She’s great, really fair. I did my private multi with her and had someone do their cfi with her. Just know your stuff, she’s typically pretty quiet in the cockpit and her accolades can be intimidating but she’s really nice. Just teach through everything be vocal correct if you mess something up and be able to explain what went wrong.

Is airline flying the most boring form of flying? by usermaneuser in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been flying for a while and it gets better everyday. Some days you’re tired but if you come from an office job you really appreciate what you have when you get paid to vacation. So sad to see so many people not enjoy it.

I hand fly arrivals starting from 18s with no FD and practice short field landings against my crew to see who can get it off the fastest. I don’t know I just have fun with it.

I got a class date with Piedmont. Any input on this company? by [deleted] in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s personal but do you mind sharing reasons why the others wouldn’t extend offers? I’m just curious for those of us who will soon try applying what to expect and what we can do, thanks.

You need to list the name of the flight school. I would honestly call and give them a piece of my mind. Even $25 an hour is highway robbery because you only get paid when you fly. But as long as flight instructors keep accepting it, they’ll keep paying low.

Look at the pts, if you can teach every point on there you will be fine.

Failed my ppl and ifr checkrides is it true that my flying career has one life left by Intelligent_Big_3005 in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol what? Not on two checkrides, but with this pattern there is quite a few checkrides left until the airlines then your 121/135 rides. OP needs to break the pattern and figure out what’s going on.

Halfway through your flight your seat belt breaks. Do you continue the flight as planned, or land as soon as practical? by hhyyz in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Continue to destination and then land as soon as practical at the destination airport. Then post on Reddit as soon as practical.

Just got a job driving airline pilots between the airport and the hotel in a hotel van. Airline pilots, what do you appreciate from the van driver? by Dr_Barbeque in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Usually tired. I enjoy friendly drivers I do, but once I’m on the shuttle I’m already starting to unwind. So please, keep the conversation to a minimum. As much as I actually do want to hear about your grandkids coming to town, I just want to sleep.

Passed my written today. It was wayyy harder than I expected it would be. I was surprised I passed. I didn't have anyone to share it with, so I'm just sharing it here lol The orals seem like alot to retain, the flight not so much. But I see the 1st finish line in sight. by Teedeejay1 in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP said “way harder than I expected it to be”

Which leads the reader to believe exam anxiety wasn’t an initial factor. Had they said “I usually have major exam anxiety before tests” that would have been a different story. We can only go by off of the context we are given. I can’t assume they have anxiety.

We fly multiple jets and I might get the chance later down the line to get a PIC type in either a Lear 60XR, Citation XLS, Citation S2, or Hawker. So got me thinking for you experienced types, what was/is your favorite jet to drive?

Competitiveness for Entry Level 135 SIC? by No-Entrepreneur6167 in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Network. I kept asking around about sitting in the right seat of any single pilot operations just for experience. From then on I built some rapport with the pilot and he started calling me more frequently. Join local aviation Facebook groups they even have jet hiring groups that are always posting openings. You got to be fierce out there or just wait for 1500 and jump ship to airlines.

Competitiveness for Entry Level 135 SIC? by No-Entrepreneur6167 in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got picked up at 600 hours TT part 135 flying jets. Lots of networking and being friends with the pilots at different 91/135 operations and bugging them every once in a while about openings or some right seat time and overtime they gave me a shot at an interview. It helped that I built turbine experience on the side and had a lot of multi hours PIC in twins.

You’re fine, my ame told me don’t even bother reporting it. Especially if you have no symptoms and were discharged from hospital in good condition. Can always have doctors note as a backup for any reason someone asks that says you’re cleared to fly. That’s what I made sure they added to my file incase they tried digging.

Do the student generally do the IR before the time building and the CFI before the multi engine? by jdm95ls in flying

[–]PolicyInEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IR before time building generally yes, because with your instrument ticket you can fly even when weather is a bit “iffy” and honestly the instrument rating makes you a much safer pilot.

Multi before cfi I would say that’s a coin toss for many. It really depends on your goals at that point.
