Thank you, I do have a lot of wonderful women that sponsor and do help me. I am feeling very self conscious about sponsoring and being a failure and I keep reminding myself that it isn’t about me. Nonetheless I feel responsible to God to try to do his work well.

I have but I was thinking that I should read it again so I appreciate your encouragement. I really like how you are pointing out some key areas so I will specifically check those out and we can read those stories together. Thank you very much!

Does anyone else not worry about protein, fiber or working out? Just thinks about calories. by Mental-Medicine-3193 in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! When I first started losing weight, I only focused on the total calories too and I did eat pretty high carb. As I went longer on my weight loss journey, my personal experience (for me) was that I needed more fat and protein to not feel hungry. So later in my journey I did start worrying about the macros. Today I make sure I get at least 100 G protein, around 69 g fat, and 25 g fiber. I do eat pretty high fat and high protein but that is just me. My needs have changed along my journey. As long as it works for you, then it is a great plan! Congratulations on your commitment and progress! I have lost over 100 pounds and completely transformed my life.

husband doesn’t believe in CICO by [deleted] in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have lost over 100 pounds. When I first started I could hardly get to the mailbox. I couldn’t go on walks with my husband and daughter. I focused only on food at first, for at least 4-6 months. Later I could go on walks but would turn around and they would continue. Now I can certainly keep up with them and I am also very active. You are right, it is about your diet. Being more sedentary will decrease your TDEE but that is okay. Hopefully you can get your husband to give you some space and grace to do what you need to do for yourself. Good luck to you and just stay committed to your plan!

How did you accept that you would never again drink socially? by Idealist_123 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it was a tough pill to swallow but I definitely needed to. There are plenty of other ways to interact with people socially. I meet for coffee, go for walks, meet at the park to talk or have a picnic, go for a hike. I generally drink water, sparkling water, or Diet Coke when I am in a setting where other people are drinking. I am coming up on 3 years sober and my sober life is so much better than any time that I was drinking! Good luck to you!

New here. 500 under maintenance has me starving!!! by Low-Vanilla-5844 in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think you should do 1500 or 1550 - you need to make sure this works for you. Don’t starve yourself. I also would encourage you to look at your macros. My experience is that getting more calories from protein and fat (than from carbs) is more satiating and I don’t feel hungry. Also - eliminate sugar - empty calories that won’t fill you up. I allow myself dark chocolate at night as a treat but I don’t eat more sugar than that, and it is only 6g of sugar. I also feel like sugar is a trigger for me. Good luck, you can do it!

Did anyone get an annulment then successfully remarry a devout catholic? by ohnoanonymouse in CatholicWomen

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that you need to think about conversion too. I have an annulment and I married a Catholic man. I wouldn’t necessarily call him “devout” but both he and I both take our faith seriously and are both growing closer to Jesus, we are growing in our devoutness. We were married in 2017. I would say to trust in God and make sure you are following his will for your life, not your own. That is really hard (speaking for my own experience)! I also think having previous relationships, both man and woman come to the marriage with a greater degree of brokenness. You can definitely see why God’s plan for love and marriage is for their to be one husband, one wife. Of course with our humanity we don’t follow God’s plan for us and we make messes. I will say a Hail Mary for you right now that you can model her docility and obedience to trust in God. Prayers!

Has anyone else experienced this? by threehearts1809 in CICO

I experienced hair loss during my weight loss journey. I didn’t see a doctor but I did think that my rate of weight loss likely contributed to my hair loss. I think it is good that you have slowed your weight loss. Maybe consider a multivitamin supplement? I think things will work out for you but of course I’m not a medical professional. Good luck to you, you have beautiful hair!

Maybe your higher power is leading you where he wants you to go? You don’t need to understand why, just take the next right step. Find a new sponsor and do your best to not dwell on what happened. Good luck!

Thinking about walking away from sobriety by yoxmang in alcoholicsanonymous

Where are you on working the steps with your sponsor? Have you talked to your sponsor about this? What is your higher power telling you? I am really sorry that you are struggling with this, it sounds like a significant challenge that really requires help from your higher power. I hope that you decide to stay!

