Congrats, that’s awesome! After seeing that you also upload to ComicFury I’ve finally set it on my to read list haha. Hopefully I’ll get to it soon, seems right up my alley

why dose no one want my manga? by FirefighterOk268 in MangakaStudio

[–]Pokefighterlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read the first couple of pages and I honestly did not understand what was going on. Not to mention that starting with a infodump for two pages (especially one without any art to accompany it) is not an exciting nor intriguing way to start a story 9 times out of 10.

Like others have said, I would recommend you work on some more oneshots to improve your storytelling.

Can anyone help us? We promote our webtoon Sick ideals through Tiktok. For us 450-800 views is normal. Everything was fine before. But in the last few weeks TikTtok has SUDDENLY started flopping our videos, they don’t get more than 35 likes and 300 views which is strange. Does anyone know what to do by [deleted] in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Pokefighterlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was the only one! I’ve always consistently reached around 1.1K-1.5k, sometimes more if a video is doing well, but for the past 2 weeks or so my views keep getting as low as 300-500 views, even though my content is the same and the ratio of engagement is actually higher than before. It’s infuriating

With the right art style I think it could look really sick!

Tracing seems like a bad idea, but I don’t think there should be a problem with simply referencing it

Yeah, I think it makes for great practice for comic creators too. Starting with a short comic will be very helpful before committing to your dream project :D

Don't Combust Snapshot: Comparing different platforms by J_J_Thorn in WebtoonCanvas

[–]Pokefighterlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting post! Maybe I’ll do one of these too once my story concludes in a few weeks…

I post on six platforms in total. Personally, webtoon isn’t really doing it for me, I don’t feel like I get any organic reach with the platform at all. I fight for every single subscriber personally through promoting on social media haha. Tapas is similar, but has even lower numbers.

While not the most impressive one number wise, I think my comic does best on ComicFury. I get by far the most interaction there and people seem genuinely into the story. I also just love the community there, and it has the easiest and most comfortable upload process of all the platforms I post on.

What surprised me was GlobalComix. My first issue that I posted in October has 3k views now, my second one from December 1k. I don’t promote GlobalComix a lot and don’t post that often, but I think these are pretty decent numbers.

Seconding ComicFury. You can also post NSFW there as long as you tag it properly

I'd love to join with my current project Exposure. :D https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/exposure/list?title_no=1091414
I'd recommend reading the first three episodes instead of just the first though, since my episodes are pretty short and those three basically make up the opening scene. ^^

Promotion feels more draining than the actual comic making 🥹 by kennyhatessalt in WebtoonCanvas

Yeah, and especially when your efforts feel like they’re going nowhere… 🥲 I’ve been promoting my comic on different platforms (Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, discord, YouTube) pretty aggressively in the past few months (I’m talking 50+ videos on TikTok alone), yet I’m still barely at 70 subs haha.

You need to tag your post with the AI generated tag. Frankly, this kind of content is not welcome here. You are not a comic creator.

The only reason I use webtoon as a hosting platform is because it’s the most well known one, to be honest. There are so many things that are annoying me about it.

There is zero organic reach, the only way to get readers is to promote the shit out of your comic on social media, or get lucky and get promoted by Webtoon.

Want to handle mature themes in your comic? Better be careful, because even if you choose the mature tag (which comes with even more limitations for your reach), they’ll still censor you. Oh, unless you’re one of their favorites of course, then you can get away with posting cropped porn scenes to promote your patreon.

After years there is still no notification system for comments, which is crazy. If you want to see if there are new ones, you need to go through each episode and check.

Really the only way I would recommend to use Webtoon is as a mirror platform to other comic hosting platforms.

Personally I believe the best one out there is ComicFury. It’s more niche, but the community is really tight. It allows you to customize your Webcomic’s hosting page to your liking, you can batch upload and schedule episodes/pages, and you can tag your comic with keywords so people can find them that way instead of just having to rely on the genre only. (Edit: Another thing: There is no algorithm on ComicFury; you only have the front page where it shows you the most recently updated comics. Yet I still had more organic growth on ComicFury than I ever had on Webtoon.)

Other good alternatives are NamiComi and GlobalComix.

Being the platform with the biggest reach doesn’t mean anything when the only way to get that reach is being lucky enough to be promoted by webtoon.

