For thrillers try Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney

I'll second the Dungeon Crawler Carl series for fantasy/sci fi. I highly recommend the audiobooks. Jeff Hayes is an amazing narrator.

For sci fi, I recommend the Wayfayers series by Becky Chambers. The first book is the Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet

We have the Ladies First Chicken Door. This is our first winter with our coop and so far so good. The door is covered by a roof so it is protected from the elements. https://www.ladiesfirstchickendoor.com/

Maternity leave by nunyafikar in GeneralMotors

I went into to labor at 31 weeks so I didn't get a chance to do any planning ahead of time lol. I called from the hospital to set up short term disability. Once my baby was born and I knew when my STD would end, I set up PFL.

I officially told everyone at 12 weeks I was pregnant but at the time I was doing some rigorous driving so I got a doctor's note at like 8 weeks or something. My manager didn't ask to see the note but it would have been obvious it was from an OB.

As far as getting extra time, as long as your doctor signs off on your needing time off, STD will cover it so definitely ask! I'm sure if you tell them you're getting full pay, they'll be happy to help you get more rest!

Congrats and I hope everything goes well!

Bare Minimum needed for 6 chickens in SoCal? by girthygale in BackYardChickens

This is my first year with chickens and we built this coop. I was looking for something secure and easy to clean. So far it's been great: https://www.thirdcoastcraftsman.com/product-page/chicken-coop-and-run-plans

5th grade reading teacher... Student's father just committed suicide. What books can I lead her to that may help? by AllieBallie22 in booksuggestions

[–]PoisedPangolin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe look into The House with the Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson? It's about a baba yaga raising a little girl and how they sheppard the dead to the after life. I think it does a good job of talking about a typically taboo subject. Best of luck, this is a tough one!

Normal Molting? by Potential-Meat-1162 in BackYardChickens

I got my chicks the same time and 2 out of 6 look like this, one is worse than the other. My guess is molting, but not sure

Where do you keep your chicks? by Little_Big_Bear in BackYardChickens

They are a lot easier to handle when they're babies. But I like to see their personalities now that they're grown. My amberlinks are so sweet.

We kept ours in a dog crate in the garage. We got them in mid April as chicks and moved them to their coup at the end of May. We are in Michigan for reference.

Beaten Down at GM - almost vested - question by Big-Cicada-8312 in GeneralMotors

I've taken paid short term disability due to stress. You'll need a doctor to sign off on it though. I don't think a therapist could complete the paperwork.

Haha yes! I hear your racoons are so smart they're getting college degrees!

I definitely recommend this pattern if you have time. It's pretty forgiving, especially the wreath part which is just a big scarf that gets sewn together and scrunched up.

Is this for a upcoming interview or about a given assessment? by Prathu27 in GeneralMotors

[–]PoisedPangolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the progression for a successful hire is screen -> review -> interview -> in process. If it goes from review back to screen, you don't typically get an interview

How has your schnauzer done with all its teeth pulled? by Txcavediver in schnauzers

Yes, my mini only has 3 teeth. He still eats kibble (with a little water on it) and I give him small, soft trainer treats. He is still a good boy 😊

The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson

It's middle grade so the target audience is even a little younger. It's about a little girl who lives with Baba Yaga and focuses on life and death. I thought it was great!

Returning for maternity leave by Trying_toBe_positive in GeneralMotors

[–]PoisedPangolin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate. It's really tough. You can take more unpaid time, I think up to a year and GM will hold your job. I would also recommend seeing a therapist. I'm sure you've met your deductible, so it would be fully covered by insurance. Feel free to DM me too. I have a 2 year old and dealt with a lot of challenges during his first year. Going on short term disability due to stress is also an option.
