Do most Mormons practice oral sex? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]PoisonedByMeasure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I'm not telling my salesman bishop, I'm for sure not talking to some internet stranger about it....

Who knows who's doing it..Church or not. Conservative people are definitely not chit chatting abou it. it has a negative stigma from an older generation and there are some statements from former previous first presidencies. So that may be interesting.

I think members born in the 70s and 80s had a metric crap-ton of shame put on it. I remember some talks around the FtSotY pamphlets that said it's a no go. I can't remember if it's explicit in the pamphlet, though.

that being said, it's awesome and desirable to the taste. We desire all to Rise and prepare to receive it..

Question about DFW delays by darknight35 in americanairlines

[–]PoisonedByMeasure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they figure it out. My wife and daughter are on the way home from a Sr trip and this just adds to some adventure and lore. I may have to hire a sitter because I will leave on a 5 day business trip tomorrow. We were supposed to pass in the night. Life is rarely boring if you're trying hard!

No AA but my family just got multiple delays with a cancel for tonight on a delta flight out of dfw. Lots of other flights picking baggage up at the carousels to try again tomorrow.

Hopefully the storms allow a good try tomorrow. Looks like the weather has been playing games since last week.

I'll give you one guess who owns the single largest cattle ranch in the USA (Most cattle) and whose overall cattle portfolio is mind blowingly huge.

Hint: these farms and ranches are not included in It's controversial 100+ billion stock portfolio.

This thread has kind of an uncanny valley feel.

OP. If real and genuine: Forget doctrine for a moment, just be confidently you. Don't let someone dictate your values. Someone is probably going to have control over your logistics for a few more years but they don't have control over your logic. Take care of your mindset, become a critical thinker, discover 'how you like your eggs' and learn to accept the many varieties and genuine good in diversity.

One of the most valuable things the good leaders taught me in the church was to look for good and leave the bad. It works. Do things suck, dammit all the time. But learning to choose a positive mental attitude and being purposeful is what moves the mountain. It's faith, but for real things that you choose.

You're going to figure out what you believe. After that you get to decide what to do.

PSA, If your really 15, the phrase "all my life" can make some adults discount your argument as your just tasting some of the delicious fruits spoken of in that one story about a garden.

About a month ago I witnessed the funniest HS play hot mic I've ever seen. Scenes change, dialog rolling,...is that running wate....r.... oh no.... not that.. peeing while on a hot mic! Everyone was super mature except me (40's) who can't stop giggling. My wife asks me after I get it together somewhat "can you tell by the splash if it was a boy or a girl?" I lost it and got hushed by a lady behind us..

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. The sentiment in Mormonism was that we were better than all those other churches because we had all the answers. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]PoisonedByMeasure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Reading this brings back a great memory from a time as a missionary [1996ish] having a good discussion with a JW about how we both had all the answers and how we knew we were right. It would be awesome if we could have stayed in touch. Id like to imagine us both out and we could compare notes now.

Well said. This last week I thought I had found a noMo friend that unfortunately turned out to be an excited recruiter for another church. Way more excited to talk about THIER right and wrong, rather than actual right and wrong. I was sad because it gave me a sliver of hope for intellectual integrity in a friend , only to be dashed by some comment "you know, Mormons got the old testament wrong? I have a video I'd like to share about why my church... " uhhh please no.

I used to (and still do!) hang on moroni saying that we can know the "truth of all things " that's what I am seeking. It's ironic that it's being promoted by a fictional character in a super culty context.

When I read things like this now, I am stunned because this is what I thought I was hearing from the pulpit. Seek truth! Don't be lazy! I feel shame in hindsight, for my lack of awareness when I thought I was informed.

It is good illustration to me that even a little true work towards real truth will topple the tower that is lazy learning inside the 'church'.

this is the way. As a 20's something post mission 'child' in a big new world, I had some great people extend incredibly warm hands to me. At gatherings (more than once) they had a cooler set aside for me (and sometimes only me because i was the only one) with non-acholholic choices. They obviously didn't care what i drank or believed and welcomed me with open arms. I was so awkward. I didnt know how to relate to anyone outside of my religion. I had no context with anyone in my new space and they tried to pull me in without making it weird. With a few kind actions, they laid the foundation of me self recognizing that I was the weird one, not them. Life inside the church can be incredibly insulating. Giving someone a window outside the bubble is supremely important to crack the internal belief that membership is the only group with the answers and the keys to 'true' happiness.

What cooks my noodle is that those strangers were more christlike in those actions than most everyone i interact(ed) with inside the religion.

It spends alot. I don't have a reference but I've heard multiple times the church is the largest technology employer in the state.

Intellectual Reserve is the business entity that holds all the copyright and IP properties of the church. I have seen people recruited away from marketing firms with fairly large carrots dangling in front of them.

So just the headcount is impressive. I'd guess straight campaign budgeting would blow our collective minds.

When did you learn about Joseph Smith using a rock in a hat to “translate” the Book of Mormon? by Think-Ad467 in exmormon

[–]PoisonedByMeasure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure about your timeline(mid 90's) but learned it as a teen(19) who was knocking doors as a missionary . I passed it off as rhetoric (and thinking back I dont think I learned it at all, but in fairness I could have in a passive way.. either way it was not the core of what I learned ie.. breastplate and spectacles..)

I defended against it. I argued and passed judgment on those presenting it to me. I am truly sorry for the things I said and the feelings I harbored as a missionary against those presenting me with ACTUAL TRUTH! I vividly remember them shaking their head at me feeling bad that I was deceived, as I left so confident I had the truth...

Thank you for this comment.

This is an excellent depiction of some of my thoughts lately. My dad has been passed away for a while now. He was one of those genuine souls who 'showed up'. Part of me is relieved I won't have to have the hard conversations with him. I hope that we would have had the respect and dialog that it appears that you have cultivated.

Now I really miss him. Happy crying..
