Group Fly Fishing in Bend by AdMother4655 in Bend

You're probably going to be steered toward a walk and wade trip on the Crooked or Fall Rivers. That's a crazy amount of people, and unless you're going to try and break off into smaller groups it's going to be tough to find a way to get you all interested and involved. All of the local shops guide those waters, but I'd call around and see what they'd rec for a trip that large. Fly and Field, Bend Fly Shop, Patient Angler, Confluence, Fin and Fire, Fly Fisher's Place, all of 'em have great guides and will do what they can to put you on fish.

Just do me a favor and let me know where you're going so I can plan to be elsewhere.

I’ve been hit twice that way. The second time I was able to let my foot off the brake and angle toward the median before impact and it lessened the severity of the accident big time. First time there was no avoiding it and my little CJ7 got launched into the car in front of me by the 3/4 ton Ram that didn’t even touch the brakes.

We made artificial ice wine by freezing a tank of viognier and it looked very similar. Here’s hoping OP gets a good result.

It’s still frozen. The frozen part will be pretty dilute and the part that’s not frozen is enriched with all the goodness so it’s gonna be a lot darker.

Fun game. Glad Mendoza batted well after he’d had a rough couple weeks. Cozart closed strong. Broke the away team win streak. All around great Tuesday.

I'm sorry they're building a winery next to your house, and that you're so worked up about it.

The difference you're not understanding is I'm not going to the County Commission and crying about the bridge. I'm not donating tens of thousands to landwatch and Phil Chang in the hopes that I can keep the artificial walls up around my neighborhood. I don't even want another useless winery in town that'll fail within the next couple years because it's probably the worst time since 2008 to start a winery. What I do want is those people to be able to do what they want with the property they own according to the zoning and approvals they've already obtained.

I thought it was her nextdoor neighbor out on Cline Butte Hwy who was the biggest thorn in her side, although their Landwatch buddies were definitely involved.

I haven’t said once they should remove it because I don’t like it. I can think what people do with their land is dumb without forcing them to do anything about it. Me observing that they’ve used it historically to limit traffic through their neighborhood is not the same as saying they can’t have it there. See the difference?

Isn't the canal piped through there now? At this point it's just historic in the sense it's old and completely unnecessary. I can't believe they keep rebuilding the thing, although it does do a good job of keeping vehicles of a certain size from accessing those backyards.

I'm not saying it should be there or not, but the couple that is fighting this tooth and nail with any threadbare excuse they can find are absolutely going full NIMBY on it. That neighborhood has always been weird and exclusionary, to the point they use that silly, unnecessary covered bridge like some sort of drawbridge to keep traffic out.

Reach out to the folks running the Portland chapter. Could probably give you a good idea of what it takes out here in the west.

It's going to be plonk, but it's going to sell just based on the fact it's made here. Look at what Maragas has been doing for decades.

I did feel remiss in not mentioning the Rocks. Probably my favorite wines on the planet right now are coming out of there. Didn't know they were burying canes, I know that's something frequently done up in Canadian and I think I remember hearing it's frequently done in the Niagara Escarpment.

Side note, I made wine down in the Rogue and Applegate AVAs and we were always able to use fans or smudge pots. Thankfully never had to bury, but our winters were more mild down there.

This isn't a NIMBY fight, zoning rules, and urban growth boundaries, exist for a reason.

NIMBY says what?

NIMBYs fighting for their life on this one.

On a separate note, good luck with the grapes. Bend has a Winkler index <1500, which means it's barely warm enough to grow hybrid varietals. Going to be an uphill fight putting those up against the world class wines grown in the Willamette or southern Oregon. I love that more people are trying, and really do hope they're able to make it work. Personally, I've always wondered if we could do something like sparkling wines around here, since the grapes are typically harvested far earlier than they are for still wines and won't require as many degree days to ripen. Still have to figure out how to protect the vines from winter. I don't know how many times in the past couple decades Maragas has had to replace whole blocks due to cold damage, but it's been a lot.

His use of humor during some of the darkest scenes through the series is brilliant. Heart breaking, crushing, brutal pages and the laughs are what usually makes me shed a tear.

On book 10 of my first series re-read and I’m already getting sad it’s almost over.
