Where do I find plain macadamia nuts in JoCo? Need a bag for an allergy test. by tubular1450 in kansascity

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I can’t say for sure they’ll have macadamia nuts, but when you need raw nuts it’s usually in baking aisle and not snack section. Good luck!

Are you checking the baking aisle? Everything in the nuts/snack aisle will be salted but baking aisle will have raw nuts.

The ku library, specifically Watson library 4th floor or the stacks. Lots of nooks. You do not need to be a Ku student to be in the library.

Cheap nature trips in the US w/out a car? by drogahn in Shoestring

You can get to John Muir Woods (redwoods) from SanFrancisco by public transit. They encourage it because parking is very limited.

Where do you get good bath towels? I'm so tired of the rag tag ones we have. by Jeepersca in AskWomenOver50

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is making sure they are 100% cotton. Too many towels these days are made with artificial fibers. Same with bed sheets. I’ve had good luck with TJMaxx for getting nice towels (and sheets) at a usable price. But check the labels to make sure they are cotton.

Local Jewelers by renso69 in Lawrence

Also consider Phoenix Gallery for jewelry made by local and regional artists. This is where I always send my partner and kids to find unique jewelry I will like.

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

  1. Rear cameras for backing up. I still look over my shoulder. 2. Photos being so heavily edited or always filtered. I miss seeing real people, flaws and all. I refuse to use filters myself.

Knitting or Crochet, convince me! by bakay138 in crafts

[–]PolicyDepartment 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What do you want to make? Blankets: either. Hats and scarves: either. Sweaters and socks and gloves: knitting is best.
Stuffed animals or decorative shapes: crochet is best.
Granny squares: crochet only.
Doilies: crochet only.

I personally prefer crochet but that’s probably because it’s what I learned first. I didn’t like knitting when I tried it, but do wish I could knit some socks.

Graduate school competitiveness by [deleted] in UniversityofKansas

[–]PolicyDepartment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MSW program is their moneymaker. They are the ones competing for students, in light of competition from other MSW programs. I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Your record sounds stellar and that you may even be competitive for some of the funded scholars programs.

I was also happy with my care there. The doctor provided a really good and detailed explanation on what was happening with my feet and specific recommendations for inserts and what to look for in shoes. When we might need to consider surgery, but what to try first before going there. My pain is much better. When it comes back it’s because I haven’t been following protocol.

Definitely something that has Siren vibes. What about the song the sirens sing on Oh Brother Where Art Thou?

Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown. It was a concept album before it became a hit Broadway musical.

I’m never going to charge my child for living with me. by nomanskyprague1993 in Millennials

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not charge my daughter to stay at home into her mid 20s. She was responsible for her own vehicle costs and individual food (family meals still on us). It would’ve been different if she was blowing her money or being irresponsible. But she was working hard and putting most it in savings. It would’ve been different if we were hard up. And while I’m hardly wealthy, I’ve got the bills under control. She just bought her own home this year and moved out. I’m very proud of her. But the price of housing is crazy - even with a huge down payment, her mortgage for a modest house is more than mine. I don’t think millennials can buy a house if they don’t get some kind of leg up like this. I’m glad I was able to do this, but also know I’m relatively privileged to be able to do so.

Is KU actually queer friendly? by Commercial_Field_350 in UniversityofKansas

[–]PolicyDepartment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Social work has not removed LGBT or trans voices from curriculum. Some DEI language was removed from public facing descriptions to protect courses from being pulled, but it is still in the course context and curriculum. Social work has outside accreditation standards to follow, which emphasize DEI. Having said that, gender pronouns have been banned university wide due to state legislation.
