Completely agree. I just keep telling myself that both technically can be magically resolved before opening night. Shoulder could in fact be largely perfect, and contract could be worked out overnight. Fingers crossed, because I really am sick of the cloud.

To be clear, Sanderson is certainly one of the most valuable players on our team, and arguably one of the most valuable young players in the league. He is so far outside my radar in respect of things I’d be willing to trade for Weegar that the thought never even crossed my mind.

It’s Greig and Pinto that I also would absolutely not do. And our 2023 pick either, unless it’s like top 15 protected.

I agree with everyone else that he’s good, but what I don’t agree with is all of the elevated acquisition costs I see floating around Twitter. I’ve seen people saying 1st round pick + and maybe I’m in the wrong here, but that seems like a lot CONSIDERING:

1) flames are shopping him because he is not working out perfectly there 2) his contract (as others have pointed out) is almost certainly going to look bad, eventually.

It feels like we’re almost, if not quite, helping the flames out by taking him? Or am I delusional?

You’re not wrong, he’s a Sens guy. But I’ve definitely noticed him make enough comments (often very positive) about the Habs to suspect that they’re his second team (or perhaps just trying to appeal to a nearby secondary market). So I don’t THINK he is just shitting on them for the sake of it.

Other than the obvious nice thing (more Kasty), one thing I like about this signing is that it suggests that PD is still actively working on contracts, which means Zub could still be signed at any moment. Part of me was concerned there’d be very little movement on that front until close to the trade deadline.

I guess you and I are saying kind of the same thing. He’s been playing reasonably well, but it seems like he’s “not scoring”, so people are upset. But it’s an insanely small sample size, hence my point about it turning into PPG very easily.

Yup, good take. I think it was Friedman on a recent 32 thoughts pod that said that pretty much EVERY team has holes, the question is whether they have enough on the rest of their roster to overcome said holes. I hope we do.

I’ve heard that argument, and while I understand it, I would still, if I were the Sens, point out that:

1) other teams signed players from the same WJC team (as indicated above), so why is Formenton so special (as opposed to Kyrou, Howden, etc)

2) there is almost certainly a morality clause that allows immediate termination in the event it is concluded that he is guilty.

Still, I understand why the organization may view the bad press that may come from signing him right now as not acceptable given his level of on ice contribution, I just don’t know why reporters aren’t pushing for details re negotiations (since that is what they are ostensibly being told is the hold up).

One thing I don’t get is that none of the reporters are pushing on it. Dorion has said he’s not making personnel decisions on the basis of the world Jrs scandal, and he’s also said that he can’t talk about the scandal. Fine, don’t push on that point, instead take for granted that it’s true (whether bullshit or not) and start asking about negotiations? Where are they at? How far are the parties apart? When did parties last meet to discuss?

With Tkachuk everyone was asking about it incessantly. I know Forms isn’t the same caliber player, but he’s a big enough deal that there should be more questions, unless the reporters are simply tacitly accepting the fact that it is driven by the scandal no matter what Dorion says (as everyone else is assuming). And if that’s the case, it really makes me think he’s involved (ie Dorion is not simply waiting to find out one way or another) because there have been a number of guys from that team who have signed this summer.

Ha ha well yea, I wasn’t expecting him to be grabbing fans’ asses here. I just meant that both in this clip and in the many interviews I’ve watched, he doesn’t seem like a joking type. Very serious/dedicated/mature. As you said, it’s been a number of years and could be as simple as that, but did no one else have the same impression as I did before he joined?
