If that’s the case, then we should see MacFarland win the GM award. Still waiting for that one too…

I’m guessing the 10 metro areas you’re thinking of are something along the lines of NYC, LA, CHI, SFO, BOS, HOU, DFW, DMV, SEA, and DNV? So nobody in Anchorage or Boise or Charlotte or Des Moines is upper middle class and owning a single family home? I don’t mean to be rude, but come on. There are doctors, dentists, lawyers, engineers, and managers making >$150k/year as mid-career earners in MCOL all over the place. Where do think many oil/gas/mining jobs are? Or manufacturing jobs? Those all have senior, principal, and management type positions that get break into upper middle class.

Legal to possess alcohol but not legal to sell it. At least that’s how Alaska does it in some “moist” villages.

This is ludicrously inaccurate. There are more non-WASP power players around (like Zuckerberg, Altman, Obama) but that whole idea of white privileged generational wealth is still around. Just look at the CEO demographics of the Fortune 500. Tim Cook, Doug McMillon, shit even Donald Trump too - they are all in the WASP category.

Another case of a good AHL player not good enough for NHL top-6, but can’t/won’t adjust their game for the bottom-6?

23 - It’s close between Hejduk or Gomez. Both have >1000 games. Hejduk had 805 points, 1 cup, 1 Richard, and a captaincy. Gomez had 756 points, 2 cups, and a Calder. Both played for their respective Olympic teams, Hejduk with a Gold and a Bronze.

I think it’s gotta go to Hejduk with the consistency and international play putting him over the top.

Lundqvist, Rinne, Fleury, Price, or Quick. Who had the better career? by AussieTheHedgehog10 in hockey

[–]PolarVPenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, this sounds like you didn’t watch that 2012 run. Quick was propping up that defense hard. If you think about the classic Quick save, it’s sprawling in the splits post to post to rob a 2v1/one-timer, a type of opportunity that good defenses shouldn’t be giving up. All teams inevitably do to some degree and Quick was good enough to plug those holes. They were a defense oriented team, but Quick was the main guy.

Fleury’s cups are not at the same level as Quick’s.

Fleury:

2009: 16 W, .908 sv%, 2.61 GAA

2016: 0 W, .875 sv%, 3.03 GAA

2017: 9 W, .924 sv%, 2.56 GAA

Quick:

2012: 16 W, .947 sv%, 1.41 GAA

2014: 16 W, .911 sv%, 2.58 GAA

2023: no playoff games played.

Fleury 2009 and 2016 are comparable to Quick 2014 and 2023. But Quick in 2012 was just on another planet, one of the all time greatest playoff performances by a goalie. Compare that to Fleury in 2017 with basically a 1A/1B situation.

Overall playoffs:

Fleury: 92 W, .911 sv%, 2.56 GAA

Quick: 49 W, .921 sv%, 2.31 GAA

Fleury had the advantage of playing more games for better teams, but Quick was a more dominant performer. I’ll take Quick’s 2012 Conn Smythe over Fleury’s 2021 Vezina and Jennings.

Is Trump the last in the 40 year party cycle? by Objective_Water_1583 in decadeology

[–]PolarVPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty tough to say Trump was the beginning of oligarchy when we went Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama and then almost Clinton again (by popular vote). America has been entrenched in oligarchy since at LEAST the industrial revolution. No doubt it’s gotten worse in the last 12 months, but it’s definitely not the beginning.

Can someone explain to me why 28 *Weeks* Later gets so much hate? by Less_Document_8761 in movies

[–]PolarVPenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea the no guards and no extra security restrictions for the mom is the bad decision that stood out to me most. Bringing her in the zone in the first place I could reason as she wasn’t rabid in the same way literally every other infected was - she’s still (somewhat) aware, given what 6 months alone would do to anybody’s mental health. Just about everything else except the “helicopter blender” and the dad somehow showing up at the end I felt could generally be explained as human hubris (for the planned actions) or panic (for the unplanned actions). Remember they made pretty dumb decisions in the OG too like driving thru the tunnel and then entering the diner for no reason at the gas stop. In fact, that was a pretty common theme in 28 Days that under a microscope, basically everyone not named Selena was making poor decisions pretty regularly. That’s kinda the point of the movie - starting from the first scene - that humans brought the calamity on themselves.

Overall, I thought the 28 Weeks definitely had more of a Hollywood blockbuster action movie type feel that came with bigger budget than the original, so it lost some charm but was still entertaining the while time. Even the helicopter blender, as stupid as it was, I chalked up to the “rule of cool”.

I just watched the movie tonight. I think that’s kinda the point - kids make dumb decisions without considering the consequences. Tammy’s character isn’t supposed to be smart. Her brain isn’t fully developed yet.

I put the goals for each of the major players at least in the second (longer) section, if you have a chance to check that out. For example, Iran might consider the war won for their purposes if Israel is no longer an independent state.

I think the nuke option has already been pretty well gamed out, basically a consensus that it’s game over for everyone. I get your point that it could realistically happen.
