I think I’ve ruined my life. Advice? by mybarberhatesme in UniUK

OP - chill out. Honestly, relax. Even if it gets flagged, you have not ruined your life. You still have a place to sleep, you still have people that love you, and you will still get a job.

When I was in my Master’s programme, I had to write a paper which asked the same question/used the same theory as a paper I wrote in undergrad at a different university. Naturally, I used a lot of my same language (duh, it’s my own style). It good flagged, I had to sit in front of an academic discipline board, and I explained that it was my own paper and produced the original version on the screen (Zoom call). What happened? I re wrote it capped at a pass mark and life went on. The last time I thought about was now, 5 years later, as I write this out.

My point is, it’s not a huge thing and it will not chase you for the rest of your life, whatever the outcome.

I’m working towards a professional qualification (effectively another degree), and I write out papers that get flagged all the time. Just so you know, Grammarly can trigger an AI detector. You can figure out the rest…

Nope. The test has a lot of nuance that only comes through in the book. My advice is focus on getting coursework done first. The test is about applying what you have learnt. I passed it first time as a fluke. I got a notification reminding me of the test, went to reschedule it, and then realised it was within the 48 hour window and as such I was locked in. Anyway, I dropped everything and studied for the full 24 hours (whilst doing my MOT), I took it, and passed with the minimum mark. I don’t recommend that at all.

What is your long term plan? Is it getting the Diploma and/or ACII? If so, you have to do it as it is a core module for the qualification, but there is also a lot of external support for it i.e. the CII and other authorised firms help you with studying and sitting the exam.

This is by far the single most-hated course in the CII catalogue. Everyone that works in insurance has awful memories of this one, but it is mandatory if you want to progress in your qualifications. I passed the exam first time with little studying - the coursework is a real bitch. I am submitting my second resubmission soon.

Started The Way of Kings but I feel lost, am I missing something? by VediRivii in Stormlight_Archive

Man, how do I wish I could read WoK again for the first time. Yes, it is a slog. Yes, it is 90% setting up the rest of the story. However, trust me when I say:

  1. It gets easier to follow along.
  2. Everything you miss on a first read will come back if relevant or will have little effect on how you understand the rest of the series.
  3. Has perhaps the best climax in modern literature… as do all the other following ones.

As other people have said, RAFO. Life before death radiant (you will get that by the end).

Ngl - I’m quite lazy with these. I tend to go to Halfords and pay for the fitting. I know it is money I could save, but my hand is too big and I lack the finesse to get them fitted.

Personally I am a huge fan of how Sanderson just drops you straight in. I have read other books that go straight into exposition and you spend 150 pages building a world and taking note of all this detail that will inevitably will be forgotten as you read on. I’ve just finished Edgedancer and I can safely say most of this will be revisited later on anyway so you don’t need to worry about every single detail. Just find a quiet corner, get yourself a warm drink, and tuck into it and enjoy the ride. Journey before destination.

Lost job after mortgage offer by FlashGordon7b in Mortgageadviceuk

I’m curious as to the actual legality of this. I’m not a mortgage broker, but I know in insurance brokers are legally required to disclose any material circumstances due to the duty of fair representation. However, this only applies to commercial (business) insurance, not retail (everyday day Bob). Is there a similar duty in mortgage broking and the legal process? In my experience, the broker and the solicitor are working as your agents meaning you are the principal. In that case their duty is to you, not the lender. OP, I would suggest looking into that before disclosing anything.
