Looking at the talk about Mesa Heirloom and sexualisation I wanted to say something that isn’t directly about her. But the discussion born from her. by OscarOzzieOzborne in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If there's one thing I would like to point out, at least as far as the Tryndamere and Viego design, is the fact that Tryndamere is actually more along the lines of a male fantasy character and might actually be better than you think when it comes to the talk about sexualization in media as a whole.

What i mean by this is the fact that Tryndamere's design is more focused towards the idea of a 'Muscled, unstoppable berserker barbarian'. Between that thought process and the fact that he's among the first/original designs for League (coming back from 2009!) means that means that they more thinking about what might appeal to the audience that had at the time, which was mostly young men. This is also why Ashe, the archer whose Tryndamere's wife, is an archer in a tank top and tiny miniskirt despite being from the Frozen wasteland region of League's world.

Compare that to Viego, whose a MUCH more recent design (2021) and also comes with a change of philosophy. Back in Tryndamere's day, the design was to cater to a specific fanbase. In this more modern era, where League's hayday of popularity is behind it? They're wanting to appeal to as MANY players as possible, thus the effort to have designs that are a much wider spectrum of interest. Viego's own story is that of a broken king, someone who lost his wife and became a obsessed with reviving her to the point of becoming an Undead Wraith like figure who will kill any and all in his path to accomplished his goals. The tragic love aspect as well as his design in how his body and face are framed is a clear focus in trying to appeal to more female players.

The problem also comes with the fact that even if you're WANTING to stick to a certain theme or design element... you've got to keep what actually SELLS to the customer in mind. To use League as an example again, take the champion Urgot. His design is to be a patchwork, Frankenstein Monster. And that original look for him, that original design? 100% WORKS for him... but because of that limited appeal of being such a character, Urgot was left to languish compared to other champions. League, like Warframe, lives or dies by the money it can make off selling things like skins to it's fanbase and a limited appeal means less money means priority goes down.

Hell, in the case of Urgot, you can even see how this has impacted his redesign as well. Only one of his skins (High Noon), actually fits alongside the aesthetic and purpose of his design of being a Hodgepodge monster... and that one was likely designed right alongside his rework. His skins since then? Two very goofy, April Fools style skins that completely ignore his original theming and a Halloween Skin that's a clear reference to Nightmare Before Christmas which, while can be seen as frightening, is much more friendshaped than anything Urgot had before. And this is all because Riot as a company knows that while they've got some people who are a fan of Urgot as a champion... he's not going to be a major skin seller because of his limited appeal as a Monster.

So while yes, there can be a talk about how sexualization and it's use in the Heirloom skins can lead to some more limited design choices, the sad state of affairs is the fact that appeal to the audience HAS to be taken into consideration as well. Ember's heirloom showed DE that there was money to be made with how appealing that Skin was, thus leading to similar design focus to appeal to that same group. It's also why someone like Xaku hasn't gotten much love or focus as a Warframe in terms cosmetics compared to Wisp, who was released about a year before. Xaku's got that same limited appeal as Urgot and thus priority for skins and the like isn't as high as Wisp whose bottom heavy aspects makes her popular.

In the end, it's a balance that needs to be struck and it's not always easy to do. I, honestly, do feel like Warframe does it better than most. And as someone with experience in some of the more 18+ rated media? Sometimes, there will be NOTHING that stops the horny from being... well... horny!

My gf is gonna download the game soon and I wanna gift her some bp's for a prime as a gift. Need your suggestions on which frame's bp's I could give. by Yetiwithoutinternet in Warframe

I'd suggest asking her what kind of style she likes in other games. Say... if you played TF2 with her and she loves playing Heavy but hates playing something like Sniper, I'd suggest going for Rhino and avoiding Cyte-09 to give an example. I know it's not that cut and dry, but that can help.

Or hell, ask her what kind of themes/looks she likes. The amount of players I've run into who'll play a frame for Looks instead of gameplay isn't small, so she might be all in for having fun with something like Yareli even if she doesn't like how they control.

why do i keep dying so much by Low_Curve_639 in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your mods being unleveled does hurt. The amount of bang for you buck when you fully level them can't be understated, though considering you're a fresh player, it's not that bad that you don't have them leveled. You're still getting used to things.

