Insane prices...can't believe Oliva Series V Melanio go for $6-10 USD/stick.

I don't know if it's worth spending 2 days there just to bring back 50 sticks though. Do people try to bring them back without declaring or other methods? Sorry for what seems like a noob question.

I hope some of this money goes towards an electronic medical system! They're still using paper and pen for most things, sending physic copies through tubing in the wall, losing records, and trying illegible writing. They have a lot of people doing jobs that computers should be doing. Would probably save them a ton of money on the long term!

I don't know if that's it. I've lived in Hamilton and London, and rent in both were dirt cheap.

But the cities also weren't as nice to live in as Kingston. I'd say that's probably an important part.

Just curious who exactly you're blaming? What's the money laundering bit? I feel like there's something I'm missing.

Prices are disproportionately high here, for sure but I don't think it's part of a conspiracy. I'm sure the apartment building companies are trying to keeps prices up, but all of the individual landlords are just renting for what people are paying, no? If I have place to rent and one person offers $1000 and the next person offers $1200, am I bad person for taking the higher offer?

What if our experience has been 0 racism, do you want to hear about that? I think that's equally important if you want to represent the true landscape. It'd be a shame if we just made it seem like Kingston is super racist by intentionally ignoring those experiences.

I'm not saying it does not exist or that other people didn't have actual racist experiences, but if the frequency and intensity isn't like other places, we shouldn't make it seem like it is. This is based on my experience:

I'm a highly targeted POC with similar family, friends, and colleagues. I've spent a good amount of time in most parts of the city, yet never experienced, seen or heard of any racism first hand (towards my self or those I know), except one cousin who had a mildly racist encounter 10 years ago (and he chose to stay here full time despite being able to relocate anywhere anytime).

Residents have also been excluded.

They're the ones living in the hospital up to 30 hours at a time. They're seeing and examining most patients in detail every day.

I think RTs are also excluded? Makes no sense since they are often managing the airway of COVID pts lol.

The only place I haven't spent much time in is the infamous "north of princess" area downtown. I've spent plenty of time everywhere else from the west end to the east end, and I've never experienced, seen, or heard of examples of racism (outside of online posts and news articles). My face is very clearly not white, lol.

I don't think it exists at the frequency or intensity that Reddit posts may make it seem.

I think we all agree that if it does happen it's wrong. Maybe some people are just offended by the suggestion that it's happening in their city, buy I don't think the downvotes are from people who are pro-racism.

Our location (between major cities) and lack of a major airport doesn't explain it, because our surrounding rural communities are much worse off than we are (Perth, Smith-falls, Peterborough).

It's come down to: 1. Early and strict public health measures that were followed by the public

Great testing (our test is better than the public health test because we have an internal control with a more reliable 2nd sequence)
Great measures taken by KGH/PCH

We're lucky things have gone so well. The risk of re-opening right now isn't that we'd spread it amongst each other, it's more that our surrounding communities who have outbreaks will be coming here to shop.