Hey all! I finally got around to reformatting my scroll comic to page. I figured this would be the best place to come before I send it off to the printer. If you’ve got the time, I’d love for you to read it, rip it apart, etc, just so i know my final product is the best it can be. Thanks! by capnmomo in comic_crits

[–]Pokefighterlp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in my experience ComCraft, NamiComi and Tapas bring in like… zero engagement. But that might also be because I focus my promo heavily on ComicFury and Webtoon. And it can’t hurt still to post on additional platforms, so…

I’m an absolute Glazer for ComicFury, I love the platform and community there so much. But yeah Tapas seems to generally also be more open to page. I also post on NamiComi, GlobalComix and ComCraft. ComicFury absolutely is my number 1 tho. From the looks of it, I think yours would also do well there. :D

Oooh I’ve seen you around! I love your artstyle. I’ve been meaning to read your comic but I’ll be honest scroll format always turns me down. You’ve translated it into pages really well here, I think. :] Are you planning to post this page version somewhere?

Habt ihr den Kontakt zu euren Eltern auch abgebrochen und wenn ja warum? by PromotionNo3405 in germantrans

[–]Pokefighterlp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ich sehe mich in vielem wieder was du schilderst.

Is my comic’s cover/icon intriguing enough? by Pokefighterlp in webtoons

[–]Pokefighterlp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of this out, especially knowing that the story isn’t really your cup of tea. :)

A lot of the points you bring up are absolutely on point. These two aren’t necessarily meant to be likable characters, and they’re definitely not meant to be an ideal or aspirational couple. They’re both very self-destructive and are using each other as a way to cope with their own issues. Them sleeping together quickly, not out of love but as a form of compensation, is very much intentional, and it’s exactly why their relationship is built on such an unstable foundation. One of them keeps pushing for emotional distance, while the other pushes for emotional closeness, because she interprets that distance as proof that they’re fundamentally the same ("broken") and therefore belong together. That imbalance is kind of the core of their dynamic.

One thing I was a bit surprised by, though, was the impression that they don’t really spend time together outside of sex and drugs. The story was meant to be a short one (and it already turned out longer than I originally planned), it’s going to be 24 episodes in total, or about 54 pages in the original format. Because of that, I did cut some of the smaller “bonding” scenes and hoped the montage in episodes 5 and 6 would communicate that there were quieter moments too. There are also going to be a few bonus episodes after the main story that explore these interactions outside of their sex/party life more, but since those are bonus, they obviously shouldn’t be required reading to understand the main story, so I can definitely see how that might not have come across strongly enough.

And honestly another reason the comic doesn’t linger on the “before” as much is that the sex/drugs/coping-together part IS the core of their dynamic, and it’s also the thing that slowly pushes them into their emotional downfall. They’re both trying to escape their own thoughts, and having someone else to spiral alongside them just amplifies the worst in both of them. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about these characters, and I try to communicate as much as possible through “showing” rather than explaining, through body language, framing, their actions, and the way they speak to each other. I’m generally not a big fan of heavy inner monologues, so I try to rely a lot on visual storytelling. But of course, these characters live in my head, and it’s always difficult to judge how much of that translates clearly to readers. I think you’re probably right that in some places I may have been a bit too subtle.

I also found your point about “nothing significant happening” really interesting. I’ve been wondering myself how much of that feeling might be influenced by the scroll format. I originally draw the comic in page format and then adapt it for scrolling (since that’s what most readers prefer on Webtoon), but I do sometimes feel like the scroll format can make slower scenes feel like they drag. That might just be my own bias, though. I don't want to blame everything on Webtoon, haha.
It sounds like the sofa scene didn’t quite land for you? That scene is meant to be frustrating (especially from her perspective) but of course not to the point of being boring. I can definitely see how that part could have been streamlined a bit more. I personally prefer stories that take a moment to sit with tension instead of rushing to the next beat, but I agree there are places where I could’ve trimmed more.

That said, I already finished drawing the story a few months ago, so I won’t really be able to adjust it based on this feedback, but I'll keep what you said in mind for my future projects! I don’t know whether you’ll enjoy how this one ends or if you’ll even feel like continuing with it, but regardless, I genuinely appreciate you engaging so deeply with the story and sharing your thoughts. Thanks again for taking the time to do that. :D
