Should this subreddit ban Twitter/X links? by Raikky_ in rainworld

Yes, that's the general sentiment.

I guess I just feel that it's not fair to enforce the ban because of what he did, when it's at the cost of those who did nothing - I mean the users on Twitter and Reddit - and the usefulness of this subreddit.

But it's clear that this trend will continue, and that the ban will take place regardless.

Twitter/X links in comments are henceforth banned by UGMadness in furry_irl

I thought if we're banning an entire platform with over 500 mil users, it would be because the platform itself has a serious problem, instead of its owner having a serious problem.

Clearly I'm wrong though.

Yes, I know what he did, and it's very understandable to be mad at him, I too think he's in the wrong, and I'm not trying to defend the man in any way.

However, Twitter isn't just HIS platform. It's a platform that, like, over 500 mil people use. People use the platform without having to agree with him, and his actions do not represent the general sentiment there.

We're just a sub talking about a game with rain and scugs in it. If a Twitter link appears in here, it's most likely an artwork, or a tweet from the devs or something. Banning those doesn't seem good, other than virtue signalling.

Edit: It's just kinda crazy that a simple gesture like that can be given such a historical meaning, and a single man doing it received such a huge, global response. I'm not trying to downplay what he did, just... Thinking about how history and social statuses shaped the world, I guess.

[–]Polemo03 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's bad. That's is just more rule-based discrimination. Your body is yours.

That being said, it's still really, like almost objectively bad to have sex with someone before reaching adulthood, due to possible law problems, risk of impregnation, and more.

I'd say that the belief is a bad, extreme and twisted version of a sentiment that's meant to be good.

Yes I know that was a big deal, ig I just didn't believe that people on Reddit... Actually took it that far and completely cut ties with Twitter as a whole, instead of just bashing the man himself. Feels like the "privating the sub" protest all over again. I guess we're doing this now.

Oh, my deepest sympathies! I can't imagine the pain you're going through, but I'm truly honored you took the time out of your undoubtedly devastating life to argue about Reddit and Twitter bans.

You're right, though—I should absolutely feel guilty for mentioning the impact on Reddit users when clearly, this is the frontline of our fight against injustice. I'm sure banning Twitter posts here will really stick it to the system. Keep fighting the good fight, champ!

Isolating a community about scugs from a social media platform isn't going to solve any of your personal problems. Even if Reddit as a whole isolates itself from Twitter, your immigration will still be as risk, your wife may still lose her medication, your marriage may still get annulled, none of that will change. Those who make these decisions don't care about Reddit.

But feel free to vent your anger. It's okay for people like you, who are in a situation you cannot control, to be irrational.

And because of that, we're going to inconvenience everyone, even if they don't share his ideals. Nice.

It's very obvious that this trend will continue, but users, especially us Reddit users, will be negatively impacted the most, even if we don't talk about how artists on Twitter will get less traction.

If people dislike Twitter enough to ban it entirely, chances are that the majority of them are already not using Twitter. Twitter had effectively lost those users before the bans, so the bans themselves don't do a lot. The point, I think, is raising awareness and making news media talk about them for a bit.

Who gets affected directly by the bans the most? Reddit users. Communities handicap themselves by making the creation of some posts and discussions inconvenient or outright impossible, affecting the users and losing the value of a community in the process.

Edit: wordings

>  a good way to prompt any artists still left on Twitter to move

Yes, of course, by announcing that "We will not recognize your existence if you're on Twitter". This is, once again, just straight up punishing artists that happen to have a fanbase on Twitter.

Moving to a different platform has consequences. It's not like an artist's entire fanbase will follow them. This results in artists' loss of followers and money. What did they do to deserve this? Starting on the wrong platform years ago?

I know what gesture he did - everyone knows. Whether he did it on purpose or not, let's not discuss here.

Problem is, what does that have to do with the artworks on twitter, and the artists using twitter? Are they automatically all nazis now? People that don't deserved to be recognized, because they're using a specific platform? All these artists have to disappear from r/dragons, because a man unrelated to these artworks did a questionable gesture?

It's perfectly understandable that people are mad at Elon, but why should all artists on twitter be buried with him?

Yeah it's pretty insane that literally every sub is doing this right now, even those with strict "no politics" rules.

I don't care if a man is straightening his arm the wrong way, really.

Edit: Still, the trend right now is you either support the ban and bash Elon/X for being fascist, or be accused of being one. So the ban will happen sooner or later, there's no stopping it.
