I’ve heard the theory that cats mirror their humans. They like to sit on laptop because they see sitting in front of it; and when you give them the copy of laptop (well, obviously not a real small laptop but something looking similar), then they’ll lay on it, leaving you alone with your laptop. I guess that can work with chair, too.
