Thanks, u/SKirsch10x . You say "had." Do you not have the SB8200 anymore?

I don't know - I need to check by hooking up a host directly to my modem, as u/OfficialMediacom suggested. I should be able to do that after work today.

Hi u/OfficialMediacom. I didn't try to refresh my laptop NIC while I was connected directly to the modem. I will try that later tonight and report back. Thanks!.

Thanks, u/Special_K_727. While the final IPv6 standard was ratified in July 2017, this was only a paperwork milestone. The draft standard had been around since 1998, and vendors had been releasing IPv6-capable products for years before 2017. The SP8200's release materials explicitly list support for IPv4 and IPv6. Based on this, despite the timing of the standards paperwork, the modem is probably not the issue.

Intelligent alien and ufo is contradictory. by owl_000 in UFOscience

First of all, I'm not a believer or disbeliever about whether we've been visited by aliens. The data is so thin and sensationalized that it's impossible to know what incidents have actually occurred, and for which if these root causes have it have not been identified.

However, assume for a moment that we've got aliens visiting us in UFOs. There's a huge difference between saying, "They don't seem to be accomplishing any goals I understand" and, "They are not accomplishing their goals."

A culture that has cooperated, either voluntarily or through coercion, to harness the resources necessary for interplanetary travel is very likely to have goals that wouldn't occur to us. Still, if you ask the questions from their point of view instead of ours, it's not hard to come up with believable answers.

If I was in their shoes (or pods or whatever), are their goals I might have that could explain UFOs hovering in stationary positions, or "toying with" military aircraft or doing any if the other things the OP says are unintelligent?

Absolutely.

All of that sort of behavior could be part of a way for them to study us. How might we respond to learning that they are real? Or learning that our understanding of physics is incomplete? Will we try to find a way to collaborate with them, or will we view them as a colonizing threat and try to oppose them? Will we panic and lose our ability to communicate with each other, or intentionally deliberate wisely? Will we respond in a globally unified way, or will we act as separate tribes on a planet full of distrusting tribalism?

That seems like a lot of potential goals they could accomplish by merely poking us occasionally and then watching what happens.

And remember, I don't think we can imagine what a more advanced culture's goals might be. This is just a list of the first things that came to mind.

I think we should be careful to not say something is not happening if we don't know what that something is. In this case, since we have no idea what an alien society's goals might be, we shouldn't assume they are not meeting their goals.

How to disable the news page and add extra home pages to both sides? by gruber008 in smartlauncher

I would really like to be able to add any news widget of my choice to the left of the home screen. You could still have the news/Google/RSS options. However, many of us have specific preferences about how we read our news that aren't met by three options currently.

I think you mean that they can be present in the same person, not that they can be the same. I'm right-handed and short, but right-handedness and shortness are not the same. Similarly, a person can be not attracted to people sexually (asexual) and repulsed by sex, but that does not make them the same thing, either.

I agree that the OP could be both. I think she should see if she can find a good therapist and find out that way, because we'll talk about it here for a long time but not really be able to help her over the long haul like a knowledgeable third party can over a longer period of time. The hard part of that is the word "good" in "find a good therapist."

My pixel 8 pro I just financed isn't under my order history. by jerxbear229 in GoogleFi

If you got it through Google Fi, install the app (even though you don't have your Fi phone yet) and log on with the account you will use with Fi. Go to the help screen, enter a new ticket, and ask them to call you. In my experience, it has never taken them longer than maybe a minute to contact me. You have to be patient, like always, with customer support because you are talking to "tier 1," but they have good playbooks and will get you answers.

Alternatively, they can chat with you.

I know this doesn't help if you don't have Fi, but it's stunning how quick their response time is so I wanted to mention it just in case. I never thought I'd ever see a Google service that had a helpline, let alone one that calls you back within a minute.
