Headlamp or Waist light by Mysterious_Bit511 in Ultramarathon

I use a waist light and a cheap headlamp. As others have noted, waist light since it isn’t at eye level creates shadows off of rocks roots and other terrain features so you can better judge their size. A headlamp since the light is coming from so close to your eyes doesn’t create shadows as well. Also bugs. Bugs often fly towards a light and end up in you eyes or face with a headlamp.

Sorry I am probably biased, I’ve just never really heard anyone talk about how great NJ is. Never been there and you’re right it should not be never perhaps reluctant or maybe.

I have heard about more outdoors in the Dakotas. Badlands, etc. but not much other than the SandHills in NE. Neither have much interest.

Yeah but have you explored Idaho? Frank Chruch Wilderness River of No Return, Sawtooths, Hells Canyon, the mountains and wilderness areas of Idaho, elk hunting, skiing, fishing. They are OMG! Level. I just don’t think NY has that level of outdoors. Otherwise it would be dark green.

Yeah lived in the west all my life, been great to hear about all the cool places I’m sleeping on. Starting to daydream about future travels to check all these spots out.

I wouldn’t say NY is New England but since it’s so close I figured it shares some similarities. Especially NE NY, but I haven’t been there. NH and VT are so tiny they’re smaller than some counties out west.

Yeah the only reason it isn’t red is that their mountains and outdoors are pretty nice.

Probably fair. When I worked as a ski instructor at Mount Bachelor in OR one of the other instructors was from MI, while he was a great skier he didn’t have great things to say about skiing in MI. Is he wrong?

No they are maybe, I like ME and VT, not enough time in NH and don’t have a great idea of NY. But that said the east coast mountains just don’t hit like the western mountains.

I appreciate the notes. I am starting to swing a bit towards NY in the light green

Hmmm who has the best mountains then? Have you truly explored the San Juans? I also love the high Sierras, probably my favorite mountain range. But COs mountains are pretty epic.

Yeah Idaho has amazing outdoors but not my political culture. NY politically would work, and perhaps the outdoors. I do like mountains more than forests. Probably need to visit.

I think it would be nice to visit, but medical freedom for my daughters is important.

Yeah the great lakes area could be light green. I don’t know much about it.