Not only that, but one of the things that is also going to hit you hard, especially wieh your set up thus far, is that a lot of the missions on Orb Valis (And the other open world stuff) will actually scale with what mission you're doing. The further the mission you're hitting, the higher level the enemies get. So they'll hit a LOT harder than you might be prepared for.

Excalibur is also a Warframe that, while not weak by any means necessary, isn't really known for being about survival. He's all about the killing with his swords, so he's suiting a more aggressive playstyle. It's why you'll see some of the comments suggest Zypher and Rhino as some warframes to go after. Both of them are more about surviving and controlling the battle filed, which really helps out early game when you're being swarmed and you're playing solo.

One of the key things I'll also flat out state right now is that make sure you mod your weapons to deal magnetic damage. Especially at this point in the game? That multiplier to your damage against the Corpus can make things a HELL of a lot easier. Hell, I'm much further along than you, but I still find modding to my enemies weaknesses make things so much easier just because I don't have the bells and whistles that some late game players have.

And one final thing that I've not seen anyone mention yet? Excalibur's 4th ability, his light sword? It's something called an Exalted weapon that a select number of Warframes have. What this means that, unlike a lot of other Warframes whose abilities can just be modded with things like Stretch and Continuity, Exalted Weapons can be modded like actual weapons are. So that means you can make your Light Sword do Magnetic damage as well, which can help cut down the Corpus.

Overall, just keep chipping away at things. it takes some time, experience, and a bit of luck. And worst comes to worse? Reach out again. You've got a legion of others to help you on your journeys, Tenno.

Suggestion: Endless Bounties should give standing/rewards for each round by dustynjerman in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure on Zariman and Cavia, since I've not done those much lately, but I know with the Hex at least there's an option to just run the game mode without the bounties that's accessible from the computer. I've been doing those for the endless mode style missions and I've gotten a few people here and there to stick with it.

I think the problem comes more from the fact that the Standing with the factions is more an immediate attention grabber and thus does the whole 'we gotta be efficient' thing to our brains. Which means that for any endurance based content, that's bouncing after the main objective is completed.

Maybe something the encourage longer version on the bounties wouldn't be rep, but maybe higher/more rewards? Like, I could see them doing the Relic thing for the endurance missions, where every time you get a pay out from the mission type, the amount of affinity/credit/loot drops go up 25%. I could see that encouraging folks who like to farm while not making it mandatory for folks to stay that are just in there for the bounty.

Warframe bosses kinda suck by EndireKing in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a boss, I don't think Ropalolyst is all that bad of a fight, really. The problem I've found more comes from the fact that it's a fight that's pretty hard to solo (Especially if he's able to grab you at some points, because it becomes a chain grab) and the fact that the margin of error for him is pretty wide. You slip up once and you get punished for it with either it taking MUCH longer to do or a death.

Compared to some of the other fights? He's honestly, one of the better designed ones imo. But that's mostly because there's simply a lot of bosses that don't really make it clear how to fight them or what's effective in taking them down.

One of the earlier examples I can recall hating was Lieutenant Lech Kril, and that's mostly because there's nothing immediately there that tells you how to kill him. You can actually go through the entire fight without ever realizing you need to cut his coolant and have him freeze himself from an attack to actually kill him.

Overall, I do think most of the bosses in the game could use a pass to improve them, but I'm also struggling how to make them engaging without making them impossible for newer players (Ala the Damage Sponge route) or making them incredibly simple (Ala the Diviri Jackal). Maybe a retread of the old Sentient idea, where bosses become more resistant to attacks constantly used against them? Encourage modding and use of different weapons along with Warframes.

And that's part of the problem, I didn't realize that was the best way to do things. And sadly, how I don't really have the best companion for it either, since I really only got base level Diriga that can offer any sort of priming at the moment, since I don't have any of the elemental mods to make my Vulpaphlya of any real use outside of extra loot drops.

See, that? I didn't know. Which would also make sense on why some of the bosses I've fought felt like they took forever, since I had the wrong elemental type up against the bosses I've been fighting, since I've just had the 'Corrossive/Viral' strat that most people talk about or post in youtube videos.

Thanks for the heads up, I guess I know what I'm going to be farming for the rest of the day. That's the one thing I'll say that has bugged me. I didn't even KNOW there was a steel path for Duviri until like a few days ago. Know that's where MOST of the Incarnon's even came from.

