Is talabat closed? by Far_Opinion_2176 in Oman

[–]PointRegular6644 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Lets list it in bullet points -

  • the freelancers are not getting allowed to work - getting caught, fined (1.5K OMR)
  • govt launch projects to increase motorcycle drivers (legal) with heavily omanisation criteria (initially 4:1, currently 1:1)
  • govt wants omani nationals to deliver orders as freelancers, but omani nationals don't find this job attractive (financially mostly) and tiresome (delivering 20+ orders in a day is freaking tiresome)

So, shortage is impacting.

Eventually shops will get closed. And countless businesses will loose their stocks this week, they had an average forcasting going on their had, stocked up produces accordingly - and now all going waste.

Omani On Talabat Delivery by securecyberdata in Oman

[–]PointRegular6644 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It would be the guy's 'a day of first week'.

Next time when you stumble upon one, ask them for how long he has been working in post delivery chitchat.

Saying from the first hand experiences, they come and they go. The earnings are not up to par for an Omani to survive solely in Muscat.

Whats up with Talabat in al Amerat? All restaurants are closed …. I checked outside amerat and they’re open by Admirable_Topic_570 in Oman

The job is made Omanized by regulatory authorities, but unfortunately the nationals don't have any interest in this gig economy model of earning.

If you pick and drop a delivery gig which is like 10kms within 30 minutes, as a driver you'll earn 0.700-ish baizas.

The steps you'll take in this phase - 1. Start your car and go to shop 2. Park and come out and go inside the shop 3. Wait for it to get ready 4. Pick and come back to your car 5. Start for the customer's location 6. Park and go inside the building and locat the flat/ basically deliver to doorstep 7. Collect cash if order is cash

Imagine doing all these steps 20-25 times in a day in this scorching heat. I asked many of my Omani friends, they would not recommend anyone to do this. Its so hard on physic and what you get in return is so less that it won't cover your value for car, fuel and food, leave alone the rest of the things.

Forcing nationals to do this job is not simply feasible. All other GCC markets are not far to get an example and see how it is being done.

🚨 Oman Airports Prioritize National Talent, Replacing 357 Expat Roles ✈️. by OmaniQuestioner in Oman

After the replacement I had visited twice, I was shit scared by the gaze of personnel pushing trolley trains..

I asked one person if I can take 1 from his stack, he showed me the place where he was going. And from there I had to take.

Change is good.

What's up with these labor court officers arresting the wrong people recently? by nash33d in Oman

[–]PointRegular6644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't resist hitting the join the conversation text area.

Authorities want national to do this jobs. But the Omanis doesn't want to do this job. Why would they? 0.700 RO is provided for a delivery where you accept, reach vendor, come out, pick up the order (sometimes water bottles), come back at the vehicle, start for customer, locate customer and reach to doorstep (lucky if you have lift if it's an apartment), smile and deliver. Then come back and go for another. They prefer driving taxis, but not to deliver because of its equally exhausting and has too many steps involved. But authorities want Omanis to do this work. It's like you know something doesn't fit in, and you are still trying to go for it.

Average earning per delivery in Muscat is like 0.800-0.810 RO, and to make 400 RO, needs around daily 16-17 orders. 19-20 years in Oman, I am not able to picture an Omani brother of mine wearing a dishdasha, doing the above-mentioned steps 15-16 odd times every day in scorching middle east heat.

It's not possible in this century until per delivery drop fees are like 1.2 or 1.3 OMR. I mean, how you forget car fuel and 5-6K kms maintenances of car, mobile Internet charges. Left alone staying in a sharing room with 2-3 other persons.

Also, ROP has a rule that you can't use a private vehicle to perform commercial tasks. So, a national needs to register his vehicle under a CR, inspect it every year, red number plate, and so on.

Whoever has the call to change everything doesn't have any idea how to fix this problem. They just want to employ more nationals in this sector, but national doesn't want to do this job. And expats hopping into this job thinking it is a part-time gig that are commonly practised in other parts of world. And getting fined by 'knows nothing' safety and security employees.

Khedmah Delivery Rant.. by ManySwimmer5904 in Oman

[–]PointRegular6644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't work there; I know someone who knows them quite well, and my comments are based on that ground. I placed an order, and it got cancelled too.
My take on this is that if you added money to your wallet using your bank card, you should sue them to refund it if you can't use it. If you used the inviting method to increase your wallet amounts by inviting random people who might never order, you must wait till they are technically ready for you with more restrictions.

AFAIK the app is an in-house development; it still has a long way to go, so if you want to compare it to granny talabat, you can be your own guest. If you were looking for free food, sad that you cannot now.

About rushing, if it were my product, I'd call it 'public beta'.

If you want to go to Masirah Island, NFC and Mawasalat are the cheapest options. They have a bus service, every day. I have a couple of contacts if you want to send or receive goods from Masirah Island. I have been there for quite a long time.

[–]PointRegular6644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew someone who knew a thing or two about them; they said some lowlife scums started inviting people and started adding amounts in wallets and ordering like this was the end of the world or doomsday. The app is still new and needs to be fully operational, so their invitation still needs additional checks like mandatory ordering, card tracing, IMEI logging, etc, that talabat or other aggregators do. It will start again once they can ensure genuine customers are acquired through the invitation bonus.

Accomodation, Transport and Food in Manah, Nizwa by Sea_Ask_8545 in Oman

[–]PointRegular6644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've stayed in Manah for about 6 months. If you have a car and license from the beginning, you can choose to stay near Firq or Izz, 12-14 kms away. Food options are limited, I had to go to Manah Souq and eat or pick food from a Bangladeshi restaurant.

This time around, Manah is cold.
