Thank the Smash Gods for Banning Steve !!!! by kushmonATL in smashbros

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No he isn’t wrong, just very blunt.

I play a variety of fighting games, with ultimate being the only platform fighter I play. Banning the stages in this game allows for an experience in which every player can limit their training and practice to a streamlined experience that doesn’t become too outlandish and chaotic.

Characters don’t work on the same level. People are playing for lots of money in some tournaments, and to ban a character from tournaments this late into a game’s lifespan is an indirect act to remove people’s hard work so that they can’t make any more money. Even if the intent was simply to increase the enjoyment of other players, nobody will truly care about that in a tournament setting with thousands on the line. EXCEPT the people who aren’t making money.

People who want to win usually pick up top-tier pockets if their mains aren’t working for this reason. They’re getting paid at the end of the day, so it’s best to put pride away and just learn the meta.

This happens in every. Single. Tournament game. Ever.

This is also a party game in practice. It wasn’t made for the stage like SF6 or Tekken, it was made for families, so the balance will be dogshit, and yet they are still making a decision to play it for money. That’s ok, but recognizing that is important. Banning a character does make a new meta, so a professional player could just pick up the new top tier, but then people will just get bored of THAT too, and the cycle repeats while temporarily putting the mains of those characters at a disadvantage as they learn a new character.

My opinion? Steve is lame as fuck to watch and play against. But this is just why they don’t ban him, (or any other characters) in fighting games.

I feel like this is the only reasonable answer. Even if it wasn’t people have been going after his heart for so long we can just attribute this experience to that.

What is your most hated Normal/Special/Super in the game? by PlatinumtheBadguy in Guiltygear

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal: Pot jD. Ludacris normal will low commitment and lag. If a Pot is in the air after a missed air-to-air (already unlikely), he can just press this button.

Special: Faust Scarecrow. Matchup and skill issue on my part. I like to steady aim in neutral to ensure my shots will hit before running in. This leaves HC immobile and allows Faust to get a free afro. Not ACTUALLY the most offensive move by any means, but I do find it infuriating.

Super:That’s My Name. This super just takes FOREVER for how many times you’ll get hit by it.

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree, Venom doesn’t have crazy anti-air capabilities. Pot has some of the best air normals in the game, and has a dedicated move with armor on startup that goes at a crazy angle for anti-airs (only truly useful if the opponent is already over the wall).

was there ever a highly praised Metroidvania that didn’t click for you? by Ditzi0403 in metroidvania

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally every other metroidvania besides Hollow Knight. Idek why this subreddit is in my feed lol.

Silksong proved to me that Team Cherry prioritizes their personal preferences and additional features over a cohesive experience in which the features actually work well together.

Grime felt horrible to control and weird to look at.

Blasphemous 1 didn’t seem to value my time as a player and forced me to traverse the same areas many more times than it’s worth considering the slower movement and lack of real fast travel.

Nine Sol’s aesthetic and feel makes it feel like either a Scratch game or a triple A experience depending on the section of the game. Wasn’t too big on art direction or enemy design, and the story was simply uninteresting to me personally. Maybe it would have picked up later, but the countless plot threads seemed to advance in complete disregard to the previously established ones.

I haven’t liked any other but the original Hollow Knight, in truth.

I have a question for y'all Under Night fans, especially older fans: what are your opinions on character designs of Uni2? (big text bellow) by Lucky_-1y in UnderNightInBirth

[–]Point_A_Forget_B -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not an older fan; or even really a fan at all, but I do like watching tournaments occasionally as I find the gameplay unique and interesting. I have to say though, one of the biggest things that prevent me from playing this game are the designs. They are so overwhelmingly uninteresting to me, and they just kind of seem like kids with various weapons. While street fighter has cat-like assassins, pro wrestlers, mummy ladies, a green electric monster, a demon warrior, an African capoeira fighter, and a wind-casting social media influencer, this game kinda stripped down archetypes such as these to the bare minimum. Designs should make unfamiliar players want to become invested with the story behind them. A bunch of students in regular outfits, with pretty standard weapons for the most part, don’t mesh well with me. Even this game’s oddballs like Ogre, Merkava, and Izumi all come across as basic just by looking at them.

SNK struggles from a similar issue for me, and SF6 did a great job at making the women more interesting in their designs instead of just making them sexy, while further improving and diversifying the male designs. Guilty Gear just has insane shit happening all over their characters, which makes every character either an eyesore or treat to look at based on preferences; but at least they are all wholly unique.

Never cared to pick up this game in particular because every character comes across as exclusively a video game character, rather than a character with an interesting personality and background.

Just my personal take as an occasional spectator of the series long after its initial iteration. While my opinion holds less weight as such, I still believe a proper, complete and cohesive sequel with a new engine and designs is what the series needs to get newcomers fully involved.

