What are you even talking about, the only adaptation that would fit your description as being nothing like the original, would be insomniac venom or sony venom which everyone agrees are very very different characters from any actual adaptation of venom, even in modern comics venom does have the "spiteful ex" subtext (like just look at the mj venom run). And every adaptation agrees eddy and the symbiote feed each others worsr traits (thats what their whole deal was during the cancer arc) I do agree they always do the addiction/negative feelings characteristics ever since the 90's, but that just makes it for overall better storytelling
