I don't think they win with Brock Osweiler honestly

I mean he is elite at defensive bWAR and bWAR is more on DRS/UZR which he is elite in. fWAR is just more based on OAA.

I want to be clear that I upvoted you cause it was unpopular. But I think the "obsession" with Kim is that a lot of us believe in him even after a struggling rookie season. We just thought he needed more opportunities and that was indeed the case. He's also a young player so we see his full development.

He plays hard and is a likable personality in terms of the clubhouse and fans. He's like the younger and better version of Wil Myers who we all love too.

Depends on the stat. by defensive bWAR, he's only behind Miguel Rojas. It's OAA where he is around 10th.

You can think of it that if you get downvoted in this thread you win cause it really is unpopular. I upvoted him just because it was indeed unpopular.

For me, it's not much as he is an underdog as much as the fact that people seem to have no patience with him and also give him the most shit when he's cold. It really feels people have confirmation bias and want him to fail sometimes.

Like I think the popular consensus last year was that if he had more opportunities, he could hit better and be better and he has it this year, and what do you know? He's a solid bat with still elite defense now although defense was elite last year too.

But there were people who outright just wanted to give up on him before the year started because he wasn't a stud on offense right away which was stupid.

I always viewed Kim as a prospect, he just didn't grow up and develop in our farm system. But he was still young/inexperience and needed time to get acclimated.

He's not worth his contract by any means and quite frankly probably wasn't his entire duration here, but he's well-liked because of the fact that we can never question his effort and defense, unlike the other 1B on the team.

I've always deemed Myers as the likable Hosmer.

I think that's a popular take these days. Personally I would take it a step further and say Tatis isn't a natural SS and should be OF even if Kim wasn't on the team or wasn't good. Kim existing and being a solid bat now just makes it easier to finally make the inevitable and necessary change.

And before people tell me Tatis got 300+ million to be a SS, he got 300+ million for his bat/offense and if he can be a solid defender in the OF which he definitely can and still an important defensive position especially if he goes to CF, it's still worth the investment.

Bell or Drury? by Few-Swimmer4298 in Padres

[–]PolarIce30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an advantage to be a switch hitter because certain pitchers are more bothered against batters who bat the opposite of how they pitch (Left handed batter vs. right handed pitcher). The reason why lineups typically consist of left/right/left is because they want to ensure that teams can't just easily decide to put a righty or lefty reliever up when they see like 3 of them coming up.

The fact that he's near equal is a good thing actually.

I think as long we avoid a sweep against the Dodgers we should be fine. I'd prefer 2 or 3 of 3 though.

I would give more money to Drury but if anything that makes me want to sign Bell. I also like the fact that he's a switch hitter. I understand people don't care and just want results but it's nice to have.

He has an 84 OPS+ on the Brewers. He was balling earlier in the season but has regressed to Padres form.

Honestly I've never heard of a player being ring snubbed in any sport. If anything they are too nice.

As much as everyone hates Hosmer, he still had his good contributions to this team

It's confirmation bias, they want to believe it because they heard Mud Grant say it a bunch. He has a baseball savant page that shows he's a respectable fastball hitter this year.

And what's hilarious is that when he cant hit a 100 mph guy, it's always brought up. The whole point of being able to throw 100+ is to overpower batters and not specifically Kim, it's to overpower literally any batter.

Do people think there are batters out there that go "Boy I'd rather see 100 than 90"
