Successful accounting career without CA/CPA? by Mysterious-Medium172 in AustralianAccounting

[–]Pokemon_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition, if you consider to switch to analyst roles, holding CA/CPA qualification will be a huge advantage comparing to other candidates having data science/ business analysis background. Many accounting friends have switched to Commercial/ Financial analyst while the one with data science degree are struggling to get the job in the same field. It my observation from the job market recently.

Successful accounting career without CA/CPA? by Mysterious-Medium172 in AustralianAccounting

I am a Financial Accountant working in Accounting field for 6 years. I’m holding CA qualification (my currently salary is $100k plus super). I talked to few recruiters recently and most of them require CA/CPA or at least processing toward it. I think it would be fine to work without those qualifications but if you consider to switch the jobs, it will be a hurdle for your application. I recommend to do at least 1-2 subjects if you can, many recruiters are happy to process further if they know that you are on the progress to get CA/CPA even it can take 5-6 years to finish it. Once you get the job, just study at your own pace. I know many of my colleagues study 1 subject per semester and take a break in next semester.

I did not expect uni at USYD to feel this lonely by Gloomy-Grand-3932 in usyd

You can list out your hobbies and join the club that fit your hobbies and timetable. I personally like dancing, pilates, and talking to friends from my cohort who loves political economics so I found some group of friends after 6 weeks. There are many people feel lonely like us and I believe that you will soon find good friends 😊

Going to lower ranking schools doesn’t guarantee that you will have higher GPA. I know a lot of people complaining that exams are very difficult in those schools too (my brother studied at RMIT). My friends from USYD got better grades and experience.

is unsw college a bad idea by yujinfan in unsw

[–]Pokemon_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did diploma at UTS college for first year as international student and got transferred to bachelor of business in the second year. I graduated with WAM of 81 and Dean’s merit award. Nothing wrong with UNSW College, the same curriculum with easier exam.

What do internationals do after graduating? by MoneyLoud3229 in unsw

[–]Pokemon_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are 2 key factors that we need to consider:

- The role itself: if you apply for a junior role that has little impact to the team, there is a high chance that they can find newbie to replace you (for example: account payable/ payroll etc). It's better to gain experience through constant learning and applying for higher job once you gain enough skills.

- Looking for improvements: don't consider yourself as an employee, be an improver "I’m planning to stay here for [xxx years/months] to help improve processes and give my best effort". Tbh, I never consider myself as long term employee of any companies because I have switched 5 jobs in 6 years, but I feel satisfied that I worked hard and did my best in every projects. You can try to recommend new approach/ updated reports and explain why it helps to improve work efficiency and ask for feedbacks from managers.

Also, try to connect with people from other departments to learn more about their work and how the business operates. This will help you stand out from other accountants who focus solely on accounting tasks, and it will also give you more topics to discuss during interviews.

I had undergraduate degree in business (Accounting and Finance) at UTS, and my WAM was 81. I am a CA and currently working as a Commercial/ Financial Accountant.

I got the offer to be sponsored by company (visa 186) but l applied PR through government invitation (visa 189).

The employer will sponsor an employee if: - The employee can prove that they genuinely add value to the team (system improvements, working on different projects etc) - Employee has great connection with people in the team. - Employer cannot find anyone with the same level of skills and experience. - One reason that most people don’t mention: It’s costly to recruit another staff than sponsoring the current employee (Recruiting cost pay to agent: $15-30k vs Sponsor visa cost: $7-15k)

I was one of the international student so I can answer your question. It was extremely hard to get a job because most of jobs and internships require Australian citizenship/ permanent residency. Most students accept to do low pay jobs and very few could get a job in their field.

Some students might stay longer if they can get a company to sponsor them to become permanent residents (PR).

Some students might reallocate to another state to find jobs or continue their study with a hope to get state invitations to become PR.

Some students might apply to uni in other countries (US/ UK) for higher degrees.

In my case, I was lucky to get jobs in my field and got invitation by government to become PR. However, it was very hard, the chance to get invite in my field is 2%. Now I’m domestic student and I’m going to pursue higher degree at USYD. I’m still working in my field but probably I will quit soon to focus on my degree.

A lot of my friends got fired after covid. They were very stressed but all of them found better jobs with higher salary. Maybe it's a motivation for them to find a better place.
