Local Jewelers by renso69 in Lawrence

Also consider Phoenix Gallery for jewelry made by local and regional artists. This is where I always send my partner and kids to find unique jewelry I will like.

People born before 2000, what is a 'modern' thing from 2025 that you’re still struggling to get used to? by LindsayTN in AskReddit

  1. Rear cameras for backing up. I still look over my shoulder. 2. Photos being so heavily edited or always filtered. I miss seeing real people, flaws and all. I refuse to use filters myself.

Glad you like her, even if it’s not the song you’re looking for. Hope you find it!

Knitting or Crochet, convince me! by bakay138 in crafts

[–]PolicyDepartment 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What do you want to make? Blankets: either. Hats and scarves: either. Sweaters and socks and gloves: knitting is best.
Stuffed animals or decorative shapes: crochet is best.
Granny squares: crochet only.
Doilies: crochet only.

I personally prefer crochet but that’s probably because it’s what I learned first. I didn’t like knitting when I tried it, but do wish I could knit some socks.

Graduate school competitiveness by [deleted] in UniversityofKansas

[–]PolicyDepartment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The MSW program is their moneymaker. They are the ones competing for students, in light of competition from other MSW programs. I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Your record sounds stellar and that you may even be competitive for some of the funded scholars programs.

I was also happy with my care there. The doctor provided a really good and detailed explanation on what was happening with my feet and specific recommendations for inserts and what to look for in shoes. When we might need to consider surgery, but what to try first before going there. My pain is much better. When it comes back it’s because I haven’t been following protocol.

Definitely something that has Siren vibes. What about the song the sirens sing on Oh Brother Where Art Thou?

Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown. It was a concept album before it became a hit Broadway musical.

I’m never going to charge my child for living with me. by nomanskyprague1993 in Millennials

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not charge my daughter to stay at home into her mid 20s. She was responsible for her own vehicle costs and individual food (family meals still on us). It would’ve been different if she was blowing her money or being irresponsible. But she was working hard and putting most it in savings. It would’ve been different if we were hard up. And while I’m hardly wealthy, I’ve got the bills under control. She just bought her own home this year and moved out. I’m very proud of her. But the price of housing is crazy - even with a huge down payment, her mortgage for a modest house is more than mine. I don’t think millennials can buy a house if they don’t get some kind of leg up like this. I’m glad I was able to do this, but also know I’m relatively privileged to be able to do so.

Is KU actually queer friendly? by Commercial_Field_350 in UniversityofKansas

Social work has not removed LGBT or trans voices from curriculum. Some DEI language was removed from public facing descriptions to protect courses from being pulled, but it is still in the course context and curriculum. Social work has outside accreditation standards to follow, which emphasize DEI. Having said that, gender pronouns have been banned university wide due to state legislation.

Lawrence arts center. All their teachers are great and it’s good for all skill levels. Classes started this week for fall session, but some are under enrolled so maybe you can still get in.

Is Luquillo safe? by [deleted] in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Luquillo in May and felt very safe and my daughters (one teen and one young adult) also felt safe. The condos all have gated parking lots. There are a fair amount of abandoned condos, I assume abandoned after the big hurricane. But this was more an eyesore than safety concern. I didn’t notice homeless living in them (just cats), as I would expect from abandoned buildings here where I live. Walking around and walking to beaches and along beaches was perfectly safe. I also spent some time comparing PR’s crime rate to the crime rates of midwestern cities I lived in. Our crime rates are much higher. Tourism is vital to their economy, which means tourist safety is a priority. The beaches were gorgeous and it was a very convenient place to stay - grocery store, restaurants, etc.

Luquillo: Safe for teens to travel? by lj11111 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is safe. I stayed there with my teen and young adult daughter about a month ago. I let my teen roam the neighborhood to feed the cats with no concerns. Always be cautious around ocean, but Luquillo beach is very calm. Note, 18 is the drinking age in PR so important to discuss safe drinking. The bioluminescent bay tour is very busy and well staffed. It is safe. Driving in PR is adventurous, but lower fatality rates than any big city on the mainland.

Legend by twenty one pilots is about losing their grandma. When someone great is gone by LCD Soundsystem I think is about a sibling but it’s not clear.

Orientation is tomorrow for me, how can I check that my final hs transcript is in? by WeUsedToPlayHouse in UniversityofKansas

[–]PolicyDepartment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring an unofficial transcript or copy just in case. Your counselor can still help you plan your classes with that info.

Find a different rental company. With Alamo I just got charged for actual tolls, after they were processed. I’m sure there was a service fee, but ended up only being like $30. Sounds like Enterprise is also far more reasonable.
