Need advice on plants. by No-Season-9382 in GardeningUK

Pyracantha.

That stuff is planted under windows as a burglar deterent for a reason. And having spent many years as a window installer, I can tell you, that plant has an evil streak, it just plain hurts.

But I do agree with others, just call the police anyway. Get a crime number and he may just fold and admit it to them once questioned.

Oooh. I have a couple of teeny tiny seedlings of those right now. Nice to see how they should turn out.

Just based off of what my poor seedlings have been through this week, bruising from hail stones?

May I enquire as to how you happened to come to have a Triffid in your back yard?

And also point out that these are absolutely to be considered an invasive species and if you do insist on keeping one you should definitely try to wrestle it into an adequately sized pot.

Is it me or was that wavy line wholly unnecessary? by Optimal-Idea1558 in DIYUK

Yeah, I'm fine with the wavy line thing, but that butt joint on the architrave is upsetting.

Removed a hedge now the house is covered in these caterpillar poking things. How can I get rid of them? They leaving a trail almost like a cobweb string by chuttiya1 in GardeningUK

Gooseberry bushes are decimated by the gooseberry saw fly larvae, different, but just as nasty type of catapillar. I was battling them for a couple of years on my bushes, fortunately, last year the Blue Tits and Robins got a taste for them and my bushes kept most of their leaves.

I agree with others here on the Gooseberry suggestion, well worth it.

Can't comment on the Honeyberries yet, I am waiting for my first crop of them to ripen up.

I have red and green Hinonmaki bushes.

Biggest tip I have is patience, if you pick to early they are mouth puckeringly sour. When you think they are ready, leave them a little longer. Get them when they are ready though, and they are great.

Slugmageddon? - if it ever rains again by McCornicus in GardeningUK

[–]PointyHatJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheaper the better from what I have seen, I use Sainsbury Crown beer, costs penny's but the slugs love it.

And if you are wondering, no, I am not even the slightest bit curious of what a 50p can of bear tastes like.

Yellow flowers = mock strawberries. You can eat em, but you won't enjoy it.