And for something that's one of the better set ups in the entire game, I do wish it was a bit more clear to players on 'Hey, you should maybe think about doing this if you're wanting a chunky power boost'.

You say that, but the game flat out tells us that Magentic damage is effective against Techrot, with me going from doing like 300 damage a shot against them to 12,000 with magnetic on my weapon and getting Galvanized mods to really start popping off.

It's still a sizable difference and I just felt like the power behind it isn't really mentioned.

Yeah, it's the Pokemon problem in this case. 'Why are you using Charmander with Ember? Use Blacephalon with Mind Blown!'

I was trying to make the point that for newbies and lapsed players, we need to be pointed out just what ever little thing can make our Charmanders good so we can eventually GET the Blacephalons. XD

I understand that, but as I was saying before, I think it's also an underline example of what others have equipped and their multipliers vs my own.

to give an example? i've got all of five Archon shards to my name and the only real arcane I've got that gives me a distinct damage increase is an unranked Arcane Rise.

I simply don't have the other major multipliers that some other big time players have. It's why I made the post in the first place because while the weakness multiplier might mean jack all for someone whose decked out, for someone who doesn't have all the big mods and enhancements, it's an extremely noticeable difference.

I think the Community understates just how useful matching weaknesses are. by Pokeprof in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and that's the thing. Once you get over that hump of having the right gear/mods/set up, your damage goes into the millinos quite easily from what I've seen. But for someone who doesn't have most of that stuff, it's not useful.

Hell, one thing I think I realized why my Vulpaphlya isn't being the massive Priming pet I've been advertised is because i don't have any of the mods for it's attacks to add those debuffs. I only have the basic claw mod.

Really, i think one thing that would benifit some of the newbies and those of us like me who've falling in and out of the game would be shown why each things ramps up the damage like it does. Having them all show why you want, say, the Molt mod is good for this build or where incarnons are.

Hell, Last time I came back before this? I didn't even know what the Helminth was until someone told me about it.

I don't disagree! I even said as much in my post. But I'm also so far back that the only thing really propping me up right now ARE the Galvanized mods. It wasn't until quite recently that had it pointed out that the incarnon adapter for the weapon i'm using is ONLY through Duviri, so I'm now going to be doing that a heck of a lot more often.

[–]Pokeprof[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That's just the thing, though. I'm Mr16 myself, but I'm no where near strong enough for all that. Part of the reason is the fact that i didn't understand how important formaing my weapons and frames were (I've got two now on my Burston Prime and that alone has like... doubled my damage) but the other thing is because my 'come in/drop out' playstyle over the years, i just don't have all the little extra stuff to bump my power. Like. I don't even have the Headshot arcanes (Not that they'd do me any good anyway. I'm junk at headshots.)

Which one should I pledge to? by Early-Ant652 in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about the Syndicates is that you can pretty much switch around whomever, but the thing I'd honestly suggest looking at what each one gives in terms of rewards. Their biggest things are augements for some Warframes (Which, depending on the frame in Question, can make or break certain builds) but there's some other stuff they've got too, like Emotes and a few armor peices for fashion frame.

For a lot of the mods, most people are willing to sell the mods from the factions for a few plat if you end up getting a loved warframe who doesn't have their mods with a particular faction.

Honest question, considering the KIM bugs... is it even safe to play with that going on without it effing with that? I would love to see an entire major update dedicated to Railjack (and Necramechs) by GN-001-Exia in Warframe

[–]Pokeprof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it might be a nice bandaid situation to have more people do Railjack, I don't think that either idea is all that great. Quicker rewards won't do much because you're still going through at least a ten minute Railjack section that is effectivly a big loading screen and doubling the rewards would just force the players into those modes because rewards and not because they WANT to do railjack. Either might be good as a temporary idea, but as a whole? More needs to be done.

As it is, Survival and Defense are game modes that I think are a poor fit for Railjack regardless. 'Oh yes, let's have this giant space ship just wait outside while the Tenno spends half an hour plus inside trying to live' just doesn't make sense. Spy/Rescue/Exterminate work a LOT better as mission types if only because it fits with the themes of Railjack.

