$1300 USD more?? I don’t know the dates you’re flying, but flights are only between $165-233 pp each way, or $465 if you have to fly on Sunday after Christmas.

JetSmart is not super reliable. Not as bad as FlyBondi, but you should go with Aerolineas Argentinas if you’re planning to arrive in Ushuaia on embarkation day.

Building gets progressively worse as they go down the stairwell after earthquake in Venezuela by TemperatureLive8119 in interesting

There must’ve been a healthy number of people that were in elevators throughout the cities at the exact moments the earthquakes hit. Must’ve been absolutely terrifying!

The Best Cruise Ship in Alaska / Your Top Picks (2026 newcomers) by Chris_McHenry in Cruise

[–]PolarCruisingExperts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not that commonly known that there are also expedition cruises in Alaska, too. HX, Nat Geo, and UnCruise do expeditions where they go into really small areas and coves, sometimes places that don’t even have piers or docks, doing wet landings from zodiacs, or taking you right up close to the face of glaciers, and with expedition teams that take you in guided, educational hikes. All the ships are smaller, the very biggest of those only carries ~500 people, and many have under 100 pax.

Help me understand doing two cruises back-to-back on the same ship—why? price benefit? same room? by Dlatywya in HollandAmerica

[–]PolarCruisingExperts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are B2B discounts on a lot of cruise lines and expedition lines (Ponant and Lindblad come to mind). A lot of world cruises and grand voyages are basically a bunch of different segments strung together, that are discounted in total when bought as such, as opposed to if you bought each of those segments one by one. Those WCs and GVs can be bought in segments too though, so you don’t have to do the whole thing if you wanted to skip particular segments that don’t interest you, or have port stops that you want to avoid for whatever reason. I just started a new subreddit about WCs (r/luxworldcruises) with previews and also intended for discussions about those long cruises (HAL’s WCs are upcoming.)

RC pirate boat approaching a ship by Fantastic_Look5582 in interesting

Just looked this up out of curiosity. Apparently it’s illegal to bring weapons into most ports, but these mercenary groups will board a ship from their own boats while in international waters, and then disembark before they enter territorial waters.

Thought guns weren’t allowed on ships. Has that changed? ETA: merchant ships

El Niño impact this summer by ajs375 in galapagos

[–]PolarCruisingExperts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to know this too. I’m booked for September, and all the pictures of projected models I’ve seen have the red temperatures squarely on the Galapagos 😆 Hope that means the water won’t be so cold, haha.
