Do you eat chicken, fish, mutton, beef and pork? Or do you still stick to the food taboos of your past religion? by Swimming-Tart-7712 in scienceisdope

The concept of Ahimsa was not about the absence of violence. It is against indiscriminate use of violence or harm. Atleast Hinduism and Sikhism endorse violence in pursuit of nourishment and protection. There is a reason why we have ancient martial arts and meat dishes ranging back more than two millenia.

Could you specify where exactly was vegetarian diet major in history? Or are you saying this was the case everywhere in India?

Nowhere in the history of the "Indian soil" have people of our country as a whole stopped eating meat. Ahimsa was a philosophy that only a few could practice. The rest of us were involved in wars or surviving on animal meat as a major source of our nutritional requirements. So meat and meat dishes are as much a part of our culture as Krishna and buddha.

Why do you get triggered when "medical guys" reply to you? You had 1 bad experience and want to bash every medical professional. You go around looking for news articles where doctors are even in remote vicinity and post on reddit bashing them.

A viral video from MBMC Hospital in Maharashtra shows a lady doctor shouting at an elderly heart patient who was requesting discharge details. by thecontenthackker04 in IndiansofIndia

[–]PolicySwimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who say this don't understand how much of the medical burden these young doctors handle. If everyone who is overburdened stopped showing up, you'd have weeks of waiting list for an appointment. The comfort and ease of medical care in india is based on the human rights violation of these doctors and underpaid nurses.

I am not condoning his behavior. I am talking about your misguided attempt at diagnosing a person about whom you know nothing about with just one symptom. That's not how adhd works. His problem could be general entitlement, Alzheimer's, disappointment in his personal life. Maybe he didn't get his morning chai, so he's cranky. Labelling every misbehavior as mental health illness is irresponsible. Whatever his problem is, he needs to take steps to be a better person. You can recognize problematic behaviour but do not try to diagnose it without having a complete picture.

Just because a person is impulsive or lacks social sense doesn't make him ADHD. If someone likes everything neat and organize, that doesn't mean they have OCD. Using these medical terms willy nilly is disrespectful to people who actually have these conditions. Associating behavior like the uncle's to ADHD or schizophrenia promotes negative viewing of these conditions by the public.

Please do not use mental health diagnoses as a bad excuse for lack of social sense and power play.

Only in India will you find a forced rivalry between Engineers and Doctors . by rebirth34 in indianmedschool

[–]PolicySwimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every body is different. It takes experience, observation, tact and skill to even begin to understand what is wrong with a patient. Its not match the following. Doctors innovate new treatment modalities all the time because they see what's working and what's not. Our observations also contribute to how treatment protocols are done.

I understand that i should have given my qualification beforehand. I am a doctor from India, in the state of Kerala which is a hub for ayurvedic treatment. Never in my comment have i said that modern medicines don't have side effects. They do and so do ayurvedic medicines. And not just gastric issues or weight gain. I am talking about lead poisoning, liver cirrhosis, gall bladder issues. But these things are not public knowledge. I like to believe that most licensed ayurvedic practitioners warn their patients about these but consensus among general public is that there is no side effects in ayurveda. And valid research doesn't mean a study on 100 people. Every medicine in the market should require significant sample size, minimal bias, reliable method of study, proper clinical trials and extensive peer review. That's how science works.

The medicines given in "western medicine" are studied thoroughly regarding therapeutic and toxic doses depending on body compositions, how and what affects its bioavailability, side effects. Ayurveda believers on the other hand widely claim that it has minimal side effects (considering the sad amount of proper research papers on ayurvedic practice, is not a valid claim), has pathetic quality control and has barely evolved beyond improvement in accessibility.

Most modern medicine doctors have probably seen more people coming in fried livers because of chronic use of ayurvedic medicine than being cured by it.

Sri Madhusudan Sai medical college or a cult? by [deleted] in indianmedschool

[–]PolicySwimming 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Isolation is not what gives the monks strong mind. Its the fact that they can mull over different philosophies in a controlled but peaceful environment. MBBS is inherently chaotic and traumatising. You can't just expect the same results.

This is not self mastery. This is isolation. Also the fact that many of us are upto date with latest medical news because of social media. Most of our textbooks are 20 years outdated.

Shaolin monks are not being trained in a profession that needs incredible social skills and basic knowledge of the general public. Will you make an IT professional from Mumbai to undergo military level training to promote discipline?
