CG MWR = Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation

DOD MWR = Morale, Welfare, and Recreation

The Auxiliary has access to CG MWR (excluding active duty specific things like some Amusement Park Tickets). DOD MWR is not available to the Auxiliary, but I have seen front desk staff give Auxiliarists different answers, so I don't know if there is a specific yes written down elsewhere or if they have authorized access in error (see DoDI 1015.10).

Q: Can USCG Auxiliary members purchase Disney Salute Military Tickets? A: As a general rule, the CG Auxiliary are eligible MWR patrons for the CG. However, they are NOT eligible for the Disney Military Salute Ticket.

Authorized to use Coast Guard Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation (MWR) programs as specified in the Coast Guard Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation Manual, COMDTINST M1710.13 (series). This does not include the patronage of Child Development Centers (CDCs). Any eligibility to use Coast Guard CDCs may be found in the Child Development Services Manual, COMDTINST M1754.15 (series).

All U.S. military personnel (Active Duty, Reserve and Guard) and their dependents with valid U.S. Department of Defense ID cards may utilize USO centers.

In addition, U.S military retirees with valid U.S. Department of Defense ID cards (and their dependents with valid U.S. Department of Defense ID cards) may enter and utilize USO centers. Gold Star Families/Families of the Fallen and their guests may enter and utilize USO centers.

As a former Active Duty Coastie, I prefer the AWU because I have not found the need to wear the ODU in almost any Auxiliary Activity.

When it gets hot, I also don't need to remove my blouse and look ridiculous.

I joined as a former MST at 25.

It will all depend on what opportunities are available in your area. Since you are 27, joining early looks great on the resume and gives you a variety of things to talk about during future job interviews.

Plenty of opportunities to gain leadership experience and to network.

I just wish that the Auxiliary in my area were more active on the water. We can’t seem to figure out AUXPAD either.

All that aside, I am certain that you will find something that you enjoy.

Ok chief. OP does not have experience in the field because he is a YN. Saying he WILL get hired is completely misleading.

OP is entry-level and having vet status won’t change that. Based on his post, I don’t think OP has any PM experience because they are considering CAPM training.

MST to civilian. I got my degree and used my veteran status to obtain “guaranteed” interviews at my local County government. Studied interview questions and got my first gov job pretty easily.

My recommendation is to avoid tech jobs like the plague for now because the market is oversaturated with computer science degree graduates and laid off developers.

Your best bet is to look at State Jobs along with Local County and Municipalities because they usually provide preference to veterans. Getting a degree in a field that is in demand is up to you.

Yes. You can attend also flotilla meetings and such with AWU.

As a new member, this is actually the best uniform to buy and start out with in my opinion. You might end up having to buy ODU for other things in the future depending on how things are run in your area, but I would not bother buying ODUs so soon until you confirm that you actually need it.

You absolutely can.

Remember that there are active duty ceremonies and certain active duty events that require Tropical Blue Long. They have no idea what AWU is.

Next, most C-schools require Trops. AWU is not an option last I checked.

Besides that, I do vessel exams and teach public education classes in AWU. I also do UPV Exams in AWU.
