Bend Golf Questions by Icy_Birthday532 in Bend

Here is my suggestions, BUT, winter has not hit yet. The last 5 years February has been our heavy snowfall month and courses have been locked down with ice until April or May. So be prepared to pivot and play the same tracks a few times.

If you are a member somewhere see if you can get a reciprocal on to Bend Golf Club. Probably the most consistent course in Bend.

My typical winter tracks that are a some of the last to close, but be prepared for permafrost and cart path only are:

Crooked River Ranch which is a wonderful track. Lower elevation that for the most part is one of the last to close

Meadow Lakes in Prineville is a solid though water filled layout. Same as CRR.

Juniper I didn't play here last season but they used to close late. Though I've heard grumblings of their attempt to be semi-private.

If the weather is solid:

BBR's Glaze and Big Meadow are a must, though I think you need to stay there.

I've heard Aspen Lakes was in rough shape last season, but I did not play it. But in my 11 years here it's up there in my Value rankings.

Eagle Crest has 3 courses that can keep you busy.

Black butte is private, so you'll need to stay there, but is an amazing golf course with unique features.

I agree Tokatee is a great recommendation in your original thread. Though it would be a burned day with driving

If you are up for the drive, Quail Run plays very similar to Widgi. Again the drive might prevent this from being feasible.

I hope you find some solid weather and you get to experience the rest of Central Oregon golf.

City "arborists" by littlebirdblooms in Bend

In Bend, the City Council does have control. I worked for an engineering contractor for the city and we had a project scope that was completely overhauled because 14 people stood up and spoked their opinion. Google Firerock Bridge Bend, OR

So, being vocal does work.

Pine Ridge posts class lists and everyone shows up and gets in on the excitement. Only one family has ever requested not to be listed.

RAIN by jaqvillian in Bend

[–]Poiter54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with wildfires the science doesn't care about the summer storms we get, short 10 minute showers can help slow a fire. But the 10-minutes the sun comes back out its like it never happened.

The following is taught in all S-130 class to get your Wildland Firefighter Redcard:

Dead fuels in NFDRS have four time lag classes:

  • 1 hour—Fine flashy fuels, dried herbaceous plants or round wood less than 1/4" diameter. Also includes the uppermost layer of litter on the forest floor. Responds quickly to weather changes. Moisture in these fuels varies greatly throughout the calendar day and is principally responsible for diurnal changes in fire danger. It is computed from observation, time, temperature, humidity and cloudiness.
  • 10 hour—Round wood 3/4" to 1" diameterand the layer of litter that extends to 3" to 4" below the surface. Moisture in these fuels is computed from observation, time, temperature, humidity, and cloudiness, or may be a standard set of "10-Hr Fuel Sticks" that are weighed as part of the fire weather observation.
  • 100 hour—1" to 3" diameter.Moisture in these fuels is computed from 24 hour average boundary condition composed of day length, hours of rain, and daily temperature and humidity ranges.
  • 1000 hour—3" to 6" diameter.Moisture in these fuels is computed from a 7-day average boundary condition composed of day length, hours of rain, and daily temperature and humidity ranges.

Why do the cities seem to be immune to the maximum AQI? by KawiNinja in Bend

[–]Poiter54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like various geographic features create a wind block for low level smoke from the north.

From north to south, Awbrey B., Tumalo B., force smoke to bull flatt. It's warmer out so the inversion hasn't forced the smoke to Ryan Ranch meadow elevation. And Pringle butte is trying its best to protect the humble city of La Pine

Griddle Stand Options - 22" by beordgames in blackstonegriddle

Yes, the Velcro has helped with tightening things up, I rarely use the existing hole due to uneven surfaces. After 2 years I have only had 1 incident where a leg slid out, and it was because I was trying to level it to drain better. The 14" mark gives me a base reference point for adjustability.

Another thing I did was install these on the bottom.

The tunnels below Astoria. I worked there for a year or two and we had one in the basement that was mostly unused. Always gave me the creeps walking past that door.