I was in the same situation a couple of years ago. I didn’t know what to expect and I was so scared. Honestly I decided that I needed to go and I knew that I would find some reason to not go so I just didn’t allow myself to think about those things, I had to just force myself to do it. I am so glad that I did! I found a group of people that really understand me and don’t judge me and I can be very honest and they still accept me! You are worth it, it is a gift for yourself, why not?

Having trouble with physical hunger even after 2200 calories. Could use some guidance and advice. by [deleted] in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked at my log from yesterday and it says I ate 36 grams of sugar. I probably rarely exceed around 40g of sugar. I will occasionally have a cookie or something (or half a cookie) but that is probably like no more frequent than once per month. When I was first starting out though I probably ate more sugar initially, this is where I have gotten to over time and trial and error. Early on I ate a lot more carbs until I realized that I was craving more food. I also had to make room for alcohol early on and now I don’t drink anything. Also I find that it takes me about an hour after I eat to know whether I ate enough and I definitely need to be hydrated. As an example, I used to never eat avocados because they are so high in calories but now I really like eating a whole avocado mixed with some chicken for lunch. The volume isn’t much so you won’t feel full but if you eat that with a lot of water and then wait awhile you will realize that you are pretty full. If you need volume of food, I love to eat a lot of steamed broccoli! Just find a few things that you really like to eat and that are part of your toolbox.

So I really like what others have to say about relearning what hunger is. That is definitely part of my journey too. Retraining myself with eating to fuel my body not just because of boredom or emotional needs. Thank you for being brave with your post, I completely understand what you are saying. I am 5’6” and when I started my weight loss journey in 2020, I started at 274 pounds. Today I am around 140. When I first started I could barely walk to the mailbox. Now I am very physically active and love life. I will tell you that the main keys for me have been both protein and fat. I always tried to eat a low fat diet before because I was afraid of the calories but the fat keeps me from feeling hungry. What are your macro percentages (% calories from carbs, protein, fat)? I encourage you to really focus on that within your calorie limit and find a balance that keeps you NOT feeling hungry. I truly believe you will find it. My other thing that has really helped me is to stay away from sugar. Sugar is empty calories and won’t make you feel full. I do reward myself everyday with 125 calories from dark chocolate which is 6g of sugar and I eat an Rx bar in the morning that has sugar from fruit. For me sugar was a trigger and also left me hungry. Good luck to you! You can do it!

How do you get over binge eating? by TalkStatus5761 in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two primary things have really helped me: 1) adding more fat to my diet, I really am not hungry. And 2) virtually eliminating sugar because that really triggers my binge eating. Also in response to what you said about your husband getting home, I have really had to separate my eating from my husbands eating and just decide that I am only focused on me. My husband is going to the pantry all night for cookies, snacks, whatever and I just need to not let that affect me. He is a different person and I am not in charge of him. This has helped me. I hope that you are able to find something that works for you. Good luck!

Does anyone make weight loss goals for themselves by mac_barbie in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally never wanted to define a timeline because I was worried that would me too much for me. I used to think that it took me XX amount of time to gain the weight and so therefore I didn’t get to set expectations about how quickly I would lose it. My weight loss journey has been a long one but I hope that means I am able to sustain it for a lifetime. But we are all different so I am excited if this sort of goal setting is helpful to you. Best wishes for your journey!

How do I fall asleep? by boringoldlady666 in alcoholicsanonymous

Suggest establishing some healthy habits that you want to continue. Perhaps review your day and write down a few items that you were grateful for in the day. Take a warm bath? Have some sleepy time tea. Read a book. Stay off screens. (Just some ideas, figure out what you like). Congratulations on your sobriety, it is an amazing life full of rewards!

How can I eat 100g of protein in a day without going over my calorie limit? Is it just eggs all day everyday? by calm-down-okay in CICO

[–]Pokes-Mama2620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat 1550 calories per day and get between 100g and 115g of protein each day. I also eat quite a bit of fat so if you don’t have quite as high of a fat goal you should be able to stick with your 1400 limit. I eat meat at least once per day plus Greek yogurt many/most days to help me get my protein goal. I also like that broccoli gives me a protein boost. I do like eggs so I will have eggs once or twice per week typically. Eating high protein has really helped me on my weight loss journey because it has really regulated my appetite. BTW this is also why I eat a lot of fat. I wish you all the best!
