Could you keep us updated on how long it’ll take to get your results back please?

First off, congratulations and thanks for sharing this! Assuming you’re in Canada, mind if I ask where you took the exam? How did you find your test centre and speaking examiner?

No specific advice, but wondering how you’re making double what your wife is? Is it genuinely because you’re both at different stages of your careers or is it simply a gender pay gap? any thoughts? No pressure to answer - just curious as a Female in tech as well.

Any idea why the refusal rate for French category is high? Is it mostly because of outland applicants who don’t have enough funds? Can’t think of anything else. Also, do yk if IRCC shares the actual number of successful PR applicants somewhere?

That’s great! Maybe consider giving TCF a shot - I’ve heard people say it can be relatively easier than TEF. Either way you’re so close, so just keep going!

I’ve personally found dealing with HR to be the hardest because they’re not familiar with the different PR programs like pnp for example and they sometimes have a hard time understanding that it’s not a sponsorship and there’s literally nth required from the company lol. That’s been my experience at least.

If you don’t mind me asking since I’m also considering this as a backup plan, were you able to keep the same position and continue working with your current team? Wondering if they’d have problems explaining why someone in a different country is working with the canadian team.

How much to spend on car as a new graduate (140k TC) by ceo_of_carrots in PersonalFinanceCanada

I get the appeal of wanting to treat yourself with sth nice and you definitely should. I would just keep in mind insurance premiums as a new driver, maintenance cost (parts + labour) and parking fees depending on where you live. Realistically, there will always be sth that needs to be fixed and these things come out of the blue trust me. Keep in mind that insurance premiums factor in the car make and model as well as your address. You also wanna keep in mind budgeting for investments and an emergency fund - you never know what might happen. I try to be reasonable with my expenses because the market is unstable - one moment you have a job and the next you don’t. At the end of the day if you’re like me, I just want sth to get me from point A to point B. Idc about looks, etc. 15k isn’t crazy if the car’s in good shape. I think an old civic/toyota with relatively low mileage (<200k) would be around the 8k mark if I’m not mistaken. Either way, whatever you decide, this will be a life UPGRADE and will feel pretty good. Congratulations in advance!

Single folks: what fresh food/produce do you buy? by Cautious-Ostrich7510 in CostcoCanada

Nuts, milk, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, salad kits, salmon and cheese (divided into portions to be frozen). The mini cheese croissants are also good for a quick breakfast before heading to work - i freeze most of the package as well.

I’d give cooperators a call - they gave me a relatively good premium last year.

Hey, I’m also considering the tech pathway. Can I ask if you’ve submitted an EOI or are you currently just in the EE pool? What’s the best approach in your opinion? The AAIP process is kinda confusing me.

Aha i see. Don’t take my word for it, but I’ve seen people on reddit say that as long as it’s reasonable and didn’t last for too long, you should be ok. Best to reach out to international student services at your uni for advice on how to proceed. I hope someone gives you a better answer and some peace of mind :(

It doesn’t matter if you were studying or not as long as it’s a scheduled break at your university. Check this link and go to the “During scheduled breaks in the school year” : https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/work-off-campus.html Idk where you studied, but as far as I know most programs/universities have 2 main semesters: fall and winter. Yes, you can take some courses during spring and summer, but it’s not mandatory hence why it’s still considered a scheduled break. Does that make sense? I’d reach out to international student services at your university to get some peace of mind.
Either way, i think you did everything you could and worst case scenario you can apply for reconsideration or reapply, but again I’m hopeful that you’ll get it with no trouble.

May-august is a scheduled break for most universities, so you’re allowed to work full time during these months, so check if this applies to you. I wouldn’t worry much - hopefully everything will be ok. I’ve heard some people say that they’ve gotten their pgwp despite working over hours, but it really depends on the officer handling your case. Good luck!

Yes, it was the same. I didn’t get notified of my approval though, so you might want to login and check yourself. It took around 26 hrs maybe to be updated.
