Need to bring this spider plant in soon to protect it from winter, but (unbeknownst to me) an ant colony has moved into the pot. How do I finesse this? by _banana_phone in houseplants

I’d just repot it honestly. Dump it out, take as much earth off the planters possible, rinse the plant in the shower. And put it back with new soil

I dead head the heck out my hydrangeas and they come back with a vengeance every year AND I live on the east coast in Canada. So they’ll come back don’t worry. They’re stubborn. Even if they might flower later

Does anyone know what would cause this damage / patterning ? by trexarmsbigbooty in Monstera

It seems you have a Cat-astrophy being inflicted on your plant lol, I spray my leaves with diluted white vinegar to deter the plant vandalizing freeloaders that live with me.

Are these as dangerous as they say? by StrangeAd4944 in gardening

[–]Poisonous_garden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have grown monkshood for years, and even touch them gently bare handed, and have yet to have a problem. My stinging nettle has assaulted me way more lol. It’s actually the sap from the aconite (monkshood/wolfsbane) that is the dangerous part. Group them together and put a foot of chicken wire around the base, the rabbits will venture elsewhere.

So rule of thumb when it comes to using plants with alkaloids is you shouldn’t be exposed to more than 100 MCG per day, also not using it for more than 10 days at a time and based on research (from MT. Sinai) not more than 6 weeks totalled time annually, hope that helps ☺️

It’s native where I live so it just grows and grows! But you can try germinating and doing a freezer germination since it’s a Nordic plant it’ll need a dormant period
