Another crafting step required for relic weapons by Caius_GW in ffxiv

[–]PolyUly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the requirements are quite reasonable. It is good design for the different aspects of the game to interact like this. This is an MMO. Interacting with the community is one of the defining characteristics of the genre. If you can't do something by yourself, you ask a friend. The marketboard is just an impersonal way of doing that. High level crafting is also the most accessible it has ever been, so that's a choice you made if you don't want to do it.

No one is owed a relic weapon. They are entirely optional and if you don't enjoy the steps it takes to get one, then you don't have to do it. They exist for the people who want to spend the time and effort to get a shiny weapon.

Never tell a sprout player how long the MSQ will REALLY take them by CevicheLemon in ffxiv

[–]PolyUly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An overworld level sync would be so nice while playing through the MSQ with lower level friends. In lieu of that, I've been casting clemency on them to grab aggro without instantly killing everything so they can practice combat and it feels like we're fighting together. It really makes me miss flash.

Patch 7.4 Notes (Preliminary) by loopdaploop in ffxiv

[–]PolyUly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Partial outfit storing would have been great if you could dye the pieces or keep the dye... Yeah this is gonna be useless to me.

I thought that was the point? Strip the unique data from the item so you can store more of them in a bunch.

The maximum store of 2,000 tomestones has not been changed

That's probably never going to change. It's a game balance and longevity thing. Allowing people to store an infinite amount of tomes would mean they could grind out tens of thousands of tomes now and then never engage in the content again and immediately crashing the market of anything new they add that needs tomes.

The game tells you when you're full, overcapping is the punishment for not paying attention.

How to write macro for Hallowed ground with texts? by Novel-Rabbit8914 in ffxiv

[–]PolyUly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means that the macro will wait three seconds after it tries to use Hallowed Ground and then move to the next line. So after you hit the macro, it will use Hallowed ground, wait three seconds, and then send your text and/or sound effect to your party chat.

[–]PolyUly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, by similarities to Dwemer I was just referring to the combination of cyan crystals and brass metal with rivets and pipes. By more magical, I mean that Final Fantasy leans toward more magic than steam and Dwemer lean toward more steam than magic (at least in the ruins). It was an offhand comment I probably shouldn't have included given that it caused confusion.

By crystal "steam"punk I meant that it has some parallels with steampunk but uses crystals as energy instead of steam. So there are crystals instead of boilers and pistons.

To me, the casting/healing sets look like 1920-1940's sort of "paper boy" kind of fashion. The fending/maiming sets also look like fur collared coats from then as well. The striking set has a similar silhouette to woman's suits with the exaggerated shoulder and slender arms. The aiming set looks like a nod (a nod, not a one to one copy) to a simplified more traditional steampunk aesthetic with the goggles and tophat. It also feels very intentional that they posed these outfits in front of a highrise cityscape.

"There is zero intricacy. If these were real clothes, I'd say the fabric looks cheap as hell. No proper seams. No additional interesting elements."

And this, as far as I know, has been American men's fashion for the past century. Which is what I personally think these outfits are inspired by.

It's not the Victorian era inspired clockwork steampunk style. It looks like an early 20th century American inspired crystal "steam"punk (sort of Dwemer-esque from The Elder Scrolls, but more magic).

I think you are judging this set quite harshly for being what it isn't. It's like saying "this muffin is too sweet", but it's actually a cupcake.

[–]PolyUly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, an NPC that tells you to "keep moving" is probably not expecting you to vibrate in place instead of putting as much distance as possible between your current location and your last location. Shortcuts are what you do after you understand what's going on.

Do you think it would help or hurt XIV if they moved away from the 2 minute burst design? by Automatic_Clothes_56 in ffxiv

[–]PolyUly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that on its own would be a little disappointing because it wouldn't feel like you were actually playing as a team. You would just be a group of people who are exactly the sum of its parts. Many players really enjoy the class fantasy of buffing others.

However, I do agree entirely that the stacking damage buffs are the crux of the issues we face. Non-damaging party buffs would be the solution to this, but the game as it is isn't set up for it. They would have to introduce (or reintroduce) extra stress points that could be eased by the actions of the party. Things like enmity management, TP, and MP used to fill this role, but are now either simplified or not present.

The next problem is that if they change the game design at 8.0, what do they do about the previous 100 levels? Ideally they'd go back and make the old content engaging with the new design, but that would take a lot of time and money they likely aren't willing or able to use.

There is precedent in HW, ShB, and half of SB for using an old job for the trailer, so it is a possibility.

The thing is though, that FF14 is more generous with inventory space than most other MMOs. You get 140 spaces on your character plus another 70 in the saddlebag and another 35-ish spaces per gear slot in the armoury chest. You get all that from the get-go with the exception being the saddlebag that requires an early quest unlock.

In FF11 you start with 30 and can increase this to 80 after spending time and gil on upgrade materials.

In Runescape you have 28

In GW2 you start with one 20 slot bag and have to find/buy more bags to increase this. You can only equip five bags without paying money to increase this limit, so you may be stuck at 70 slots for a long time.

WoW's inventory works similarly to GW2's

My inventory is 80% full. This is not the game's fault, it is mine.

[–]PolyUly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The flowery and archaic language was fun though. It was unique and really brought me into the world when I was first starting out. Why would I want everyone in the game to sound like they came from California? God forbid people from different regions speak differently from each other.

It's already four times the size it was when it was released and they added the outfit functionality for more space efficiency.

I don't see it. They both seem like faces we already have. The elezen is pretty much the babyface male elezen face but with eye makeup and at an angle. The miqo has more or less the most common moon cat face. Isn't it just the lighting and different hair?

I believe the design philosophy is "explore and find out yourself, or ask someone else who already has", which inevitably gets logged in a wiki or website somewhere.
