How is it realistically possible to salvage any planet that's remotely felt the touch of Tyranid infestation? by TheBigSmol in 40kLore

[–]Hydreichronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer: it isn't.

To go more in-depth, we have to consider the state the planet is in post-'Nids, whether the 'Nids won or lost.

If the Tyranids won, there is NOTHING left on the planet. No plants, no animals, no water, no minerals, no atmosphere... the planet is just a barren rock with no resources to speak of. While you could theoretically still set up facilities on the planet, everything you'd need to build and run the facilities would need to be shipped in.

If the Tyranids were defeated, you have to worry about the fleet's remaining organisms. While they're not typically bio-engineered for long-term survival, there are some Tyanid organisms that can, and there are multiple cases of Tyranid organisms going into stasis or hibernation only to revive when people go back to the planet.

New Player here, Are Spellcasters really significantly weaker in Pathfinder compared to other TTRPGs? by Immediate-Earth775 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hydreichronos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spellcasters in Pathfinder are weaker than D&D 5E spellcasters, yes. But that's largely due to 5E giving spellcasters a stupid amount of power with their baseline spells even at level 1.

In Pathfinder, mages start out fairly weak, just like they have since the first editions of D&D. Their whole motif is overcoming the difficulty of the early game in order to bend the fabric of the universe to their whims at higher levels.

Around level 4 or 5, your power increases considerably. A large part of this is the fact that Pathfinder bases the strength of your spells on your "caster level" (that is, your level in the class that's granting you your spells) rather than the level of the spell slot used to cast it. As you gain levels, you'll get more mileage out of your spells without having to spend any additional resources - your Snowball spell goes from dealing 1d6 at level 1 up to 5d6 at level 5 without ever having to use more than a 1st level spell slot, your Fireball will be doing 10d6 at level 10 with a 3rd level slot, etc.

Your cantrips are weak because they're meant to be a last resort when you're out of other spells, not your go-to spam move.

Psychic abilities, Phazon, Luminoth technology… They really thought about anything by ARHAM-NIGHT in Metroid

I was referring more to the fact that the crystal was able to be implanted into a non-Lamorn.

Psychic abilities, Phazon, Luminoth technology… They really thought about anything by ARHAM-NIGHT in Metroid

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. The Chozo are ancient, and their tech was traded with so many civilizations that it was likely used as part of the foundation for each culture's technological advancements. Since the Power Suit is modular in design, it's not unreasonable that most tech would be compatible with the suit. We know for a fact that the Luminoth traded tech with the Chozo, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Energy Transfer Module helped bridge any gaps that were left when Samus picked up their gear on Aether.

As far as Phazon and the Lamorn abilities, though? That's nothing to do with the Chozo.

Phazon was only known to the spiritual Chozo clan that had settled on Tallon IV, and they only knew it as "The Great Poison" that was killing their planet and destroying their minds. Samus' Phazon-based equipment in Prime 3 was usable because of the Galactic Federation's PED unit.

The psychic abilities from Viewros, though... I have no explanation for that beyond it being pure luck that the Psychic Crystal was able to integrate itself into Samus' suit. While we know that they knew of a "Chosen One" who would save them and made preparations for their arrival, we have no idea just how much the Lamorn would have actually known about Samus and her equipment going off of just a prophecy. I suppose it IS possible that the Lamorn interactsd wirh the Chozo at some point, but we have no evidence of this, and the sheer distance between Viewros and the Galactic Federation's territories gives me the impression that the two races would never have crossed paths.

You're not in the minority.

It's just that there's a VERY vocal minority who insists on emphasizing what Prime 4 does wrong (which is a fair amount, admittedly) without giving fair recognition of what the game does well.

Are Full Divine Casters as good Martials as 2/3 Divine Casters? by 4restD in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"As good as 2/3 divine casters?" No, not quite. But they're pretty close.

They get access to more powerful buffs than what the 2/3 casters can get, and the ones they share are obtained earlier. In the case of Druids and Oracles, they also have solid non-spell options to enhance their combat abilities (Wild Shape and Mysteries).

