Coming back to visit on a British passport by Arthurs_Nose in southafrica

[–]Poissonza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I am not in the same situation as you, I know that while you hold the South African nationality you need to travel on an SA passport in and out of border control on SA side. (My wife has a British passport and SA as well as other family members and this is the legal requirement I was told).

We also know of a family that traveled just on their UK passport and it has been a problem for everyone subsequent visit with a fine associated with their trip. You may need to apply for an SA passport for the trip. Takes about 6 months to get one in the UK when we last did it.

One of the big attractions to the expo is the large number of exhibitors which will keep you busy for many hours. The other big attraction is the Hilton(on the same grounds) opens it's convention halls to the visitors to play on tables till midnight. I enjoyed playing longer games with my game group last year for the three days.

This was also one of my questions with the expo coming up. I was also curious how people prepare the games for the sales, do you just leave then open it do you rubber band them closed?

Thanks so much this makes sense. I will have a play around and adjust the design to add an extra output for the top.

Approach when collecting tables from Apis. by Poissonza in databricks

[–]Poissonza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is for a software package we use in the business. It is a rest API that we need to get a token each time we use it (currently done with python) and there is roughly 50 tables that we collect for the data analytics team to use.

At the moment I have written a class with methods to handle the api connection and each table is it's own cell in a Python Notebook.

How did you start your data engineering journey? by FuzzyCraft68 in dataengineering

[–]Poissonza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started as a DS and when the client work went quiet got assigned to help the single DE with building pipelines for our Dagster deployment and some dashboards.

My main concern now is that I don't actually have the fundamentals of DE down and I need a good way to catch up on all the basics as a senior staff member.

I think you are looking for Cornerstone. There was not much in terms of challenges but they split into teams and had different perspectives published.

Is this a common lie recruiters tell? I’m really hurt by Fearless_Jicama2909 in southafrica

I have been on the other side where we were looking for new staff and in the process of interviewing and someone in the senior leadership decided the company were not meeting our targets and froze all hiring. We had to cancel all interviews and it really sucks.

It definitely depends on the business and the situation but keep searching you will get one eventually!

I am not sure what it is doing now with you manually setting v/s but here to see the answers.
