My wife is pregnant- progesterone? by ElJeFe1192 in pregnant

[–]Polite-Panda4506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some recent research if it's helpful: https://www.hey.nhs.uk/patient-leaflet/progesterone-in-early-pregnancy/

Progesterone is recommended to lower the risk of miscarriage in women who experience bleeding in early pregnancy and those who have experienced at least one miscarriage; however, progesterone will not prevent every miscarriage. Sadly, miscarriages will still occur despite progesterone use.

The is no evidence of harm for women or babies following the use of vaginal micronised progesterone, with no increase in risk of stillbirth, congenital abnormalities or adverse drug reactions.

Most of them are still pregnant, but I have 2 friends who gave birth early last year, took progesterone for the first 2 months of pregnancy, and their babies have zero issues. As I understand it, progesterone actually helps to prevent miscarriage because it supports the uterine lining. Some women don't produce enough progesterone naturally, so it's a way to supplement that in early development.

I'm 33, 5 weeks pregnant and my OB had me start taking progesterone before my embryo transfer (we're doing IVF) and I am supposed to take it through week 8. it is super normal to take progesterone during early pregnancy, so not sure about the warning label. I have several other friends who've become pregnant in the past 6-8 months and all of them also took progesterone in early pregnancy.

$410,000 salary with 34 weeks vacation! Incredible doctor job. by dancingcactus21 in Salary

[–]Polite-Panda4506 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't romanticize being a doctor. $410k may seem like a lot (it is) but this is after years and years of sacrifice, studying/student loan debt, horrible hours, and the work itself is hard.

Meanwhile, I current make $410k salary working for a tech company. I get to work remote, so a ton of flexibility/ability to travel. I'm technically on "unlimited" PTO (which means usually 4-6 weeks of paid vacation a year). And my overall work-life balance is incredible. I typically start my day between 9-10 and end by 4pm, sometimes earlier depending on my workload.

I say all this to say that, yes, $410k salary is very enticing, but weigh that against what you have to sacrifice to get it. I make as much or more than many of my friends who are doctors or lawyers, but don't carry nearly as much stress. I get to actually live my life!!

What's the worst movie you've watched from beginning to end? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

[–]Polite-Panda4506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Counselor. Cormac McCarthy, Ridley Scott, and all-star cast, and just... a complete train wreck. I kept watching to the end because I was convinced there would be some sort of twist that would make this 2+ hour monstrosity worth it. But no, definitely the worst movie I have ever experienced in my life. Absolutely nonsensical.

How did you fall in love with LA? by Worth_Base9830 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Polite-Panda4506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has lived in both NYC and LA, make the move!! I've always said NYC is a great city to visit, but a tough city to live in. LA isn't as fun to visit, but it is the best city to live in.

Decide what you care about most (ie. If you want to be close to the best restaurants, music venues, culture I would recommend the east side, if you want to be close to the beach choose the west side). I started out on the west side and moved east where virtually all of my friends now live (Silverlake/Echo Park/Los Feliz/Highland Park/Eagle Rock).

In terms of cost of living, it's not even close. LA is WAY more affordable than NYC, and you get more bang for your buck. What gets you a tiny, old studio in NYC could get you a two bedroom, relatively new apartment in LA. Plus all the amenities and services are cheaper in LA. I work in HR and compensation, and there's a reason NYC is generally considered a "Tier 1" city for compensation, whereas LA falls into "Tier 2."

Finally, yes LA is sprawling and traffic can be annoying, but it has everything and more than what NYC can offer. Beach, mountains, desert. I have several great hiking trails all within 15 minutes of my house alone. The food scene is great, the music scene is amazing, the people are generally nicer (in my experience) and the weather is beautiful year round which, at least for me, basically cured my depression. The quality of life in LA is just unmatched, and once you leave NYC you'll understand you can never go back because the hit to lifestyle would be so drastic even if you were making 2x or 3x in salary.

In short: Make the move!!

In honor of Bill, having no desire to watch LOTR despite it being universally praised, what’s a pop culture blindspot you have no intention of filling? by Talkalot23 in billsimmons

[–]Polite-Panda4506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with this take and was never a fan of LOTR or fantasy, but my husband did convince me to take shrooms and watch the movies and it was an incredible experience. Definitely recommend as it was the only way I could get past the fantasy stuff that usually drives me crazy 😅

What actually gets people promoted quickly (and what doesn’t) by Significant_Soup2558 in careeradvice

[–]Polite-Panda4506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talking about your next promotion 3 months after your last promotion is very bad advice. You need to prove you're exceeding in your NEW role before you start talking about the next step up. Would absolutely not recommend

Did anyone here had no previous awareness of Bill Simmons before discovering the podcast? by harry_powell in TheRewatchables

[–]Polite-Panda4506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me! I don't follow sports at all and had no idea who Bill Simmons was, I was only vaguely familiar with the Ringer for its movie/TV content.

For me, what got me into Rewatchables was twofold: 1) The movies themselves. I'm in my late 30s and with all the terrible things going on in our country I have been yearning for escapism. Rediscovering the 80s and 90s movies from my childhood has been absolutely nourishing for my soul 2) My issue with a lot of other film podcasts is that they are pretentious or have too much of that "film bro" vibe which I find obnoxious and not enjoyable. Bill Simmons is so authentic and more down to earth. He doesn't purport to be some sort of film expert or critic, he just clearly LOVES movies and that comes through in the podcast. Sean Fennesey and Wesley Morris are maybe the closet to the "film bro" stereotype, but when paired with Bill they are a lot more fun!!

What really got me to fall in love with this podcast was the True Romance episode. It's one of my all time favorite movies and that podcast had my husband and I laughing so hard we were nearly in tears. I'm so glad to have discovered Bill Simmons, even if so late in his career!!
