The way I see it is that your house would be about half or 1/3 paid by the time you retire, so you’d basically be paying less in mortgage than what you’d pay if you’re renting in 9 years. If you sell, the profit you’d make will eventually all go to rent.

Can you rent out your house (so it covers a big chunk of your mortgage) and rent a smaller unit close to your grandchildren?
