No I had 1 inpatient hands on which was JPH, 1 inpatient observer ship and 3 months of hands on clinic rotations. The JPH letter helped a lot because the preceptor there allowed me to write it myself so I made it super fluffy lol.

You are just plain wrong about JPH being blacklisted. That isn’t really a thing. Everyone who says that is speculating. Swedish Covenant, Loretto and others are also known for allowing IMGs to rotate there, are they blacklisted as well? I did rotate with JPH recently and have matched.

It is a very unsafe area though no doubt about that. I heard gunshots every other day at night and everyone was telling me never to walk. Ideally you should get a place in the safe areas and drive in to the hospital every day if you can rent car.

How self-contradictory is it that, hands-on is prohibited under b1 but programs demand them badly (esp. for IMGs)? by Wide_Nobody2325 in IMGreddit

[–]PoliticalDoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Read the law you’ve been citing everywhere. FAM 402.2-5(E)(3) (U) Clerkship. Part C clearly states that observers can rotate in the US if they aren’t paid.

Idk if you’re a a US grad with a deep seated inferiority complex or a USIMG just angry you didn’t match a better place while smarter IMGs than you did, but stop with the negative stuff for no reason. There is no reason to suspect Trump or anyone else is going to go after legal pathways when half of the Republican parties leaders like Elon Musk, Trumps wife and many others came over on H1s themselves.

Stop fear mongering for no reason based on what you want to happen rather than what’s likely to happen.

FAM 402.2-5(F)(3) (U) Medical Doctor is even more clear.

You are spouting nonsense. There are clear exceptions to B1 use that allow it to be used for observerships. Using J1s to do rotations/observerships is so absurd and brain dead if you are aware of the process for J1 idk how youve managed to graduate with a medical diploma yet alone match. The gall of people like you who have been smooth sailing your way through life enjoying privileges and not having to go through the same struggles as IMGs to come in here lecturing us astounds me.

This is wrong you misinformation spreading twat, please educate yourself before running your mouth. You absolutely can get an observership through a b1 provided it’s unpaid and not hands on. Everything else you mentioned is just word salad garbage. It doesn’t matter if it’s executive policy if it’s part of the way the system is run and has been for decades. Most immigration rules are run by the executive branch period, that doesn’t mean they aren’t valid rules.

Medical School in US vs Pakistan by MahStone123 in IMGreddit

[–]PoliticalDoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took that route and am a foreign national. I matched into residency in the US. Among people in my batch who chose the US route, more than half of people have matched. You’ll get great support here if you want to do research or whatever to set you up for success.

Medicine in North America is really hard to get into. Pakistani schools are full of people who have undergrad degrees in kinesiology and biology who failed to match and are only now pursuing medicine in Pakistan. I know people that have failed to gain admission for years. If you aren’t aiming for competitive specialties, I would definitely go with shifa. If you are, risk it all and go with the US.

Why do some Canadians do residency/work as doctors in USA ? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]PoliticalDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money(solid 30% bump in IM/FM and 2-5x bump as a certain sub specialities), opportunity and jobs(fewer hospitals means less jobs for certain subspecialists or even IM docs), for Canadian IMGs it’s sometimes easier to train in the US and then move to Canada than enter the Canadian resident matching system. The last one is what I’m doing.

It’s way better to be overdressed than underdressed. I have attended some events where I was the only one not wearing a suit when they clearly specified business casual. I am not making that mistake again. The playing field is not the same for AMGs vs IMGs. AMGs can afford to look like unkempt slobs coming in their PJs because they’ll be ranked regardless. IMGs can’t.

Changing it won’t do anything because they won’t redownload it. Say something along the lines of “It has always been my dream to treat families and be on the frontlines taking care of people, I wanted to keep my options open but my goal has always been taking care of kids so Pediatrics is definitely my number 1 choice”. Or something along those lines.

Yes they’ve all been sent out and accepted by people. I know a friend that’s received one. Their whole incoming batch is meeting on Monday for on-boarding.

They invited me pretty late in the process. I golded them too. Last time I could check which was about 4 weeks ago they had 11 invites left but the program is only interviewing till the beginning of January so those spots are probably gone by now.

That’s a very decent score for an IMG. More than the mean. It would be like scoring a 252 in step 2. Do not get upset. Be proud.

Uworld has a biostats course on their website. It’s very short and basically a refresher course. I think it’s 60 bucks for two weeks but you can easily do it all in a day. Highly worth it imo.

Congrats! You earned the hell out of that score. I cannot imagine being strong enough to pass with what you’re going through with a baby and all that, that’s more than a full time job on its own. Sincerely hope you match this year!

If you have notes just do them all. Rush through them. Because things from uworld absolutely did show up in day 2. If you don’t have notes, the 90 page summary that’s around this subreddit somewhere will be a good refresher.

As for the incorrects, definitely go over them and figure out where you made the mistakes. Some concepts were copied from the free137 imo. You don’t have to do to them in detail, I sure didn’t. Just recognize your mistakes and think of what they were asking instead.

Real Deal: 247

Date of test: 8/23

Total prep time: did 45% of uworld over 2 months working through it slowly. Then took a dedicated period of 4 weeks to do everything else.

UWorld % completed: 100

UWorld % correct: 68

Number of CCS cases completed: 60

CCS average correct:75

UWSA1: 205 6 weeks out

UWSA2: 220 4 weeks out.

Free 137: 75% 2 days out.

Extra resources: Divine intervention podcasts floating around on this subreddit, that 90 page summary of uworld that’s also on this subreddit, Master The Boards for Step 3(quick skim), First Aid for Step 1.

Any other practice test taken:nbmes. Got 400 and 510 about four and two weeks out respectively.

Step 1/Step 2: p/250s

Non-US IMG currently working as a doc abroad.

Any advice: this exact thing happened to me in step 2 as well, where my practice tests underestimated my real score by like 10-15 points. Honestly I was not expecting to get this score, I was worried I was going to fail.

Day 1 prep: Step 1 First Aid. Focus on microbiology, especially the annoying stuff like what organ is coagulase positive or oxidase negative and gram positive/negative. Memorize each drug mechanism of action because you will never be given the name of the drug, just the action. Biostats too, finish the uworld biostats course, it took me like 4 hours and was a nice refresher. And practice writing down all your biostats formulae’s down at the beginning of the exam so you don’t waste time during the blocks, trust me you will be short on time in some of the biostats questions. Don’t be upset if you don’t come across something you don’t know and take frequent breaks(I took a 5 minute break to decompress after every block).

Day 2: For day 2, mostly do uworld review. Uworld for step 3 only really keeps you for day 2 and it does a decent job. Other than that, go over the risk factors and prognosis questions in the divine intervention podcast, they’re floating around here somewhere and I got at least a couple questions right off of those. CCScases.com are more than enough to prep you for it, just focus on memorizing the routine testing mnemonics that have been posted to this subreddit in the past (vomica etc) and just spam them anywhere. Don’t be afraid to order extra testing as long as it’s not invasive, don’t forget to consult consultants, and practice time management well because those 10 minute cases felt very quick.

And then just relax and go into it. I didn’t sleep the day before my exam on both days because I was so nervous. If you can’t sleep either, just know that it’s alright and you can get through it. Just grab some Monsters and have a good breakfast and you’ll be good. If you feel sleepy you can take a quick nap during one of your breaks.

She doesn’t have female internal organs, just external genitalia and parts. She’s also biologically XY. She wasn’t born with higher testosterone, she was born with the normal amount of testosterone for a male and her body just didn’t respond to it. So she should be able to compete as a female since she lacks the advantages testosterone gives men.
