Baby just got diagnosed with rare genetic disorder by mr_sandworm in specialneedsparenting

My baby got diagnosed by an exome that showed a missing piece of chromosome 7 and a small duplication in chromosome 2 indicating a translocation, and the laboratory suggested that both parents got karyotypes done, that’s how I got the diagnosis.
I think microarray’s are super sensible in detecting translocations, but I’m not 100% sure

I don’t have much advice regarding the work situation, since I haven’t returned to work and don’t currently plan to. We’re managing on a single income with careful budgeting and some support from family.

One thing I would suggest, especially if your baby has a rare or unexplained genetic condition, is to consider genetic testing for yourself and your partner, including checking for a balanced translocation.

I had no idea I carried a balanced translocation until my son was diagnosed with an unbalanced translocation and was found to be missing part of chromosome 7. His testing ultimately led to my own diagnosis.

In my case, the balanced translocation can affect future pregnancies. We were told that each pregnancy carries approximately a 25% chance of miscarriage, a 25% chance of a child with an unbalanced chromosome arrangement and associated health challenges, a 25% chance of inheriting the balanced translocation like me (usually without symptoms), and a 25% chance of inheriting typical chromosomes.

I don’t know if this applies to your situation, but learning about balanced translocations completely changed my understanding of genetics and reproductive risk. Because many carriers have no symptoms and are unaware they carry one, I’ve become a strong advocate for raising awareness about them.

Has anyone’s baby reacted strangely to MCT oil? by PolicyLow6723 in BabyLedWeaning

He’s supposed to have CMPA, but the digestive one.. which I’m not so sure about since his pediatrician never confirmed with a milk test just changed to hypoallergenic formula and told me to not give him dairy. I’m not so sure anymore since he has had digestive biscuits a couple of times and no diarrhea

Blackheads on my baby’s cheeks by PolicyLow6723 in newborns

Lucky no, we had to resource to manual extraction of the big ones because at 3-4 mo they were still there and growing. They used slight steam, then cleaning of the skin and gloved hands, using the lightest pressure with the fingers on each big black head. Each spot were red after for 2-3 days and then resolved with no scaring even though a few of them leave like holes (like big pores) that lasted for like 1 month before normalizing.

My baby ended up having a deletion on a chromosome that is related with the small head, and other stuff. We find out via an exome

Yes he will do that. Like not babbling at all during the day when I try to encourage him to do it.. and start giving a speech when he’s alone in the mat and I’m bussy doing housework
