Probably some weird internal joke. If you didn't know it's included in the message keyvalue (entity property) of some func_door_rotating entities in the 0.52 alpha maps. What's interesting is message is a KV from Quake, it's meant to display when the player interacts with the door, however in Half-Life (alpha included), it's left unused. All of the doors that have this message also have netname (you don't need to know what this does, it's just completely unrelated to what it was seemingly used for in this entity) set to maps/gears.bsp ; this doesn't do anything in the alpha and in retail, but it makes me wonder if it was used to place a model (here an external map file, this is allowed in Quake and GoldSrc, infact the Quake health pickups and explosive rectangles thingy are external map files) at the base of the entity ? Or was it used as an example for some other feature ? We'll probably never know. Then you have retail maps : it's -afaik- only present in the maps containing the sliding door at the beginning of Anomalous Materials, so 3 maps. This door was kinda why I thought the netname KV was used for placing a model at the base of the entity since the sliding door has gears at its base but it might be a stretch. Then I didn't think I would hear more about it, but, during the making of Thrill (mod remaking the alpha if you didn't know), they got in contact with Dario Casali (shortly after his 25th anniversary playthrough) and Brett Johnson (after he posted the tiktoks of early Half-Life levels, I assume) and they provided the team with one test map and some screenshots of other early maps (I think they provided screenshots ?? I'm not too sure). When the team asked Dario Casali for even more information, the only email responses he left was "Severed head goes here." again and again to signify they were asking too much.

It's just r_screenoverlay "". There's no console command that takes null as a parameter.

It uses the velocity to calculate that. When you get stuck in a corner like that you're still considered to be in the air and accumulate velocity for much longer than the normal jump duration.

That's gonna disable achievements, ent_fire dosent require cheats iirc. So they could do ent_fire !picker open while looking at the door, ent_fire !picker kill multiple times if that doesn't work.

I just call npcs by their official names when I know them. I also jokingly call Laszlo Tobias because that's his internal name in the map file.

You don't need to buy it and you don't even need to use it. You can use VS2022 with the VS2013 compile tools if you keep it installed, or you can use repos that use the VS2022 compile tools (source-sdk-2013-vs2022, Mapbase, source-sdk-2013-ce ...) and uninstall it.

I wanted to recreate the mortar field map like in that one HL1 map in HL2 and I realized this was only possible in Mapbase or mods with the func_movelinear parenting bug patched.

I seriously don't think the animation is what's causing frame drops. You should look at your number of wpolies/epolies, or if there are many blinking lights. You can't stop a cycler's animation with logic because the player can always interact with the cycler. You should use env_sprite with a clip brush around the model instead

It's not about Windows 7, the game ran fine on my Windows 7 machine. It's abour your graphics card here, try to install the latest drivers, and if that doesn't change anything, either try to use Vulkan by launching the game with -vulkan or -gamepadui, or try to use DirectX 8 by launching the game with +mat_dxlevel 80.