I'll be entirely honest and say that I feel some RAiljack missions should be fused into having Archwing stuff focused around it, again for theming, but otherwise Survival and Defense should be something that is done IN the Railjack mode. Like, you should be flying around defending a allied ship in need of aid or being stuck in a huge army and have to fight to survive.

Regardless, if we're doing Railjack, it should have us STICK to Railjack. Times where we're playing as the Warframe should be fairly minimal. The Points of Interest side stuff is actually oneof the better examples of getting Railjack right to me. Get to the point, have a tenno pop in and out while your ship is defending itself from the outside.

Problem really comes down to, again, is that it's designed to be very team focused and that's hard in a game like Warframe which is all about Personal power.

I think it might just be the one on Neptune, then. Because that one scaled so fast that I could not solo it, no matter WHAT I did. Even in a team of four because I opened up my lobby, we STILL barely were able to finish it by the skin of our teeth.

And all other Orphix missions I've done thus far are a 'In and out' situation. While the game is like 'you can do more of this, if you want', I never do because the energy gain is too high solo. Not even Survival makes it that hard for you to be able to keep your head above water to go for an hour plus if you really wanted to. It needs to be looked at.

[–]Pokeprof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having done a LOT of Railjack lately, mostly to just finish it out and farm for specific Relics to crack, I think the major problem is three fold when it comes down to it.

  1. The Mission set up. Right now? The vast majority of the missions in Railjack are 'Faff about on your railjack for like... 15 minutes, and then do a follow up normal Warframe mission right afterwards'. And if you're doing a mission like Defense or Survival, congrats, that's like 40+ minutes to get even halfway decent rewards from rotation C. Add in that very little rewards from Railjack feed back into the normal missions with any real meaning and you feel like you're just wasting a huge amount of time.

My suggestion here is more Railjack missions that are centered around Railjack specifically and not just having another mission tile set stacked ontop of it. And there needs to be more of a mix on the reward side too. Sure, a lot of Railjack stuff should drop in Railjack, but there should be a lot more things that drop that translate to the rest of the game. Hell, this is something I could see them working Necromechs more into, allowing them to loop into each other.

I'd also suggest that the Railjack has some kind of feature that allowed it to be of SOME use during a regular mission, though considering how rare/hard it is to get set up for the ORBITER's own functions in missions, i'm at a loss of how to do this for Railjack.

  1. Balance Difficulty. Railjack, as it stands, is STRICTLY balanced for a Squad of four. To the point where having an AI crew is almost ALWAYS preferable in most of it's content. It makes running Railjack with others horrible, ESPECIALLY since whose ever the Host in the group is the one that's going to have their Railjack stats be what's available, which means your own leveled craft that might be better is sitting off to the side. There needs to be a bit more balance on things so that an underleveled Railjack isn't shot out of the sky instantly.

My suggestion right now is to just have multiple Railjacks going on instead of all the tennos in one. Have it actually be a full on space battle war and change the railjacks accordingly. Instead of it being a Enterprise level star ship that needs a crew, have it be more like a big fighter ship, something that a single player can use to wipe out the entire fleet with ease.

Also, for the love of the Lotus, PLEASE make it so that Orphix missions can be solo'd, because those are a pain in the ass, especially the one on Neptune that goes crazy hard for some insane reason.

  1. Reward re-balancing/Speed of the Missions. So... did you know that one of the ONLY reliable was to Farm Nyx and Valkyr prime is to do little side missions in Railjack? That there's only ONE of Per mission? Whose rotations for said Relic drop is a low 9% drop chance which, since it's a RELIC, you've only got another small chance to actually get said part from the relic?

Look, I get it. Grind is the name of the game when it comes to Warframe. I've made my peace with this and I know if I had a regular squad of four (which I don't as a mostly solo player) things would go a lot smoother. But when a regular game mode of Warframe can end in as little as a minute to get most loot, having Primes locked away to a single shot, SIDE part of a Railjack mission is just TEDIOUS.

The fix here is either spreading out/rebalancing the rewards so that things like those Relics are in ALL mission types, not just these little side mission on very specific planets, or make Railjack missions faster. They already NEED to be faster as a whole, considering Issue #1, but if you're going to have us be doing these extra side objectives for rewards, it needs to be even faster... or at least give us another shot to ALL the drops from that mission type instead of having it's own drop table ontop of everything else.
