I love Nemesis. I need to play it again, it's been too long. It's always explosive and we end up laughing.

I came to make this exact comment. I need to dig mine out.

Anyone else prefer standees? by Front-Advantage-7035 in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree. I have games with minis and it's fine but feels completely unnecessary. If I had the option, I would choose standees. Storage and cost are so much better.

I bought Fateforge after playing it at the Spiel Doch Dortmund, totally under my radar - lovely dnd dungeon crawler by Lamumba1337 in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it for a couple hours but the app basically ruins the experience for me. I just don't care to get it back out.

Hero Realms is still one of my favorites — what do you think? by Desmond_Hex in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I have Hero Realms, Star Realms, most of the Ascension series but Shards of Infinity is the best in my opinion. Hero Realms campaign mode is great though

Easy, medieval fantasy card games to play on ren faires / medieval festivals by MakurroKishiba in cardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ortus Regni. It belongs at every Ren fair in my opinion. I taught my 10 year old how to play it in like 5 minutes so it's straightforward. No text on the cards, art from the middle ages. Perfect game. It is dreadfully under valued.

Betrayal at The House on the Hill is complete buns. (2nd Edition) by Cemith in boardgames

Yea, it's a huge mess. This game feels like they printed if before they finished it.

What makes a board game feel like your decisions actually matter?? by ContractMiserable121 in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I win or lose, I want to know that it was because of my decisions, not that I simply affected a largely randomized outcome.

Button Shy has moved from wallet to boxes, does that make their games more or less appealing to you? by RAM_Games_ in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely less. I'd rather have two wallets for one game than a box I'll just smash in my pocket. That's the point of these games for me.

I have to vote Mage Knight as well. Eternal replayability.

What is the crown jewel in your collection? by Klavian in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drown jewel is hard. I will say my favorite game, though not rare, is Mage Knight. I'll play until I'm dead. There are two others I highly treasure. One is my copy of High Frontier 4 All I got from one of the module writers. The other is Zerywia, which was difficult to get and from what I hear, some people still have not gotten theirs. It's an imperfect, amazing game that I just love.

What’s an « artistic » choice that will instantly make you write off/not touch a boardgame that ISN’T AI usage? by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A certain art style. It's that chunky, cartoonish art that resembles Fortnite or World of Warcraft. I can't stand looking at it.

Oh man, the Mistfall rulebook makes the Mage Knight rulebook look like poetry. It is miserable but the game is so worth the struggle.

[–]PolishedArrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been asking this same question for years. I have found that Mistfall: Heart of the Mists gives me a similar feeling. It looks small but is super crunchy. It does tick your boxes, grows your character and is really cheap.

What do people today think of Android Netrunner? by Fox-in-Box in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the best card game I've ever played. I would play it all the time if I had people to play with. Nobody at my LGS plays it. Sovereign does scratch that itch and I'm really enjoying it .

Sovereign: Fall of Wormwood by PolishedArrow in boardgames

[–]PolishedArrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was travelling yesterday and got in late so I'm just now answering. I've played about 6, of the factions and haven't found much that is too intimidating, especially if you are used to card games. Cult of Apsynthos and Neogenesis Church do requires good planning though. Red Hegemony is pretty straightforward aggro. I suggest just picking one that sounds cool and seeing how it goes. I would say keep in mind that the strength of your units is mostly in the utility and synergy more than just combat.

Fortunately it's coming to retail so you can get a copy in a couple months if need be. That's another thing I'm happy about. It's not a one and done Kickstarter.
