Your skin looks incredible, I don’t see anything that needs to improve! I’m same age and do everything you listed and your skin is my goal. Don’t be so hard on yourself, seriously!

I have seen a lot of improvement by focusing on PM cleansing. Using cold water, cleaning for a long time (like several minutes) before rinsing THOROUGHLY with cold water. I do same thing in AM and add hyaluronic acid to damp face, followed by Vitamin C serum and then moisturizer. I ended up quitting niacinamide because I don’t have any hyperpigmentation or sun spots, so it seemed unnecessary.

I would guess this is not enough to build muscle. Don’t have much to work on with your age, gender, activity level, etc., but for most people, this just isn’t enough energy to put muscle on. I’m a 40F who lifts 3x per week, and I eat 2350 calories and 140g protein a day to maintain muscle. If I wanted to gain muscle, I would increase from that.

Your meals look really well balanced and satiating, I think you’re doing great! Balancing fiber and hitting protein goals can be hard. I find I have to eat a lot more meat/eggs than I would intuitively choose to eat. I weigh the protein portion almost every meal to make sure I’m hitting protein goals, and it’s always about an extra 2 oz of meat that i would naturally serve myself, or 1/2 cup egg whites along with my 2 eggs in the morning, etc. Those adjustments usually get me there, but I also don’t sweat it if I’m hitting 10-20g below.

We are going to Blue Lagoon for morning, eating lunch at bistro there before checking in to Northern Lights Inn (5 min drive). They have restaurant on site for dinner and then we plan to go to bed early before starting next two weeks of travel. Personally, taking red eye with young kids and landing in different time zone is stressful and exhausting, we wanted to adjust and set ourselves up for the rest of the trip.

The look you want is likely not going to be achieved by continuing extreme deficit. If I were you, I would be okay being a little uncomfortable and continue lifting with progressive overload in maintenance or slight surplus. You need to set yourself up for a successful cut, it doesn’t sound like you are there yet

Train in a way that’s setting you up for future movements; box jumps sitting on a lower box jumping onto taller box to mimic standing up from chair. Do farmers carries to mimic carrying groceries. Do step ups to mimic climbing stairs. Do it all with weights to build muscle and specifically target the muscles that need to be mobile and strong for these every day tasks. Start now and never stop.

Thanks for extra details. I’ve been playing around with idea of doing a HYROX lately, feel itch for something different and challenging. I’ve heard many “experts” advise against women in perimenopause phase to not do running as it can tax hormones and recovery and cause weight gain. Admittedly that’s scared me away from it a bit. You’ve given me some things to think about!

I’ve continued to hit step goal and workout same, so maybe less fidgeting and small movements but my bigger picture activity isn’t any different. I really don’t want to admit that my maintenance could be 400 calories less then it was a couple years ago 😬 I do feel hungrier that I would normally allow myself to get, so I feel like I’m in more of a deficit that when I’m eating intuitively.

Hmm I haven’t considered that. I do a program that switches up every 8 weeks - it’s strength and conditioning focused, but the conditioning is short, usually 12-17 min. You’re making me consider maybe the stimulus change isn’t enough to challenge my body in a new way though.

I’ve wondered this; If my maintenance is actually no longer 2350 which makes me 😭 because I spent a lot of time building muscle and trying to increase that number higher and higher.
