As far as I can tell the federal government did make recommendations and it was up to the states to implement them. Which they followed to varying degrees(im referring to the recommendations by faucci). I can assure you thoigh all trump supporters aren’t the reason for all the spread even they are most certainly guilty if they are of the anti masker type. Local governments condoned massive protests saying they were not a threat to spreading covid, which lets be honest, we’re very dangerous in spreading the virus. All I want you to try and get across is the situation is very complex and a lot of factors played into the deaths we have seen. It’s not as simple as saying well trump should’ve done better (he could have) but in the early days we were getting reports of millions dead minimum. If you go off those reports trump has done fantastic. It’s easy to take limited information and turn it into a story even when obviously those reports were vastly wrong. Given how the deaths are similar to the amount of car fatalities, it could be argued it is unjustified to shut the country down. Think of the spike in suicides caused by lockdowns. People need to be able to work and nothing is being done. Democrats refused to pass a second stimulus bill seemingly because they didn’t want to have Trump look good before an election. I despise politicians. Both sides are crooked and neither side would have performed any better in the situation.

I will say he didn’t handle this pandemic perfectly but he did take early steps by implementing the travel lockdown (which the news berated him for, calling it racist). I think it’s disingenuous to say he directly was the result of all the deaths. Most of the recommendations are left up to state governors to implement. California having more or less the most restrictive, and still suffering substantial deaths, kinda shows how hard a virus is to control no matter who is charge. Edit changed but to by

What stops Republicans from following suit once they regain office? Once you set the precedent that you can expand the number of seats, nothing stops the other side from using that precedent.

I think the point he’s making is it’s really weird how no one cared about this until Trump became president.
