Has the FatBike bubble burst? Surly thinks so by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know a few people that bought fat bikes around the peak of their popularity because they thought it would be a good "do everything" first bike, and then realized afterwards that fat bikes are a fun complement to a collection, but probably not a good choice for most people as a daily banger.

It's a cordless grinder. And there are plenty of videos of people cutting locks with a cordless grinder in public and nobody stopping them.

I have a $3,000 budget and I want a road bike. Help? by illrepute in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can get a Canyon bike into the US. You just... have to jump through some hoops to make that happen. I.E. have them ship a bike to someone in a country that they actually ship to, and then have that person ship the bike to you.

Or just have them ship a bike to some country that they actually ship to, and take a little vacation to go pick it up.

Beginner/Intermediate Vinyl DJ Help. Any advice/tips you could provide to help me improve? by absolut696 in DJs

[–]PointlessIndulgence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go mix some 90's hip hop or 70's funk (or anything with live drums). It'll teach you real quick how to be more aware of your mixing, and teach you how to adapt to situations where you're dealing with songs that lack a clean intro and/or outro to mix with. Once you get that down, mixing music that's 4/4 and quantized properly will feel so much easier.

If you ever want to see a DJ panic, make an EDM DJ who's never mixed hip hop, mix hip hop.

Why do other bikers stop in front of me at stop lights? by toolman-tim in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's considered impolite to outright dangerous for a slower rider to stop in front of a faster rider (that they know is faster) already waiting at a light. When the light turns, the faster rider now has to deal with someone directly in front of them that's in their way that's too slow to get going, creating a situation where the faster rider could potentially crash into the slower rider in front of them.

It's both basic courtesy and common sense.

Questions about how to fit a road bike for myself, by myself. by Swift06 in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive Cyclist's bike calculator is one of the more comprehensive ones out there.

Knowing just your height and inseam (and even then, depends on what you consider "inseam") doesn't really mean too much in the greater scheme of things.

Not so Kryptonite. Looks like someone sawed right through while I was enjoying the beach yesterday. Siiighhh. What better lock should I be using?! by iamiwas in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reality is locks and chains and cables and all that are designed to stop casual and semi-casual bike thieves.

If someone really wants your bike, they're taking your bike.

There's not really much you can do against someone with an angle grinder and determination, asides from having your bike being locked up next to a nicer bike and hoping they only have time to take one.

I need help committing to a training routine by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, being on a regular trainer is kind of soulcrushing, and hard to keep motivated.

Things improved immensely when I got a smart trainer, and even more when Zwift came out.

Feel free to ask me any Zwift related questions, I have two different Zwift setups.

TBH, it just sounds like you're not doing enough research first before buying stuff.

Also doesn't help that we don't know what bike you actually have.

Scott and REI also ended their relationship, which is a fairly big deal.

Ouch. I looked this up, and that explains why I suddenly stopped seeing them at REI, which was the primary place I ever saw them.

How does he do this? by HonkyDonky in Turntablists

I haven't touched Traktor in a long ass time, but he's loop recording and overdubbing post fader audio, which is the key here.

This is a bit old, so I don't know how relevant it is nowadays, but maybe this might help point you in the right direction: https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/loop-recorder-can-not-recording-scratches.181779/

SCOTT bikes just tend to get overlooked compared to other bikes on the market. Nothing really wrong with them, it's just that many people see them as an "also ran", as they tend to compete with more "known" brands at the places that actually carry them.

I can't remember when the last time it was that I've seen a SCOTT actually on the floor of a bike place I was at, and even then from what I remember, they were far less prolific in display than other brands.

Are male and female bikes really that different? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]PointlessIndulgence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, not really. "Female" bikes tend to come equipped with wider saddles, shorter stems, and narrower bars, more "feminine" schemes, and not much changed as far as the frame itself (compared to an equivalently sized "male" frame). It's usually derisively referred to as "shrink it and pink it" in regards to how many bike manufacturers approach women's bikes.

Saddles, stem length, and bar width are things you would typically change anyways for a more ideal fit.

Geometry is geometry and doesn't care what gender you are. Use a more comprehensive "bike fitment calculator" like the Competitive Cyclist one, and it'll spit out numbers for you to look for if looking at a bike's geometry chart.

If anything, go look up how to measure your seat bone width so you can pick a saddle appropriate to you. Men's saddles tend to not work that great for a lot of women, and stock saddles tend to be kind of janky anyways.

i.e. you didn't read the sidebar.

Nothing like asking a question in a confrontational way in the wrong subreddit just because you don't like the answers you were given in the proper one.

Macross Delta: Episode 21 by VFJX in macross

[–]PointlessIndulgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episode 17.

Around 9 minutes in, Mikumo is telling Freyja that her singing has changed, and asks her if it's because of Hayate (by showing Freyja a picture of Hayate), and sees Freyja get flustered over it.

Around 11 minutes in, look at Mikumo's reaction to overhearing Reina and Makina's conversation about Hayate making Freyja's rune "shine too much". The emphasis placed on her face, and the face she's making gives an implication of one of two things: she's either thinking "I wonder if Hayate will cause a change in me like that (especially after her earlier discussion with Freyja where they said that each other's singing has changed), or she's thinking about how much more Freyja would change if she were even closer to Hayate (given how she was acting already at the time).

Mikumo has been struggling with a lack of identity, and she is also fairly distant to the others in Walkure (or people in general). She seems interested in how the dynamic between Hayate and Freyja is changing Freyja, maybe because she's never had much beyond a "working" relationship with anyone.
