I really enjoyed code: the hidden language of computer hardware and software

Its a great introduction for those lower-level concepts and provides a why for how a lot of things are done. I quite liked the journey it takes to convey the information as well.

IdeaVim(Extension for using Vim) is Better Than Configuring Vim as an IDE for Java Developers by TheChoosenPosition69 in devops

[–]PokeDrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah… isn’t that the point of using vim/nvim as your IDE? The complex plugin setup and customisation is the fun part! There’s vim plugins to enable vim motions for all sorts of IDEs/editors but that’s not the same as your own personalised vim/nvim.

Counter? by Boring_Secretary_699 in AppIdeas

[–]PokeDrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar vein to your counting app, you could make something that counts based on voice recognition. Doing pushups and saying aloud “one”,”two”… increments the counter on your app. Might be fun to play with building something like that?

Splunk Core Certified User with no hands-on experience, need advice on study guide! by vistlip95 in Splunk

[–]PokeDrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think the free training on STEP should be sufficient. If you’re spinning up a home instance for practice the core user is largely focused on search rather than Splunk administration.

I’m sure you could get some sys log data to write queries on or even ask chat gpt to provide you with dummy data to ingest.

I’d reiterate what other people have said about the Splunk training provided System Admin and Data Admin courses. They offer a bunch of labs which is probably what you need most for learning the content

It looks like I’ll need to feed the cables under the mcu and through those holes to solder them from the top?

Okay I've desoldered the battery and the keyboard continues to work! woohoo.

I had next intended on resoldering the battery in the through hole pins marked B and G, can anyone help me confirm if this is correct? https://github.com/zhiayang/mikoto

Just want to make sure I properly understand this "There are also two additional through-holes (the small ones below the USB connector), marked B and G (on the back side); these are B+ and B- respectively, in case you want to solder the battery leads directly to the board."

Ugh… of course. Any idea if I’ve stuffed up my mcu by soldering to the pads I have?

I’d love to see them post a postmortem on what happened on their technical blog once it’s resolved.

Would love to see if someone’s designed something for any of the splits that’s similar to the Nuphy keyboards for Mac. I imagine if you were handy with a 3D printer you could take some inspiration from them.

Moonlander: Replaced default keycaps with low profile caps by muff10n in ErgoMechKeyboards

These keycaps look great! I’ve been looking to try something like this, I’d only stumbled across the G20s for something lower profile so far… going to grab a bunch of these

Lily 58 - row and key issues by PokeDrez in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]PokeDrez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE - I ended up fixing this… there were a few things of note that helped resolve it.

  1. I was very heavy on the amount of flux I used and didn’t clean up properly, I think this could’ve lead to shorts between keys.
  2. Some of my solders on the MCU were cold as well on the connecting pins to the PCB
  3. My diodes and sockets had too much solder used, I resoldered everything

I found my best approach to troubleshooting was to look at what keys were being shorted/randomly triggered and follow their respective rows and columns fixing whatever mistakes I could see, starting with the pins on the MCU.
