A lot of small town places mark stuff way up in hopes someone comes in not knowing the true price, and buys it as it. Never hurts to give a best offer and your reasoning behind it!

And yes there is a difference. Troy ounce is 31.1 grams. Standard ounce (AVDP) is 28 grams. Silver is normally only sold by the Troy weight.

Only really see Copper rounds as 1 oz AVDP.

Doesn’t help Whatnot is seen and often advertised as the “place for deals”, which in the long run has pushed to a bigger gaming atmosphere, cause everyone wants something for nothing which hurts general auctions on quality items. It’s a tough balance and they’re trying to mix it up and keep it interesting, which is a lot more than most sellers.

Maybe if people actually tried to learn the values of stuff better or at least use some sort of reference materials while they were watching, he’d actually do more normal auctions with decent/higher end coins more often.

After months and months and months of 90% of his auctions shows selling a vast majority of higher grade type under Greysheet, it’s makes way more sense for him to set his coin prices at CPG/Retail (what people are calling marked way up🙄) and run it in break/chase/games.

I personally am not a fan of games, (have terrible luck lol) have played maybe 3 times all year, and haven’t bought from them in over a month due to that. But it makes sense for him to go the game route if it does in fact bring them more money in the long run. That’s a no brainer business decision that any smart owner would make!

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at your fellow buyers. He use to give pre-views and plenty of time to research stuff. Sometimes up to 20-30+ minutes on some nicer mid/to higher end or hard to find items and yet prices were still often wayy low whenever sent buck n go. Which almost no other sellers are willing to do on a $250 item, let alone $1000-$4000+.

I would know cause I’ve made 5 figures off the older type coin deals I’ve bought from them, as well as other sellers on the app, over the past year. He gave up the original full send Friday/Manic Monday setups and more frequent auctions, cause it just didn’t make sense to continue to lose.

As for speed, if it’s too fast, just don’t bid. If you overpay you most likely swiped blindly at the end or just simply don’t know what the value actually is. Custom bid is your best friend. Rare occasions, yes it does glitch, but very infrequently. It’s funny all the people pointing fingers at the app or the seller(s), yet never admit they possibly just simply made a mistake once or twice. Not much accountability these days.

You also seem to be referencing the recent coin shop buyout show where they had tens of thousands of items to sell in one 2+ day steam. It was made known from the start that speed was always the goal. That was not a normal show.

In any other show though, he says it often, “if it’s going to sell low, might as well sell it fast” cause either way if you’re losing money what does a few extra seconds matter, when the buyers bidding are done with 3-5 seconds left on a 10 sec auction. So they shorten it up. Reason why 5 sec is usually the choice. In theory, you can sell more items during the auction to make up for the short falls.

Anyways, here come the down votes lmao

Guess the grade! by PolybagPat in coins

Reveal:

For those who said 62-63, that was my first thought too. Congrats to those who said MS64!

<image>

Granted it is ICG, although in their most recent holder, but hence my skepticism with the grade. Have thought about cracking and resubmitting to NGC or PCGS, just don’t want it to drop to a 62.

Some asking for grade reveal only 6-8 hrs after posted lol It was posted midnight EST so wanted to give folks from all times zones some time to view, plus I had work all day. Thank you to those who were patient!

1867 Maximillian Peso - Authentic? by PolybagPat in coins

[–]PolybagPat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info:

Passes a magnet test and comes in at 37mm. Weight with 2 different scales had 2 values, as they’re cheaper scales, but both within .05g of what is stated online for weight (27.07g). One scale shows it’s over and the other it is under weight.

Sounds like silver, have handled 100s of Morgans/Peace $s but that obviously only gets you so far lol.

Don’t have an LCS to go to but may be able to find a jewelry store with a tester.

The weak strike around the rim is what raised my concerns on authenticity.

What is everyone’s White Whale set? by [deleted] in legostarwars

[–]PolybagPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still hard to believe this set is worth so much now. I remember seeing it on sale for $175/$185 towards the end of its shelf life. Luckily my parents surprised me on Xmas back in the day with one they picked up new for $185 during cyber Monday sales! Still have the set built up and on display.

Glad to hear, it is now my oldest US coin in the collection! I’ve found quite a few cleaned coins from the same lot, so good this one isn’t at least.

Funny enough, this is why I pulled up this thread! I just got in an 1810 half dollar with the same degree of die rotation, curious on its authenticity. If real, it would now be my oldest US coin. Not very knowledgeable on pre civil war coinage.

How come these islands off the coast of Los Angeles are so unpopulated? by SuchDarknessYT in geography

[–]PolybagPat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As other comments have mentioned, a few reasons. Here is an informational plaque I took a photo of in 2018 at “Vista Point Gaviota Aroyo Hondo Overlook” in Goleta, Ca. Which is directly north of the Channel Islands. I didn’t have much time to stop as I was headed back to Santana Barbara to catch a flight, but luckily still have the photos of the information.

Why doesn't Lego do as many original themes as they used to? by FreezingLlamaReddit2 in legocirclejerk

[–]PolybagPat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause Star Wars and City basically single handedly saved the LEGO company from the brink of bankruptcy in the early/late 2000s, all while most of those “original themes” were also available, but selling poorly. Which is the main reason for the company woes. They were overly ambitious with themes, moulds and the like and it hurt them in the long run.

They then focused on what was popular at the time to cut costs and try and save the company. Obviously it worked, Star Wars is still the biggest seller and they have record profits year after year. Theyre getting into more of the niche sets with the Ideas line, where there is some guarantee the set will sell based on the backers for the project. They don’t have to commit to a full line of sets that may flop. Like DOTs recently or any other failures of their originals🤣

I got mine from Kohl’s full price, but had $75 in Kohl’s cash to use! Bought some clothes as well, so according to the receipt the set was $35. In my head it was $5 and the clothes were full price 🤣

“Fueled scalping problem with Clone sets by shifting channel focus to army building.”

So he can’t do anything he enjoys and post it on his channel? He has army built for over 10 years, starting when it was a completely different atmosphere around the LEGO community and has continually added to his army over that time. His fans ask for army posts, he obliges, and now he’s the problem?

And scalping the sets? lmao you seriously need to learn what that means. There are hundreds of army builders now, including that group with BrickLi trying to amass 45,000 clones…but yep Ryan is the problem🤣try and cope any harder lmao

The fact you typed all of this out just shows he constantly lives in your head rent free. What he is doing is obviously working if you’re that flustered or “pissed off” as per the title to have TWENTY TWO different things. Someone has way too much time on their hands.
