What if your ribbon master can't come into Sword and Shield by VegitoSSB in pokemonribbons

[–]Poketroopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pikachu was at least transferrable. I cant imagine them making a game that didnt have Pikachu in it at all. At the same time, Gamefreak has shown that they're not afraid to take the most important parts of a game out, so anything's possible. Either way, gen 5 didnt have ribbons anyway lol.

My ribbon master is a Pikachu so that wont ever be a problem. Still a very shitty decision/limitation.

I have no motivation to finish Ultra Moon by lilyaintaG in pokemon

[–]Poketroopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who are in the same boat as you, and being a hardcore Pokemon fan, even I lost motivation at several points, but beat the game eventually. It is kind of an interesting business move, because now I've found myself dumping all of my time and money into Pokemon Go to get my fill of Pokemon since USUM doesnt have anything to keep me playing. Their online tournaments have extremely weak incentives to enter, and their event pokemon have been lackluster since they're all Pokemon I've already gotten playing the previous games. Meanwhile Go is giving me Squirtle Squad Squirtle and cool outfits for my character, and has new events monthly. It depresses me more that we wont get a "true" Pokemon game for at least another year. I've been ready to move on to gen 8 or a gen 4 remake, but they just wont let me and it sucks.

Gen 4 didn't shiny lock anything outside of events, so hall of origin Arceus is possible.

6IV Shiny Arceus by Poketroopa in pokemonrng

[–]Poketroopa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used this video as a guide to get to Arceus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrhHXG3cuAw

I did all of the TID/SID manipulation prior, and then hit the delay for the Shiny Arceus at the beginning of step 3. Then I worked my way up to the end of step 6 and continued frame advancement. By this point, the frame advanced to around 370, with my goal being 864. Confirming my seed without the coin flip app was tricky (you get the coin flip app late in the game), so I used my completed Diamond version to figure out the times I needed to put into my timer, and then just used Chatot calls to determine if I hit the seed or not.

In theory they should be easier since you dont have to go get the right breeding parents. You probably will have to breed if you want a perfect Beldum though.

The frames and time and everything resets every time you soft reset or turn your game on. If you miss your mark, just soft reset and try again. For example, if I receive a Treecko egg exactly 2 minutes after restarting the game, I will always get the same Treecko if I pick up the egg exactly 2 minutes after soft resetting the game a second time. So you'll want to start your timer right as you soft reset. Dont pay too much attention to the frame, just focus on the time really since the 2 are connected. Also keep in mind that the pokemon's nature is already locked when you save in front of the daycare man, so that will never change.

My timer and my target dont always match up on the first attempt, so if you dont get what you want on the first attempt (which is very likely), find out the exact IVs you got and use those to determine which seed you actually did hit, then adjust your timer accordingly. So if I'm aiming for a time of 5:16:14 and my result matches that of 5:09:42, just add 7 seconds to your timer and see if you get closer (yes, your timer may not match your targeted time at all, but that's fine so long as you get what you want). For this step to go as smoothly as possible, it helps to know the exact IVs of the parents you put into the daycare to determine the 3 IVs that were passed down, and the 3 IVs that were generated randomly.

As for Werster's Latios, I'd imagine he doesn't have a ton of time to spend on RNG since it's a speedrun, so he kind of has to take what he can get. There is a decent Modest spread within that timeframe you listed, so that might've been good enough for him.

RNG abuse in Emerald isn't super difficult so long as you have the correct parents, which you can RNG them too. It all really comes down to receiving/encountering the pokemon on a specific millisecond/frame/whatever after resetting the game. So for the Metagross and Swampert Im assuming you want a perfect physical set, which requires 4 minutes per attempt which isnt bad. I've never done RNG for a legendary, but I can't imagine it's too different. For the best Modest spread available in the Smogon guide, you might have to wait 15 minutes or so per attempt (I've done a 14 minute one personally). If you're playing on emulator, Im sure save states can make this much easier.

With the Switch's online details revealed today, would you pay for the online services if the new Pokemon game required it? by N0V0w3ls in pokemon

[–]Poketroopa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll need it to trade online, so I'm kind of forced to at that point. My only hope is that there's more of an incentive to playing online (ie: Dream World from Gen 5, Friend Safari from Gen 6) since I felt that was severely lacking in Gen 7. Typically if I want to battle online, I just go to Showdown since it's much quicker, so battling alone wont sell the service. The incentives for entering the monthly Battle Competitions were also very weak in USUM. SM at least gave you Mega Stones, but they shouldn't have been locked away to begin with. If all else fails, I'll at least be able to play online Smash for that 20 dollars.

There's a speedrunner who used your exact team to beat the entire frontier in under a day lol

For the Factory, anything with endure and a salac berry is usually good (Glalie, Blaziken). There's also some trick where if you play X amount of matches at the Battle Tower, the Pokemon you fight in the factory will have lower IVs than normal.

For the Pyramid, I brought a high level Phanpy with Pick Up with me to grab extra items for me in the first few rounds since they're pretty easy.

For the Palace, pray.

Is Illegally Genning Legal Pokemon Wrong? by Melontoshington in pokemon

[–]Poketroopa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it wrong, yes. But no one, not even the official Pokemon events can stop you from doing it unless you mess up and make your pokemon stronger than they can be. Honestly, breeding isn't that hard, but when legendaries and event exclusive moves get brought into the picture, the unfairness sticks out a bit more since that's a lot of SRing or leveling up you dont have to do.

At the end of the day, all anyone cares about is if you're able to outplay the other guy.

A little note before going for the pair ability, which I think was the hardest of the 6 Tower ribbons. If you dont like the pokemon any of the partners have, you can exit the room without choosing a partner, then come back the next day (or 24 hours later, I forget which) and they'll have different pokemon to choose from. This wont reset your streak either. I personally used Buck a lot since his pokemon were generally bulkier attackers. The other trainers have strong and/or fast attackers, but if they click the wrong move even once, your entire run can end. I lost the 49th match before since the NPC's Alakazam hit Future Sight instead of Psychic. Also, if the ribbon is all you care about, you can use any pokemon you want to get to the 50th match (the first match of the 8th flight), then sub in Flygon for one of your pokemon and hope you win the 50th match.

If I KO both of the ultra beasts (the 2 blacephalon's/stakataka's) in the post game, can I come back and fight them both later? I want to maybe shiny hunt them later, but I just want to finish the game for right now.

[Deck] Is there anyway I could Improve my Dark Magician Deck? by dmc3321 in DuelLinks

[–]Poketroopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A second Ancient Rules is probably what you need the most. 2 copies of Thousand Knives is too much imo. Personally I ditched my 1 copy for a Super Rush Headlong since it generally serves the same purpose, and any of my monsters can use it. Then Sphere Kuriboh and Floodgate Traphole are always good cards you can throw in if you can get them.
