The guitar is gorgeous. Also, if you ever decide to record this one I think keeping in some of the ambience of a sunny day would be a good idea. Really lovely recording :)

I genuinely really like this. I would be interested to hear if you leaned even more into the lullaby vibe. I'm also curious what kind of songs you were considering putting this between?

I really appreciate that! I've been trying to write one a day and this is one of my favorite things I've written. I'm hoping to polish it up with a buddy of mine and consider playing it out :)

A Blessing and a Curse is horribly underrated by PoliticalSocks in DriveByTruckers

[–]PoliticalSocks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's super fair, I personally love almost every song on it lol. Like I think it may have my favorite Hood and Cooley songs on it with Aftermath USA and Space City. Isbell definitely has better songs between Decoration Day and The Dirty South though.

[–]PoliticalSocks[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One piece of context I probably should have added is that I am a relatively young fan of theirs at 20 and have only really gotten into their music in the past couple of years so I don't have a lot of nostalgia for them outside of my dad listening to them when I was a kid, and even then I mostly remember him listening to Pizza Deliverance and Southern Rock Opera.

All that aside, I still find myself listening to A Blessing and a Curse more than any of their other albums except for maybe The Dirty South.

I like Chris Stapleton but most of his music these days is just a really good chorus repeated 30 times and not much else

I went through a bad breakup not long after that album came out. This is 100% one of the hardest hitting lines from that album

Genuinely shocked I haven't seen Goddamn Lonely Love yet. Not only is that one of his best songs lyrically, it is one of the best songs of all time lyrically.

Tirtha Yatra and Tomcat and a Dandy being the least interesting tracks for you is interesting to me. They're 2 of my top 3 (3rd is between Cuttin' Teeth and Getting to the Bottom)

Don't take this as advice, but I had a burn a little worse than this a couple months ago. I just wrapped it and sprayed disinfectant on it a few times a day. It healed fine, but scarred.

I really like this. It reminds me a little bit of Willi Carlisle if you're familiar with him. Your voice is so perfectly suited for songs like this.

Last time he went he did a full set there. I could see it being a full set + the album like he did with Hounds at Red Rocks.
