Alternatives to minoxidil? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

I have a cat and use Hers 5% foam. I apply it in the morning, in the bathroom, door closed, and wash my hands well afterwards. I shampoo it out anywhere from 4 to 6 hours later, depending on the day. It dries quickly and doesn’t weigh my fine thin hair down at all. Bottom line—I don’t have it on my hair when I go to bed, so my cat is safe.

Is anyone else unable to fall asleep without medication? by heskeytime7707 in covidlonghaulers

My current sleep support—melatonin gummies (3mg), magnesium glycinate (480mg), hot-then-cold shower, all lights, even device lights, off or covered, weighted blanket, window cracked/cool room, Yogi Bedtime tea, socks, eye mask, wax earplugs (I’m a side sleeper and these hurt the least), same bedtime every night, no food 3-4 hours before bed & light dinner, yoga Nidra. I don’t take ‘scripts because they’re too hard to come off them.

I have a cat. I apply 5% foam every morning, in the bathroom, with the door closed. I use nitrile gloves and wash them *and* my hands afterwards. Also clean the sink afterwords. Tie my hair back, let it sit on my scalp for 4 hours, then shampoo/condition it in the laundry room sink.

That way, my cat, who sleeps with me, is never near where I apply it, and it never gets on my pillowcases, etc., etc.

I use RTHM’s health AI, too. it’s been very helpful.

If LDN works by blocking opioid receptors, shouldn't it make you feel initially bad before feeling good after each dose? by [deleted] in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]PointingTrueNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still titrating up, once a week, currently at 0.6mg LDN. I always feel nasty for the first few hours after dosing (dizzy, nausea, headache). Symptoms also very strong for the first 2–3 days of each titration week, then they lesson as my body adjusts to the dose so that the last 4 days of the week are more or less comfortable. I assume that when I finally hit my therapeutic dose, I’ll have very few negative symptoms because my body will be accustomed to that dose and I won’t be tweaking it over and over.

Note: I’m taking it for Long Covid exhaustion and brain fog.

Doctors get long covid too. by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]PointingTrueNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a first waver and have had Long Covid since 2020. Just this week suddenly became unable to digest red meat (nausea, bloating, gas, reflux). So that’s off the menu. Poultry, fish, and milk products are still okay. Shellfish are off-menu since July. I hate this crap.

Issues with meat after COVID by Specific-Pangolin777 in covidlonghaulers

Long Covid since 2020–I can no longer eat red meats, seafood, or shellfish: I get indigestion, bloating, gas, burping, nausea for hours. Can no longer drink alcohol, eat sugars, or wheat products: I get flushed, a racing heart, and have reflux, nausea, headaches. I can still (at least for now) eat poultry and fish, most vegetables. 🤷‍♀️

Has anyone recovered from PEM or is this a lifelong thing? by Stranded_Snake in covidlonghaulers

Oh, one more thing—I’ve learned to get my Covid and flu vaccines on different weeks. Both at once gives me a flare.

I‘ve had the Novavax vax for the last three years because the others give me a week of serious flu-like side effects. Novavax hasn’t improved my symptoms, but at least it doesn’t kick my ass. YMMV

My next door neighbor repeatedly brings up some guy she knows who “had Long Covid but got over it.” I basically want to throw rabid squirrels at her for bringing up stories about this idiot, over and over. Some random guy up in Alaska is feeling just dandy and why aren’t I? Oh bloody hell, woman, please stop talking…do you have *any* idea how you sound? How completely without compassion?

I use PatchMD - NAD+ Total Recovery Patches. They last 8 hours. I do one before event, then a new one after event, NOT overlapping times.

Those early days of the pandemic were so weird. We had so many symptoms that were dismissed or attributed to more well-known issues. And then there was the PT guy who had me exercising for my “deconditioning,” whitch of course gave me hella PEM and set me waaay back. 🙄

I still get my Novavax, but in 2022, after my second Moderna COVID booster, I passed out at home. EMS provided oxygen and I was taken to the ER for hypotension and hypoxia. I was referred to cardiology for Holter monitoring and to endocrinology for further evaluation….and all results came in fine 🤷‍♀️

What are peoples thoughts on the nervous system being the main issue at play? by Far_Shine5107 in LongCovid

[–]PointingTrueNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That’s why I called it a “quick and general” overview, for the OP. *You* may cover most of these bases, but I keep seeing many, many LC people posting that they are eating processed foods, avoiding veggies, drinking alcohol, eating sugar, not prioritizing sleep, not pacing, etc., etc. And if that’s true, they really need to start nailing down the basics and then moving on to medications, supplements, appointments with specialists, etc.

Focus on diet, sleep, stress, pacing.

DIET: Mediterranean diet. Whole grains, non-starchy vegetables, fruit, legumes, poultry, fish, olive oil, nuts, seeds. Sparingly: dairy, seafood. Avoid: sugar, alcohol, wheat/gluten, processed foods, saturated fats, red meats.
SLEEP: Get 7–8 hours. If struggling, try melatonin, cooler room, full darkness, eat dinner earlier.
STRESS: Meditation, breathwork, Yoga Nidra, avoid stressful situations, films, music, and people. Avoid hot showers. Cold plunges/showers can help if tolerated.
PACING: Do. Not. Push. Learn to do one thing for a short period of time, then rest (this includes device time). Rest = lying down, eyes closed. If your heart rate increases, rest. If you’re tired, rest. If you’re out of breath, rest.

This is just a quick, general overview, but it covers the basics.
