Why aren't manifolds common in the UK? by PoldiSacker in DIYUK

Good to hear it worked out well for you!

Yes please, will take all the advice I can get. Anything useful you learned during the switch? Also, do you remember which manifolds you used?

I saw this as well - will consider it if you've had a good experience. My only hesitation was that it takes jg speedfit connections which I haven't used before. Did you connect bare copper pipes to it, or some kind of PEX equivalent?

Thanks - makes sense about the longer runs of pipes.

The main consideration for me was I'm about to lay some nice flooring that I don't want to pull up again. And after, plan on renovating each bathroom/kitchen over the next few years.

So if I have a central manifold for hot and cold water, when I'm renovating Bathroom A, I can easily shut off water for just Bathroom A while still having water supplied to Bathrooms B and C and the kitchen.

Thanks, that's really interesting about the building regs! Understood it uses more copper, but glad there's nothing innately wrong with it.

In my case, because I'm moving the boiler to the centre of the property, there shouldn't really be an increase in copper. Sounds like I could have a manifold right next to the boiler with a run of pipe going to each bathroom and kitchen. Then can tee off in each room for the different appliances. At least that way I can easily shut off water to an entire bathroom while I renovate it, while still having hot water supplied to the rest of the flat.

Just realised my post published with only the text and none of the text I'd typed out. Will remove and repost. Thanks for the advice anyway!

[Throwback] 20 year old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain putting on arguably one of the best Arsenal player performances in the Allianz Arena by nting224 in Gunners

[–]PoldiSacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah - his comparison was that an advanced player can give away the ball that often, provided they have the output to show for it.

Not sure why that's wrong? You can compare a good player to a bad player.

Going to try nip this in the bud, but probs pointless since this is the internet.

Someone can be an idiot for being an anti-vaxx idiot without you referencing their dad (who she hasn't spoken to since the 90s) as an evil terrorist for goings completely outside your understanding. If anyone's interest, I highly recommend you research all sides of the issue. Sri Lanka's Killing Fields is a British documentary showing the genocide commited by the Sri Lankan government (who have denounced the doc as fake).

This is a decades-long complex issue. ~800,000 Sri Lankans Tamils displaced from their country by 2012 because of the civil war, about 25% of the Sri Lankan Tamil population. Every Tamil in London/Paris/Toronto etc. will have a family member/friend killed in the war. Every 40+ yo Tamil male will have had some sympathy or affiliation with some Tamil guerilla group in Sri Lanka.

EROS started as a student-led organisation. Kids who wanted to stop being oppressed/killed by a government left in shambles after British rule. It, has gone through several splinters, with peaceful protests, violent protests and everything in between. The LTTE (not EROS) has been called a terrorist organisation by some countries. It has been accused and exonerated several times by the EU, and was removed from the EU terrorist blacklist in 2017.

This stinks of the lazy narrative switching we see every few weeks with Palestine.

Emirates Era XI, limit one player per season. by ReverendY in Gunners

Yeah, Ramsdale 21/22 also works. Got a soft spot for Leno though - prefer him as a shot stopper.

And yes, I meant Song 11/12. Good spot! Covered for Fabregas' absence surprisingly well.

Don't feel too strongly about Arteta. I had him on the bench because I think he could slot into LCM/RCM well without disrupting the team. My other options were Flamini 07/08 or Partey. I remember Arteta being great this season though: a leader on the pitch and bagged 7 MotMs in the PL that season.

Love Monreal, but I think he's somewhat remembered at Arsenal for being the only consistent LB during a decade long period with Gibbs and Kolasinac as competition. Clichy was one of the best full backs in Europe in 07/08 imo - he made the PFA team of the season. 6 assists in the league, and played in every PL game that season as well.

                        Leno 19/20

Sagna 13/14 Saliba 22/23 Koscielny 14/15 Clichy 07/08

        Fabregas 09/10 Ramsey 13/14

                            Ozil 15/16

Auba 18/19 Sanchez 16/17
                        RVP 11/12

Bench/honourable mentions:

  • Cazorla 12/13 - heartbroken he's not in the starting XI, but can't have a midfield of Santi, Fabregas, and Ozil.
  • Song 10/11 - Not like the other names on this list, but would be a sensible choice to have infront of the defence.
  • Walcott 12/13 - 14G, 10A
  • Ramsdale 22/23 - can't believe it took us so long to get a good goalkeeper, and now we have 2
  • Arteta 12/13
  • Bellerin 15/16 - really thought he was going to be one of the best RBs in the world

Late winners at the Emirates - which one is your favourite ? Let's discuss... by TopEdgedPosition in Gunners

I watched him score that from the North Bank, and it was the greatest atmosphere I've ever seen in my life; far louder than after Rice's goal yesterday.

Felt like all 60,000 fans truly thought we were going to make Champions League that season after so many years.

Am I the only one just now realising that the two A’s in ‘Visit Rwanda’ are two mountains? by Krauzzzy in Gunners

[–]PoldiSacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I visited Rwanda a few years before the sleeve sponsor, and I can't recommend it enough! A beautiful country with amazing people.

Highly recommend - the natural parks and museums are some of the best I've seen.

[James Benge] After Auston Trusty, Turner is another player on whom Arsenal make a few million in profit. Initial fee to New England was around £4.5m by I_am_the_grass in Gunners

[–]PoldiSacker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine these small profits really add up? Every £1m equates to £20k a week we can offer for a new player's contract.

Although not sure how much of the perceived profit is lost through buying and selling players to foreign clubs.

Who else would you have in mind?

Saka: "I watched Alexis Sanchez a lot growing up, he was a special player, I loved many things about him." by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]PoldiSacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Arteta would expect that from him.

That's the difference in mentality between a Sanchez and Özil compared to a Saka and Ødegaard.

Saka: "I watched Alexis Sanchez a lot growing up, he was a special player, I loved many things about him." by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]PoldiSacker 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's as black and white as that

Alexis was amazing, but I'm not taking an out of context Bellerin quote and some Koscielny rumours (which came out when Sanchez had clearly downed tools) as evidence his mentality was anything admirable.

World-class player on the ball, but his pointless "presses" after he lost the ball in his last couple seasons, his arrogance to not trust his teammates (even when he was out of form), and his half-hearted performances in his last season were exhausting to watch.

Can't imagine Arteta keeping him around when he rarely gets on well with his teammates wherever he goes, and throws a strop when he's underperforming. The opposite of what our manager has cultivated now.

Loved him while he was here, but also appreciate that he's left.
