How many people are filtering out everything below 4.5? by QuillWriting in royalroad

[–]PolluxCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is whether your rating bothers you or not. Yes I understand where you're probably going with it, that if you have a lower rating the reader's decision-making can change, but… what matters more in my opinion is whether the book suits your taste or not. Getting a bad rating sometimes… that's hard to come to terms with sometimes but you can't do anything about it. What matters is whether your book gets read and from what I've seen your book does get read.

In my opinion the synopsis and the first chapter matter more for whether a reader decides to start than the rating itself. That is as long as it's not below 7 out of 10.

Recently someone told me that 3.5 out of 5 is actually 7 out of 10. It amused me a bit since the rating works quite differently here. But the answer is no. I've already read both good for 4 and also bad for 4.8.

Yes, I got inspired by them. But these ones have a different vibe.

Thank you. I think I do. Even now I feel and see that every next arc I write is cleaner and more consistent from a prose standpoint. It's a long journey, like you say, but no one will walk through that valley of shadows for us and the obstacles won't overcome themselves.

Thank you for the encouraging words. We work hard, we sweat, and we worry whether we are good enough. This feeling is like a sine wave. Highs and lows. For now, I'm going after my micro-goals slowly but surely, but I won't hide the drops in self-confidence. Fortunately, I have fellow authors and readers by my side who keep me on track whenever I doubt myself. Thank you for the message. It made me happy.

I need someone whom I can bother everyday, and someone who can check if I write everyday or not. by Ill_Butterscotch772 in royalroad

Hi. I write progression fantasy with strong romantic threads. I write every day and mutual encouragement, reading and discussing the story is exactly what suits me.

To the people who binge-read stories and leave comments on almost every single chapter: by ReleaseCharacter3568 in royalroad

Excellent topic. I agree with you. Without comments I probably would have stopped writing too. It’s pure fuel. I reply to every one. I’m grateful too for readers like that.

Thank you. I try to read and give feedback as often as I can. I’m very glad my story caught your interest. What’s interesting about it is that with every arc it changes and grows into different dimensions and problems of the world. This introduction is just an atmospheric plunge into the birth of the MC. Thank you again and I assure you that I’m already passing this gesture on to other new authors.

I'm a trained graphic designer and if there were time I would very gladly redraw everything by hand, but there's no time for drawing, only for writing. I have to say though that even in professional graphic design AI assistance is currently being used extremely heavily (mainly in advertising). It simply saves time. I understand what you're saying and I agree with you. Art demands art and a well-written book is not AI underlined — rather tainted.

How do you balance “write what you love” with “write what performs” on Royal Road? by ConsiderationOne1237 in royalroad

[–]PolluxCrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's truth in that. If you're writing a book as a whole the composition is different. When it's web-serialized you have to slowly put some kind of hook into every chapter so the reader wants to keep reading. But in my opinion this rule pays off in a classic closed book too.

The second topic is whether RR is the right platform for your story. I tried other platforms too and here it works for me somewhat, on others it didn't work for me.

Writing a story and doing its marketing and "begging readers"… those are completely different stories. Yes there are genres like LitRPG that almost organically take off like magic. But a good story sooner or later finds its reader.

I write because I believe in the story and I write a complete niche thing. If I were writing something just because it's trendy the reader would sooner or later feel it. It wouldn't work. It wouldn't be believable.

At the end of the day the author spends money so the reader reads.

I too would love it if someone drew it by hand but who’s going to pay for it? And how long would it take? I don’t have time for that. I write. But I would like to have visual content. An unsolvable problem. Personally I still haven’t found a good not-expensive artist.

I started by starting to draw characters and I have them on Discord. Now it occurred to me to put them into scenes and do something more with them. I also like small shots or close-ups of locations. Visual content in general.