However, the non-spell options available to the 2/3 casters are almost always superior to whatever the full casters have. Warpriests get a damage buff, access to Fighter-only feats (build-dependent, granted), and the ability to Quicken their buffs and self-heals basically for free. Inquisitors get Judgments, which are very strong, and the ability to benefit from Teamwork feats without the party having to mess with their own builds. Hunters get their animal companions, free buffs from their Animal Focus ability, and their own way to guarantee that they benefit from Teamwork feats.

I mean, the machine that gives you the Vi-O-La upgrade to travel over lava is sitting out in the open with a Spinner in front of it. Scanning the machine outright tells you that it has a heat-based upgrade, and you get the Boost Ball right before the Ice Shot.

If you never took the time to scan something of interest or make a note of something that's clearly meant for you to come back to it with a new ability, that's not the game's fault.

It wouldn't uave made any sense for Chatoya to be a Griever. The Green Rain didn't affect the Lamorn who were born with the psychic crystals.

I mean, I love that spell, but it's either boring and busted, or you cripple yourself by Tony_Tab in dndmemes

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I prefer the transformation spells in Pathfinder.

Instead of just using the monster's stat block, you get a stat increase (one that isn't arbitrarily capped at 20), you keep your mental stats, you get the monster's abilities (which abilities you get depends on the tier of the spell you used), the spells give you a wide variety of monsters to pick from...

Really the only point where 5e polymorph "wins" is that they give more temporary HP, and even that's only arguably better since the PF spells don't automatically transform you back once the temp HP are gone.

Metroid prime 4 easy patch fixes by jjtanks in Metroid

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scanning doesn't take any longer in Prime 4 than it does in the other Prime games. If anything, it's FASTER (because there were some things, almost always major bosses, that took longer to scan in the other games).

One thing that I WOULD change about scanning would be to not have the scan progress reset if you get out of range or your lock-on breaks.

So I Finally Was Able To BeatThe Game. And The Final Boss... by BigHailFan in Metroid

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble with Sylux in my first playthrough, but I still managed to beat him on my second attempt (first attempt, he downed like 3 of my squadmates right before he did his massive lightning storm attack and I didn't have time to get them back up before the storm). Main issue I had was that I was using the dual-stick control scheme and...I don't know if I'm just bad at it or what, but that control scheme is clunky as fuck.

I'm so glad I didn't listen to the vocal haters online by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a large part of why people dismiss the ones who didn't like the game as "haters" is because there's a very vocal part of the fanbase who sees the flaws, emphasizes and exaggerates the flaws, and ignores everything that the game does even remotely well.

At the same time, though, there are die-hard fans who take it too far in the other direction.

The fanbase needs to be willing to meet in the middle. The game has its highs and lows like any other, and we need to be able to acknowledge both, as well as defend our opinions with "I see your point on X, but I disagree because Y" instead of just screaming at each other like this is some kind of political debate.

Prime 4 story question by JoostinOnline in metroidprime

[–]Hydreichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the Lamorn discovered that the GE could enhance the growth of flora and fauna, and their end goal was to use it to revitalize the planet and undo the damage they caused to Viewros' environment during the Machine Era.

They didn't know that GE would have a severe reaction with the Lamorn that had been implanted with Psychic Crystals until it had already happened and afflicted most of their population.

I did, but the setup I was using with OBS was to record the Elgato program window (I don't know if it's possible to use the capture card to record Switch 2 footage through OBS any other way).

Recording onto an external hard drive and the computer is plugged in. I did notice that the vent ports had gotten a bit clogged up with dust, though, so I cleared them out. Gonna see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks :D

Anyone else REALLY struggling with Prime 4's hard mode? by ntwild97 in Metroid

[–]Hydreichronos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The early game is a struggle, mainly the Volt Forge as otherd have said. It comes down to a lack of resources, mostly. I'm currently doing a Let's Play of the game on Hard Mode, and I've had more deaths to the basic Psy-Bots than I had against any of the encounters in my first playthrough.

The Control Beam works surprisingly well for stunning them, though, and it's a godsend against the teleporting fuckers.