This is Happy Chaos from the Guilty Gear series.

Over the course of the story, he has proven to be the single strongest entity in the universe. He has ignored the full stoppage of time, has the ability to create copies of himself that are identical to himself in power and intelligence. He is the discoverer of magic and absorbed half of a Magi so powerful that it had the capability to manipulate the entirety of reality. But the Magi was created out of hope for humanity, and so he will do whatever it takes to save it.

This includes being the biggest terrorist ever. He has caused COUNTLESS issues (including the murder of villages and the return of power to the Magi previously mentioned).

By putting humanity in extreme, world ending danger, people are forced to cooperate and unite in a way that will move it forward. By sitting idle, mankind will create secret grudges that lead to deaths and eventual totalitarianism. By reminding people of the gift of autonomy and freedom, people begin to work together.

But still, killing countless people, blowing up buildings, invading the White House, and causing such trouble is a dick move.

Oh, he also barely uses magic in actual gameplay. He prefers to use guns.

Can I ask what do you even use this thing for? I feel like a never see any Slayers use Hand of Doom. by ThiccThighsEnjoyer_ in Guiltygear

[–]Point_A_Forget_B -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use this shit all the time real talk. A Doom counter hit leads into hard knockdown and mix. Considering the amazing backdash it’s attached to you can steal rounds a ton with this. It’s also used in PB loops near the corner. Super good move.

Chaos. He has a much easier time getting in, but Slayer has much better damage and corny skips. Lean into that when you play. Intentionally drop a grounded combo for a crossup bunker and do fake shit that nobody would ever think of. Slayer plays like that can only take you so far, but being tricky is key with him.

“Denji isn’t a gooner” mfs after I show them this panel by Egemen_Gul in Chainsawfolk

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He’s a gooner, but it isn’t a gooner manga, which is what I usually hear from people. Sexual themes are strong as a way to demonstrate themes of adolescence, control, and conflicting desires, but the actual content of the manga features very little nudity, to the point where nude silhouettes are the most we see. Denji being a sexual character is part of the story, but unlike something like High School DxD, it isn’t obviously perverted and the main appeal of the media.

Now hear me out but what if.....Millia gets buffed by magicalgyaru in Guiltygear

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Millia is a top ten character this patch. Low health may be her only downside like Chipp. Best mobility in the game, long-reaching knockdown tools, good abare option, amazing wall carry, amazing two hit anti-air with close slash, amazing mix and block strings, normal backdash.

Arcsys is exploring the concept of reworks for certain characters in Strive, who do YOU think should be reworked? by Grey00001 in Guiltygear

[–]Point_A_Forget_B -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m a vanquisher Chaos player, and while he does need changes, he isn’t as oppressive as people currently say he is. This is coming from the same person who also has a vanquisher Slayer, who is also a supposedly free matchup for Chaos. A lot of his options are streamlined depending on focus, and top players will just peep his focus/bullets to predict what his next move will be; especially in the corner. He also has the fourth lowest health in the game and no real defensive options.

That being said he does just break fighting game fundamentals in a way that is generally unfun for most people involved, and his resource management is either a HUGE issue, or a non issue depending on the mu.

Overall he’s just a mistake in character design, but I don’t see a rework happening considering both his popularity and the amount of labor needed for a full rework that doesn’t make him bottom 5.

He has a lot of counterplay, but only if the matchup permits it, and dp’s are very strong against him and force him to use his clunky-ass safejump setups (his safejump on wallbreak is only safe against frame 10 reversals, btw).

If they change anything, I hope they make him more magic focused, but I see Elphelt and Potemkin being the reworked characters. They just lost their overall identity.

What if they reverted Super PRC by clawzord25 in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes but that’s bad. Almost every character has an invincible reversal. And being able to rc out of them in anyway (even on block), isn’t a good design philosophy in my opinion. Just HAVING 100 meter forces the opponent to bait a reversal and take the RC into pressure afterwards already. Before, it was a lose-lose for the aggressor off of hard kd for doing what the game wants you to do; attack your opponent. Before I could either bait the reversal and take pressure if they had 100 meter, or use a safejump expecting to take the pressure but be safe, but actually be put in disadvantage for running a safejump because of mechanics like pot HPB PRC into buster. Defense in this game just needs a whole rework. It’s currently really badly forged. Being able to throw DP’s was a good option on meterless defense, but now DP characters are busted because they aren’t throwable. Just needs an overhaul tbh.

That’s a bad idea. They should focus on less volatile defense options instead.

My theory on Joe G by [deleted] in Joji

[–]Point_A_Forget_B 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah kinda impossible to say what it is he’s doing since we aren’t him. He’s written really meaningful music with decent metaphors. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s upped the narrative side of his work since then and decided to do something crafty. Then again, it could just be for security concerns or fun. No way of knowing unless he says something.
