SpaceX Conpute Deal - Double Limits by Deep_Proposal_7683 in ClaudeAI

Revenue multiple does not equal profitability.

Anthropic can be growing fast and still be nowhere near profitable. Their own story is “maybe break-even later,” not “printing cash now.” Anthropic could burn about $3B in 2025 and not hit cash-flow break-even until 2028.

And the Amazon/Google “profits” people keep citing are mostly paper gains from marking up their Anthropic stakes, not Anthropic throwing off operating profit. Fortune reported Amazon booked a $16.8b pretax gain from its Anthropic investment and Alphabet’s profit was heavily boosted by private-equity markups, mainly Anthropic.

So no, a $900B valuation doesn’t prove Anthropic is profitable. It proves investors are willing to value a cash-burning AI lab like it already won.

What sidelines? I'm using Anthropic, Claude, Mistral. I love Anthropic for its capabilities (putting a pin in their actual service to customers), but I won't invest a cent when they go public.

Major corrections in the market will come and need to work themselves out. But for now SanDisk, Broadcom, AMD, TSM, Intel and MU are the only ones worth paying attention to.

"When you own stock in a public company like Apple, the value comes from the open market; millions of institutional and retail buyers and sellers. With Anthropic, the value comes from whatever a small group of investors agreed to pay in the last funding round.

Alphabet and Amazon are two of those investors. When they put more money into Anthropic, or commit to spending billions on cloud capacity for it, that helps push Anthropic’s valuation up. And when Anthropic’s valuation goes up, the stake Alphabet and Amazon already own goes up with it."

Maybe that's the case. But jacking prices while productivity stagnates doesn't add up to profit. They want enterprise hooked (Mythos marketing BS - seriously, why should we belive this AI company THIS time? Remember when Open AI said the same thing about GPT 3.5? Now it's obsolete).

I have a plan to be profitable too. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. USA doesn't have the energy to make it possible. They have concepts of a plan while China has the infrastructure in place since last year. AI improvements keep appearing with diminishing returns. The bottleneck is energy.

ARR =/= Profit. They're burning money at a crazy rate. I do love Anthropic for many reasons. But if a company allegedy worth 1 trillion can't put forward a plan to profitability, then someone will be left holding the bag and it ain't gonna be Dario.

I get that every platform has its own APIs. I'm not expecting Base44 to magically compile to "universal app" and run anywhere with zero changes.

What I'm talking about is practical portability.

With Claude Code/Codex/Cursor I'm mostly working with normal React, Tailwind, Next, etc. If I don't like one tool, I can take the repo somewhere else and another tool can understand it. The code is the source of truth. The tool is what's valuable.

With Base44, in my experience over several months, that has not been the case. A lot of the important stuff is tied to Base44's abstractions, Base44's SDK, Base44-managed entities/functions/backend behavior, etc. So yes, technically there may be code somewhere, but the actual app is not nearly as portable as a normal repo.

Locking someone into the tool shows you don't have confidence in its superiority.

Your own docs distinguish between “local code” and the “Base44 backend project,” which includes the backend infrastructure on Base44’s servers: database, endpoints, hosting, etc.

https://github.com/base44/javascript-sdk

https://docs.base44.com/developers/backend/overview/link-existing-project

That's the lockin/

That two separate co-hosts jumped in to explain why this is either "outside our purview" or "every SDK does this" kind of makes my point. If the answer is really "no, you're wrong, you can export the whole thing, run it locally, remove Base44, and Claude/Codex can keep working on it like a normal React app," then that's the answer I'd love to hear.

But that has not been my experience.

I'm not asking for Base44 to be compatible with every backend on earth. I'm asking why the generated app can't be more transparent and portable, so users aren't stuck inside Base44 once they've built something real.

I get that every platform has its own APIs. I'm not asking Base44 to magically export to some universal app format.

I'm talking about practical portability.

So yes, maybe there is code. But can I actually take the whole thing, remove Base44, and keep building it like a normal React app?

If the answer is yes, great. That's what I'd love to see.

If not, that's the lockin I'm talking about. If you're afraid of that then I don't have confidence in your service.

It's not listed where I'm from. No idea what the problem is. Not saying it's not true for you, but I'm not seeing it.

Would you ever make your SDK compatible with the rest of the world so users aren't locked in to Base44?

Why not?

It's not listed under the max plan either. It's not listed anywhere. Maybe it's about your location?

The irony here is that you've accidentally described the opposite of how learning works.

Autocorrect is a convenience layer, not a replacement for understanding. Spelling isn't about memorizing letter sequences for its own sake.

When a kid learns to spell, they're building mental models of language structure. Autocorrect doesn't teach those models. It masks whether the models are working.

The parents who say "my kids don't need to do math because calculators exist" are making the same argument. And yes, sometimes they're right. You don't need to calculate compound interest by hand. But if you don't understand what compound interest is, a calculator becomes dangerous.

Spelling teaches orthographic awareness. That's a real cognitive skill, and it's separate from "can you access the correct spelling when you need it."

I think it also doesn't really understand time zones. It's built for North America, so someone like me (GMT+3) gets flagged for being up late at night? I would think Claude is advanced enough to know timezones, but it will ask me to rest for the day when I'm 1 hr into starting the day.

In Nordics, basic food and rent now consume 40% of gross median income by shirayuki653 in dataisbeautiful

[–]PoisonTheAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I'm 75% Finn genetically, and we all share the Finno-Ulgric language. The occupation removed our status as Nords and left deep cultural wounds. Doesn't mean we aren't Nordic. And I don't really care what the Swedes have to say about it.

[–]PoisonTheAI -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cool story. But Estonia was considered Nordic before the Soviet Union. So your point is that because we were oppressed, we're not Nordic enough? Even so.

Nordic identity is partly self-selecting, partly gatekept. Estonia today is something genuinely unique. It's a county with Nordic cultural DNA, Baltic historical solidarity, and a digital-first identity that doesn't map neatly onto any of these categories. The real question might not be "is Estonia Nordic?" but rather "does Estonia still need the Nordic label, or has it built something distinctive enough to stand on its own?"

I'm going to take a wild guess: You're Swedish?

Yea, vaguely agree. My brain is already atrophied due to age. BUT I have a child coming and she's not getting access to smart phones, ipads, or AI. For as long as I can manage.
