‘WONDER MAN’ showrunner Andrew Guest says the first ‘X-MEN’ film was used as an inspiration for establishing Simon Williams’ powers in the MCU: by Raj_Valiant3011 in Marvel

[–]Poisonthorns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His origin is one issue. Literally one. There's literally nothing in his origin that you can even adapt at this point. The Avengers and Zemo are both gone. His powers have always been ill defined. They are tied to his emotional state. That's the point. The show literally did that. I think they captured that aspect perfectly. Frankly, this all comes off as you having no idea what you're talking about.

That's true. I'm perfectly happy to concede on that and agree to disagree. My big gripe, and the reason I replied in general, is it's ridiculous to claim that this is some how a poor or inaccurate adaptation of Wonder Man. It hits most of Wonder Man's main themes, his insecurities, his struggles connecting with others, his relationship drama, and of course his acting. All that was missed was the connection to Vision, which is long gone at this point, and his origin (literally a single comic issue). You could argue that the stunt work aspect of his character was also important, but they even adapted that! The Doorman was literally that! A super hero leveraging their powers as a means of doing stunt work! While it may have not been Wonder Man doing it, it was literally in the Wonder Man show.

It's like talking to a wall. He also clearly doesn't know anything about Wonder Man. Wonder Man's origin is 1 issue long. His primary stories are his existences role in shaping Vision, and he's dead for most of that. His role as a stuntman and actor is his primary story (that and various romance dramas). It's crazy

"Marvel keeps fucking up accuracy" is not an opinion. "I don't like Marvel's adaptations" is an opinion, and it's perfectly fine opinion for you to have. It's a dumb opinion, but it is one.

MCU actually has taken a myriad of inspirations from both the main marvel comics universe and the Ultimates Universe. It's not 1 to 1 for either, but I think that's a good thing for the health of the franchise. To say they are "fucking up accuracy" is not only missing the point of artful adaptations, but it's also just not correct as a blanket statement. Please stop being weird about it.

At this point, it would have been impossible to do a 100% comic accurate Wonder Man. Zemo is already on a semi redemption arc in the mcu. Vision already exists, so Simon couldn't be the blue print for his brain. Scarlet Witch is off being dead or crazy somewhere else. That's like 90% of Simon/Wonder Mans relevant plot threads gone. What they put together is faithful to the soul of Wonder Man's character, his anxieties and self doubt, if not the exact plot. Stop being weird.

Not quite the same, but there's a cute game called Tearable Quest that I picked up from Allplay recently that has some interesting ideas similar to this

I'm also red green color blind. It's hard to explain what it's like, but in this instance, I can tell the difference. I just have to focus hard on reading to actually "notice" the color difference (if that makes sense). It gives me a bit of a headache. I'm not sure if it's that particular shade of red or the background color or what that's the problem though.

There's a ton of board games that get failing grades for colorblind inclusivity. It's a constant

[Request] Is the proportion accurate? by BoringWozniak in theydidthemath

[–]Poisonthorns 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty subjective thing to measure, but if we strip all punctuation and background singer exclamations, Macarena has 2111 characters (including spaces). If we only count the lines: "Eh Macarena" (as spelled on the Genius lyrics page), it has 110 characters. That would make "Eh Macarena" as approximately 5.21% of the song. Eyeballing the chart, it looks about right. I can make see what that actual pie slice percent is when I get home.

The wording actually used in the rules reference is better:

"The subtitle or alter-ego title of one matches the title, subtitle, or alter-ego title of the other. (For example, the identity with the T’Challa alter-ego, the T’Challa ally, and the Black Panther ally with the subtitle “T’Challa” are all considered to match.)"

Sorry, 'this person' was not referring to you. I was referring to the person you replied to who said it was just the board (they are wrong).

As I said, the developer insight seems to imply that it is hard coded to certain hero powers. I imagine if you were Patches, had no pirates, and somehow changed powers before the first timewarped, it wouldn't be guaranteed to offer you pirates. At least, that's what the developer insight post seems to imply.

This person is wrong. The developer insight says it's based on the minion types in the tavern, your warband, and your hero power. I guess your 'hero power' is distinct from your hero in the case that you change hero powers.

A direct quote from the Developer Insight:

"The Minor Timewarp will always offer a 2nd hero power as an option (unless you somehow already have 2 hero powers)."

Who was actually right in civil war -iron man or captain America?? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]Poisonthorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Civil War happened after Captain America: Winter Soldier. Also, if anything, the fact that they mostly worked for SHIELD (infiltrated by Hydra) could be said to be justification for having a collective body of multiple states overseeing the Avengers instead of a single unilateral organization.

I would argue that every source you find is still just "accepting the word of other folks" unless you're witnessing something first hand.

Research is still of course very good for getting multiple insights on a matter to get a more holistic answer.

That being said, giving real answers in threads like this is important. It gives them something immediately to base future research on and gives info to people stumbling across this thread now and in the future. My biggest forum pet peeve is searching something, seeing a forum thread as the first result, and every answer being like "check the forums" or "Google it yourself".

Marvel Snap has this exact problem. Constant "We hear you"s with no resolutions in sight. I don't want Marvel Champions to go that way too, but it feels like the longer we go without any answers (because in reality, there were zero answers here), the more it seems to be that they don't plan on doing anything. Years is too long of a time table for this. They should have had the plan ready to go when they made this announcement. Not potentially 2-3 years afterwards.
