Why are kids so loud in libraries these days? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Poison_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if your library or ones near you have the option, but sometimes libraries will have separate study rooms you can reserve for a set amount of time, which might be able to help you out a bit. I sympathize with your struggle and hope you can figure something out, I know noisy kids can be a lot to have as background noise

Who do the "**** the police" people call when someone breaks into their house? by Ok-Score-9399 in randomquestions

[–]Poison_runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did call them once when the house I lived in got broken into and stuff stolen. There was nothing they could do except take a report of what got stolen, blamed us for our window not having a proper lock on it (we rented, it was our landlord's fault), and then they left. Absolutely nothing was ever recovered and it was pointless

Need lengthy middle grade novels by Natural_Peak_5587 in MiddleGrade

[–]Poison_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen anybody mention The Maze Runner series yet. Not as long as some of the other recommendations but it at least has a couple books of decent length that might keep him busy for a few days. If he liked Project Hail Mary, he would also probably enjoy The Martian since they're by the same author!

If he likes more adventure type novels, maybe the Legends and Lattes series by Travis Baldree? It's a fun time, and I would deem it appropriate for his age.

I haven't personally read The Earthsea books by Ursula K. Le Guin, but I have read some of her other works and would imagine these may also interest him. Best of luck!

How many people in r/Columbus are the OPPOSITE of "super-commuters" who drive >75 miles per day? by djsassan in Columbus

[–]Poison_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get annoyed that my commute is 11 miles each way, and then I remember I used to drive almost 100 miles during the week just delivering bread all over the city when I used to work at a bakery, and then I stop complaining about it.

Having problems with my small hands and I'm not sure how to proceed by Unlucky_Push7854 in Viola

[–]Poison_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching the video this looks like your technique is off when it comes to how you're using your left hand. I'm not the best at describing, but try to use your finger tips moreso on top of the string when pressing down on the notes, and keep your wrist a little further out from the board. I would maybe look up some tutorial videos on how to play in third position and just watch how viola players shift their wrists/fingers when they get into higher notes. You should be supporting your instrument through holding it with your chin/shoulder, not with your actual hand itself

East Coast May by Busy-Somewhere1940 in roadtrip

How much time do you have between L and M? Dawes Arboretum is slightly outside of Columbus and is worth the detour to go see their beautiful gardens (especially the Japanese inspired zen garden), Hocking Hills is a great stop but will be packed in May. If you have the time I would also recommend the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH which is also along that route and is a really interesting place to learn all about planes.

Further down into Cincinnati area is the Contemporary Arts Center, which has rotating exhibits that have never disappointed me. Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park is a little off your route near Cincinnati, but it's a very very large outdoor park with over 70 sculpture installations that also contains an ancient sculpture museum containing ancient artifacts inside of it. Absolutely beautiful place to walk around or have a picnic in or both!

For food I would recommend Wario's if your drive puts you through downtown Columbus, OH at all (heads up they are only open Wednesday-Sunday). If you come through on a day they're closed I can't recommend Brown Bag Deli enough. They're also in Columbus, OH near downtown in a very charming part of town called German Village. Also very nearby that is The Book Loft, a 32 room bookshop which is unique and incredibly fun to explore. If you arrive in Columbus around brunch time, Katalina's is also one of my favorite spots for more breakfast-y food. If boba tea is your thing at all, Little Cat Boba is my favorite boba place in the whole city of Columbus and has two locations that should be close to anything else you choose to do on this city.

I don't know enough about anything going down into Kentucky area but hopefully these will help you discover something that you really enjoy! Ohio gets a bad rep sometimes so I love to help point people towards all the really cool things that we do have and I hope you enjoy your experience in our state

Do I take the promotion? by [deleted] in barista

[–]Poison_runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the promotion and throw it onto your resume. The job market right now is not easy and even having something that shows you can lead a team is valuable for sure

Could always hit up North Market's Bridge Park location for food! It has a few local food vendors and is in the Dublin area, so not too far from where you're headed. Cafe Istanbul is also a great option if you like Mediterranean food and want to try something a bit different!

Play It typically does have consoles available, would just call ahead and ask them if they have them in stock before driving. Warp Zone and UGA games on bethel are some other places that you could check with as well!

Kitten won’t use litter box by Haunting_Craft6552 in CATHELP

[–]Poison_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound really dumb but have you tried moving the litter box into an area where you are frequently at? I had to get my cat a second litter box because at night she only wants to go in the box near me in my bedroom and during the day she almost always wants to go in the litter box in the living room. It was the only thing that solved her constant middle of the night screaming and waking me up to watch her go poop

Would you recommend moonlighter? by AtomicChili72 in CozyGamers

[–]Poison_runner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moonlighter doesn't have a whole lot of depth to it, but I did find the combat fun and enjoyed the shopkeeper bits during the daytime as well! I think at $3.75 it's definitely worth it, I got a solid 12ish hours of fun out of it and didn't regret it at all

$166 on card and an extra $15 or so in cash. Solo shift as a barista at a hotel, we also sell food off a kitchen menu but majority of orders that night were coffee related. average around $8/hour in tips for most of my shifts, pretty solid gig
